It’s easy to think “nobody in the whole wide world cares about me” on an empty stomach but try doing it while eating Vegetables and Rice. Seems less convincing now doesn’t it? That’s simply the power of Vegetables and Rice..
Is the AI they’re using to decode ancient extinct languages and bird/whale singing the same kind of AI as like ChatGPT? Could it be having “hallucinations” just like ChatGPT does? How do we know its decodings are right?
wait what
idk, I heard some podcast where they said they deciphered these ancient stone carvings from the Indus River Valley civilization, using LLMs or something.
And similarly, aren’t there all these papers coming out saying like “we listened to and analyzed a ton of birdsong and whale calls, they’re definitely using some kind of language”?
They have not deciphered ancient stone carvings from the Indus River Valley civilization.
There is no way to do any of that stuff with LLMs though???

these are a mandatory part of every windows install for me. been using them for years and it’s such a lifesaver
Because this has mostly been talked about with Windows 11, heads-up that this installed itself on every Windows 10 computer in our house with this week’s update.
“let’s not be ableist!”, “every mental illness should be respected” and “using slurs, especially ones that based on illnesses is wrong!” people after they call every abusive and evil person they met “narcissist”, “psychopath” and “sociopath”:😂👍
sorry to bring politics into this, but ‘leftist’ online spaces repeatedly calling rightwingers 'sociopaths’ because apparently us cluster B havers don’t exist in leftist spaces now

it’s so funny to me when i see pearl-clutching articles about how “teenagers are diagnosing themselves with mental disorders via tiktok” because like. this is not happening in a vacuum. teenagers are severely and i mean severely medically neglected. i cannot stress this enough. teenagers do not have free access to medical care. those same news outlets would be clowning on women with housewife psychosis in the 1950’s.
i sometimes go pale when listening to some of what my friends have gone through in their childhoods and teenagehoods. they talk about it so nonchalantly, things that would be considered straight up torture if done to an adult, can’t fathom the effect this has on children. they are on multiple anti-psychotics and several antidepressants and anxiety meds now that they are adults. medical neglect has legally and effectively disabled them. a timely diagnosis and intervention could have saved them.
of course teenagers are self-diagnosing using tiktok. if your knee-jerk reaction is to scoff at the idea and dismiss it as dumb teenager shit instead of being radicalized because the best shot young people have at attaining the mental health support they need is a fucking dancing videos app, you’re categorically a political enemy of the youth.
The Prism Knights softcover anthology by @windywallflower is in its final day of funding! If you like queer fantasy prose, please check it out! It’s so good!
This is the design for the cover I drew for the past edition.
why r the beloved “morally gray” male characters of fandoms always like this is baby killer john he loves killing babies for fun and the fandom is like omg baby killer johnnn 😍😍😍 but a morally gray female character is like heres a traumatized teen girl thats meant to be deeply flawed and wrong at times but also went thru a lot and is meant to be sympathetic and nuanced and the fandom is like SHE NEEDS TO DIE RIGHT NOWWWW !!!!!!!!

i listen to this podcast by two priests who talk about what life as a priest is like because I find their stories interesting, and one of the best moments was when the younger priest, baby priest we shall call him, absolutely lost it on the podcast because he had been preaching, then he saw someone do a full body sigh, shoulders up and down, then look at their watch, and then shoot baby priest a dirty look. Because priests are human too, this priest found it irritating on a human level, which, okay, I can see that–and then, he spent several minutes vehemently (and jokingly, but also, vehemently) proposing that Catholicism should update its rules so if anyone does that, the priest is allowed to come down from the altar and challenge the person to hand-to-hand combat. He argued that more people would come back to church if there was a chance of seeing the priest getting in a fistfight and in fact they might go to church multiple times a day. He stubbornly refused to allow exemptions for little old ladies. he was fully and passionately committed to the idea of Catholicism allowing priests to fistfight parishioners in the middle of mass, and I’m going to say it: i think he was right
god that adhd struggle where you are so motivated to do something but there is just like. A Blockage In Your Body that stops the motivation from turning into anything. so you just like. vibrate. sitting there like yeah, man, i totally want to do that right now. (doesn’t)
i posted this image on twitter like actual ages ago but it just keeps getting more relevant
Things are getting pretty bad in Gaza, and very dangerous to keep living there. Furthermore, winter is fast approaching, which means more cold weather which will be difficult to withstand in already harsh conditions, and especially for families with young babies like this one.
Help this family regain hope by donating even a little, or even a reblog can go a long way!
I have 2 cats, and one of them loves to watch over me whenever I’m cleaning or working on something (Clean their litter, do homework, sweep/mop, ect)
She does this so often that I call her “My little helper” as she watches over me, making sure that I’m doing whatever I’m doing correctly
Today, while I’m cleaning the litter box, I looked behind me, expecting her, and she wasn’t there. So out of habit, I asked out loud, “Where’s my little helper?”
Next thing I know, she’s meowing and right next to me.
ok but jokes aside “sugar free” and “diet” versions of products are not automatically better for you and your body does not appreciate artificial sweeteners, which is why consuming too much upsets your bowels. your body is essentially saying “wtf is this, I can’t do anything with it! i’ll have to just get rid of it I guess.” consuming sugar in healthy moderation is ideal as opposed to these products
jealous of everyone saying artificial sweeteners taste bad to them anyway because I actually like the taste LMFAO
No, I don’t know a single thing about a single celebrity. But this fictional man? this extremely sad, traumatized man? Why yes, I hold an encyclopedic amount of knowledge of him in my silly brain. Why do you ask?
Hey! That’s me! Wow! Well… I guess that means I’m legal for competitive play now.
Uh oh.
Alright, fine. I can’t keep running away from it, people want Webdexter to review themselves. I said that I would try and refrain because I’d be biased, but I’ll try my best anyhow.
Anyways, this Little Guy is super handsome and cool and everyone loves them. Just Kidding! In all seriousness, I doubt the rush of people wanting to try me out on their teams will last that much longer, but I can’t be sure.
People have, so far, tried many avenues to making use of me: using my reviews skill to perform a specific function in a larger strategy, or making use of me just for my base scores as a bare minimum for max engaging and media literacy in a media lit team, but my favorite has to being used as a team organizer!
Making use of my game knowledge by putting me in a position to manage which of the guy you’ve wrangled so far do what is a pretty decent use, if I do say so myself! The few matches where I got to try were the most fun I’ve had in a while, and I won two of the three. If you do have me join a match for you, consider that strategy!
Still no letter grade for myself, though. Know that I’m an S in my heart, though.

Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Capitalists love making it seem like capitalism is eternal, “human nature” and an extremely broad concept as if it’s some kind of force of nature and not a very specific set of economic policies that allow labor to be a commodity in all industries everywhere
It gives credibility to their power, like the kings who claimed god appointed them.
