so telling to me how some of you would rather completely write off appalachian and southern states than extend compassion and solidarity to the poc and queer people who live here and lead lives just as valuable as anyone’s in a blue state. living under a nearly constant suppressive government is an uphill battle that i and those i am in solidarity with choose to fight every day and the results of the an election we showed up for despite the overwhelming odds do not mean we as a whole deserve to be discarded
“jesse pinkman takes a girl by the hand and leads her to his bedroom but instead of having sex they just play Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing” sounds like a tumblr meme made by someone who never saw breaking bad. but he really did that
As a 30 year old man who escaped the Alt-right pipeline, you’re not going to be happy about the answer.
All I hear from leftists is how much they hate me for my immutable traits, how much they blame me for everything wrong with the world, how much they want me and everyone who looks like me dead.
Whereas Alt-right types would call me “brother” and welcome me into their ranks so long as I hated the right ways.
Do you understand the difference?
I’m an ally and support equality because I feel it’s the morally correct choice to make, but holy fuck is it difficult to reconcile that with the fact that means fighting for a lot of people who see you as the scum of the earth.
Read this and then read it again and then read some fucking bell hooks because this is a legitimate problem on the left.
“To create loving men, we must love males. Loving maleness is different from praising and rewarding males for living up to sexist-defined notions of male identity. Caring about men because of what they do for us is not the same as loving males for simply being.” - bell hooks, The Will to Change https://bellhooksbooks.com/product/the-will-to-change/
I know most of tumblr is thinking about the USA right now. but fuck the nz government right now too. tomorrow, the treaty principles bill, the ‘worst, most comprehensive breach of Te Tiriti in modern times’ is being introduced to parliament early, because there were activations planned country wide and the cowards decided to pull it forwards. fuck this government. a friend of mine had to go home early, crying. I’ve been in shock all day since it came out.
check on your Māori friends, e hoa mā. see what they need. see how you can help. everyday, we see and experience racism. from people around us, up to our government. community care will save us.
My contempt towards a brand is directly proportional to how often they interrupt my playlists.
My late father was the one who taught me to be cynical about advertising, for all that putting up ads was literally his whole job. He taught me from a very young age that advertising is expensive, and they tack that cost onto the price. That if something is heavily advertised, you can count on the fact that there’s an identical product out there, usually even manufactured in the same factory, that’s cheaper because they don’t spend all that money on advertising.
A German friend walked me through Lidl, turning over items to show the factories where the items were manufactured and what expensive brands they correspond to, we did taste tests on some of the more pricey food things later and they were the same product. learning about food manufacturing was a hobby for her.
European glasses and sunglasses are made in the same Italian factories that make the luxury ones, they have the same quality control and warranty. You are paying €100 for a logo.
Some things cost more because they are actually made with better quality materials and where the workers are properly compensated, others are the same product as the off brand version with the brand name markup. It takes a lifetime to learn the intricacies which is why consumer advocacy associations and legal protection by (truly) independent agencies is crucial.
Just so like… it’s clear… anyone who censors words that contain “man” or “men” to anything like “xxn” that’s TERF shit.
Any reference to women/womanhood that solely revolves around having a uterus or “womb” is TERF shit.
Any sentence where the OP says they support people being “trans identified” with quotes around “"transwomen”“ or ”“transmen”“ is TERF shit.
I’m seeing a lot of you baby Tumblr gays out there not knowing what these specific TERF dogwhistles look like.
"Wombxxn” is an incredibly dumb way of spelling “woman” that treats the word “man” like a slur and also reduces women to their ability to give birth.
“Trans identified” is their way of saying “this person calls themselves trans, but I don’t believe they are.”
Saying “People should be allowed to identify however they wish, but we still need to protect women/children” IS TERF SHIT.
Learn to identify this garbage, because not all TERFs are going to spell out their intolerance for you. Some of them are going to try and seem reasonable and polite and normal, and it’s fucking dangerous to our community.
Also unpack any internalized transphobia and your transmedicalism, because both those things will have you quickly siding with TERFs and bigots.
The fact that you can’t raise taxes on billionaires even slightly without them pouring money into fascist political movements is, of itself, evidence that billionaires as a class shouldn’t be allowed to exist in the first place.
I’d just like to point out that every single thing that has happened in the 6 years since I created this post has only reinscribed its absolute moral correctness in my mind.
NY just passed Prop 1, a constitutional amendment which will enshrine protections against sex/gender-based discrimination in the state. This includes the right to abortion and protections for trans, gay, and gender non-conforming people. Whatever else happens in this election, this is a big win!
Pigeons are one of the oldest domestic animals and basically the only domestic animal that has been all but completely abandoned by humans.
They were domesticated for food but not just for meat. Their poop is extremely rich fertilizer which was a big deal in the middle east and northern Africa in ancient times. They have an amazing sense of direction and can find their home from hundreds of thousands of miles away. In WW1 and 2 they were used to deliver messages from the front to base camps and were responsible for saving THOUSANDS of lives when soldiers were pinned down and unable to send a runner (human messenger).
They were brought to the US by European settlers as messenger birds. Some were kept as racing birds and eventually many different breeds were developed. Some more humane than others (looking at you American Fantail). Eventually, as infrastructure was developed in the new world, many of the birds were just abandoned as they were no longer of use. Being hardy little things, pigeons were able to eek out a living in the early colonial cities and eventually spread from coast to coast of North America.
Today, despite being a domestic animal, feral pigeons are treated as wild nuisance animals instead of the escaped pets they should be seen as. A feral kitten is still considered a “pet” even if it is 3rd generation feral after all, so why not these birds?
As they are, technically, a domestic animal, it IS legal to just… yoink one off the street. I DO NOT SUGGEST DOING THIS RANDOMLY. You’re more likely to cause them to panic and cause them harm. If you do manage to get one without outright stress killing it, you have to consider vet care. Most vets dont treat pigeons because they see them as exotic animals. There are a myriad of other reasons NOT to go yoinking feral birds sooooo probably dont do it unless you are working with a rescue. Not to mention in many parts of the US there is an actual wild bird that looks similar to pigeons called a Morning Dove. They are NOT the same bird and should be left alone.
However, due to wonderful people the world over (*cough @homeofhousechickens cough*), the stigma against pigeons is being lifted. Finding good breeders and rescues is becoming much easier and more and more vets are open to working with them. Of course always do your research before getting a new pet, tho!
If you’ve ever been do the pet store and think “I’d like a <-insert common parrot here->” please please PLEASE consider a pigeon instead. They are super intelligent. They can be pet without causing them sexual stress (ya. thats a thing with parrots). They are easier to care for due to their long history of human companionship. And they come in just as many bright and beautiful colors, patterns, and body types as parrots.
Pigeons are wonderful animals. Despite being domesticated, abandoned, and mistreated for generations they are still drawn to humans and their companionship. They deserve so much better from us and, hopefully with more and more education, they will soon get it.

Since the silly transphobic polls are happening atm and just asked if men can get pregnant, here’s a local story I really love to remind you that yes, men do give birth, and they deserve the best of care. It’s happening no matter what a few loud twitter transphobes are saying, we are out there thriving and creating wonderful families. A vast majority of the responses were extremely positive too <3
2 dudes, chillin in open graves, 5 feet apart cause they’re not gay
This is actually an art piece by Miller & Shellabarger where they dug graves connected by a tunnel so they could hold hands. They are very much gay and irl married

Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.
Okay. Okay. I’m still not over this, but I’m starting to piece it together in my head.
This is NOT an accurate telling of the history of corn mazes. This is just a hypothesis.
So. What do we need for a corn maze? Well, we need cornfields, and we need the concept of a vegetation maze.
Hedge mazes are a European concept, first created in the mid 16th century.
And while indigenous Americans obviously had corn, they typically grew it alongside other plants and not in vast monocultures.
And so corn mazes can only exist after the widespread adoption of maize by Europeans AND the existence of hedge mazes.
But during this time, is a corn maze a good idea?
A corn maze isn’t something you make on a whim. It’s something that has to planned well in advance— and not only that, but with every path you draw, you’re losing some of your crop! And if you’re a farmer, that’s your entire livelihood! While the wealthy elite can afford to splurge on a purely decorative plant to make a maze from, you certainly can’t do the same with your product.
So a field with a maze needs to somehow bring in more money than a field without a maze to be worth considering. How does that happen?
Agritourism.
Agritourism only works as a concept when most of the population doesn’t already live on a farm. There’s no reason to draw people to your farm in colonial America, where 90% of everyone there sees a farm every day.
So this rules out any year before 1900 on principle alone.
Not only that, but to earn any actual revenue, you need a lot of middle and even lower-class people from cities and towns actually coming to your farm specifically. This isn’t feasible without the widespread adoption of the automobile.
And so corn mazes can only exist after 1920.
But why would anyone in 1920 focus on agritourism? The added costs of labor, advertising, and crop loss would far outweigh any revenue gained. The vast majority of family farmers were doing fine without it!
Until they weren’t.
As farming became more consolidated by massive corporations, family farms were suddenly seeing less and less money. All of a sudden, agritourism became a viable option. If you aren’t making that much money off of your crops in the first place, then it doesn’t matter too much if you hack them up a bit.
And when do we see a significant dip in the profits of family farms?
(from the USDA)
A large dip in 1975, and a nearly vertical slope around 1989.
Now the idea of a corn maze is a feasible one. Especially when the pressure to create new, novel experiences in your farm starts really packing on near the turn of the decade.
Corn mazes can only exist after 1989.
corn mazes are possibly a direct result of unchecked corporate oligopolies

having mutuals who i think are really cool and get like. starstruck when they interact with me. is so weird. like why am i reacting like this. we’re literally both on tumblr
i’m like a baby clown sitting in a circus honking my little nose and then sometimes a REALLY COOL CLOWN who has inspired me in my own clownery and who i bother regularly in hopes of friendship sits down and claps as i honk my stupid little clown nose. but the thing is that we’re still both clowns in the same circus
THE COOL CLOWNS (INCLUDING THE CLOWNS IM NOT EVEN MUTUALS WITH I JUST FOLLOW FROM A DISTANCE) FOUND THIS POST. THEY DONT KNOWWWW
^ i know this it’s just scarier to me than all my cool clowns combined. what do you MEAN ppl think im scary or intimidating or cool. im literally just a clown in the circus
there is a very real tendency of teenagers with anxiety disorders self diagnosing with considerably more stigmatized and impairing mental illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia, DID, personality disorders), but the best response to that isn’t to get angry with them for “appropriating” lol. instead you show them coping resources for the problems they’re actually having and deemphasize diagnostic categories in general. if an 18 year old is claiming to have alzheimer’s, they’re probably making an innocent mistake and are in genuine distress. be kind.
Also I think this trend comes, at least in part, from how brushed aside anxiety disorders can be. If your parents and teachers dismiss you with ‘oh everyone feels anxious’, then inevitably you’re going to start thinking that there must be something else going on with you
”You must feel very scared right now; let’s talk about how to help you personally, tailored to your symptoms” will always be more helpful than “stop faking (X) for attention”. If theyre that desperate for attention or an explanation, something is wrong.
I mean like. The abrupt, tragic loss of one’s individual identity, memory, and morality, replaced only by hunger, is kind of like. The principal thing about zombies. In my opinion
black and brown bloggers will describe a racist phenomenon in a slightly jesting way and white people will very openly flock to the notes proudly saying “i do that!!! xD”. No shame at all. Appalling, really
It’s really a white pathology thing isn’t it? White people don’t get checked on their racism, but when they do, they see it as a personal attack. The lack of self awareness.
dont make me tap the charlotte zhang
hihi white people im gonna be the fucking Angry Brown Girl about it because i dont have the energy to be nice:
stop fucking asking people of colour to tell you when you are being racist. Because, chances are, they wont, because they feel unsafe or because they already deal with so much shit and dont have the energy to educate you on top of that. Libraries are free, Libby is free, if you’re a white person reading this post on tumblr dot com using the internet then googling “how to be anti-racist” is FREE. If you care and you want to do better then you need to fucking put in the work. Im not going to do it all for you. There are books, podcasts, videos, zines, comics, every type of media you can think of about anti-racism. You only need to seek it out.
(also this goes for every other form of marginalization too. Don’t expect oppressed people to patiently lay out every little microaggression and perpetuation of that oppression for you because we live with that every day. I live in my disabled body every day. I live in my queer and trans and neurodivergent bodymind every day. I experience this shit every day. I claw at the dirt every day just to live here, I don’t have the time, energy, or patience to be your tour guide.)
Walking around the apartment going “butter dog… he’s the one with the butter” in my best anime dub boy protagonist voice until my roommate kills me oppa gruesome style
remember to have an “oppa gruesome style” halloween, everyone
I’m just saying, if there’s a curse that runs along your family line and you don’t tell your kids about it, how the hell are they supposed to go on a quest to stop it?
I love when you see someone reblogging a text post multiple times because you don’t know if tumblr glitched on their end or if the post, “who else up garging they goyle” really fucking resonated with them and they just had to rb that mf 4x
