Funny how all these voting machine “glitches” always benefit republicans….

Isn’t this literally a joke in an episode of the Simpsons

Hey! I’m an election worker! If you ever have an issue like this please tell the people who are working at the polls! I don’t know about other states, as ours got new machines two years ago and we have some of the newest polling machines in the country, but I’m sure that your local polling place will do something about a machine like this.

If you don’t trust the machines to allow you to vote for who you want, you ALWAYS have the right to ask for a paper ballot. If they refuse, get that shit on video and blast them on social media. Election offices HATE having people complain about them on social media. Be sure to specifically get them denying you a paper ballot. PAPER BALLOTS ARE NOT INVALID BALLOTS AND WILL BE COUNTED.

Know your rights, be nice to election workers, be sure to register to vote, and actually get out there and vote!

(Also, if you are willing and able, you should sign up to be an election worker. In the US there is a serious problem with most election workers being Republicans. Most election offices try to have a balance between Democrats, Republicans and Independent, but that’s kind of hard when Republicans are the only ones who sign up. It pays pretty well, and its wayyyy less difficult than most retail jobs. You also can learn so much.)

Damn, gutsy move. I’ll play Spike in Defense position.

OK, @wikipedia-the-official, your move.

What the fuck is happening here /lh

You played Bowl of Cereal

@mun-urufu attacked with Bowl of Milk. You countered with Jail (a bit early to pull that but good move still). mun-urufu negated with a Get Out Of Jail Free which ends the turn.

@foxxys-huzband was next and dropped the fiery Yoink. I mean, it’s obvious they’re going for the Four-Fingered Ben and Jerry combo. A bit old school but tested and true.

Which means I have to put up a block before I can roll. Spike in Defense will give me enough time to stall foxxys-huzband since he get a bonus against demons. (This is Angel Spike, not Buffy Spike which was banned in the Donkey Special Tournament rules.)

So now it’s your turn. You can take the enchanted sword, the thicc bookk, or roll to see how far you get through Molasses Swamp.

It’s very simple.

Twitter is about to be banned in Brazil, why?

Have you seen the news about Twitter (now X, but I refuse to call it that) being banned in Brazil? Have you been wondering why that is? I’m Brazilian, and here I am to explain things to you.

You’ve likely noticed that since Elon Musk took over the social media network, hate speech on the platform has skyrocketed. White supremacist and Neo-Nazi groups have been using Twitter to disseminate racist propaganda and hate speech. And although the United States might not be doing anything about this, other countries are not so indulgent. Brazil being one of them.

Racism and incitement of hate (including speech) are crimes in Brazil. So is political disinformation, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. Hate speech of any kind is a CRIME in Brazil.

The Brazilian Supreme Court ordered Elon Musk to do something about the political fake news and hate speech on his platform, and Elon responded by shutting down all offices in Brazil.

The Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) then ordered Elon Musk to appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as NO BUSINESS can operate in the country without a legal representative that can be held responsible to crimes and answer to them in a court of law. The STF gave Elon 24 hours to appoint this legal representative, and now that the deadline has passed and Elon has not complied, it seems that Twitter will be shut down in Brazil.

TL;DR: Elon is salty that he’s not above Brazilian law.

In my opinion, the funniest thing to emerge from this is that Elon used the X Global Government Affairs account to say that Brazilian minister Alexandre de Moraes gave him these orders in “secret”. And no one else other than the OFFICIAL BRAZILIAN SUPREME COURT ACCOUNT responded to this with the ACTUAL FULL LEGAL DOCUMENT LMAOOOOOOO

no but genuinely the trivialization of anxiety disorders is horrific im not gonna write a whole post i’ve done so much writing today but

like. man i get paranoia so bad i can’t eat. i can’t have conversations with strangers i perceive as authority figures half the time because i physically can’t speak at an audible volume. it has a serious negative impact on my day to day life. but anxiety disorders are always viewed as like… “mild” mental illnesses. people don’t talk about the fact that anxiety can be legitimately disabling and idk it’s not as stigmatized as some things but it really isn’t taken seriously and that results in a similar lack of support

seeing a couple ppl in the notes call anxiety one of the “most debilitating” mental illnesses which isn’t really a great thing to be saying. mental illnesses all have different symptoms and cause different struggles and can’t really be measured against each other 1:1 like that. this post wasn’t intended to start trauma olympics and i don’t like the idea that people with any one illness or disability inherently have it worse than people with other illnesses or disabilities. peace and love 👍

People recreationally lying on tumblr is like a misinformation vaccine.

You’re exposed to false information that’s presented as if it’s true, but which has been rendered harmless by being something absurd and utterly ridiculous, and even if you do catch something from it, the response is getting ridiculed on the internet instead of getting sucked into a cult. So the next time you encounter something that sounds absolutely mindblowing, some part of your mind remembers to check the sources, because you’re not going to repeat the purple-eyes-no-periods mistake again.

Completely untrue, the only reason people lie on tumblr is from absolute malice, and the misinformation here is always fatal. Goncharov alone killed 860 trillion tumblr users. Per hour!

Okay but guys have you heard of the Pacific southwest tree octopus? The Pacific Northwest tree octopus was a hoax actually based on the Pacific Southwest tree octopus. As one may know, the redwoods and extremely tall trees have soil up on the top of the canopy. Bits of this soil have become mineralized to the point of impermeability to water. Basically this means there are bowls of soil that don’t let water leak out. This creates a habitat in which freshwater octopus can survive. And they do. Not particularly well though. Here’s a YouTube link to a documentary about it:

Reminder to just say masturbation, sex, vagina, penis, menstruation, fuck, death, kill, boobs, dyke, faggot, etc. like a real adult.

reminder to everyone who doesnt use tiktok: you dont actually get banned for saying these words, people do this to evade others’ tag blockers.

a lot of users DONT want to see this kind of post, so people censor and change words around to get put on peoples “for you” page even if they have been marked as “not interested”. this is part of why it can get really difficult to find posts you actually like on tiktok, is because the algorithm is really bad at guessing that these posts are not actually about “self care”. the creators of these posts are hoping they get forced in front of people who want to see something else.

Oh that’s way worse than what I’d been led to believe was happening

This is actively not true, you might not get banned banned but you definitely will get shadow banned (and sometimes banned banned in the case of slurs) you can block tags but it only works for the actual tag not for the words used in the video or it’s description.

Almost every public and private sector powerhouse in the world intends to wipe out the Palestinian people and Palestine and they’re more than content in lending a hand in it.

Alligator guy on YouTube says alligators have no capacity to feel affection and thus feel nothing for him. Alligator guy on YouTube (in a separate video) notes that some of the alligators he works with do a distinctive “baby call” to him when they want food, which adult alligators don’t do in the wild but baby alligators do to call their mother. I don’t know what the parent-child bond feels like phenomenologically for alligators but I have to imagine these alligators feel it for this guy in these instances. And I have to imagine it probably doesn’t feel nothing like affection, because, you know, evolution likes to repurpose things and doesn’t like to reinvent the wheel. Although maybe that’s not a good justification, if there’s no comparable ancestral tetrapod emotion. What do we know about the ancestral tetrapod, anyway?

our best analysis suggests it experienced nothing but an omnibenevolent love for all creation, with absolutely no other qualia

#I’m sorry Animorphs had a WHAT#A WAR?#I never got to read it but I always thought it was a fun and lighthearted story or something#I need to read it

It’s um

I hate to be the one to break this to you but Animorphs is in fact a war story. The story does not exist without the war. It is specifically a story abut child soldiers being enlisted to fight bodysnatching brain slugs, meaning that almost every time the kids kill a ‘nasty invading alien’ they are also killing an innocent slave. Concepts of the morality of child soldiers, offense vs. defense, what counts as acceptable losses/acceptable collateral damage and whether it’s acceptable to slaughter enemies while they’re helpless, things like chemical warfare and the rights and protections that should be offered to displaced war refugees, as well as war not having ‘good guys’ and ‘bad guys’ and most actors being victims of their circumstances and societies, are heavily explored. (As well as trauma – these kids have SO MUCH PTSD. The first suicide attempt takes place in book 3 and things don’t really improve, especially after the torture book.)

I once did a quick tally and found that of all the “main” species in the book (humans plus any alien species that appears in three or more books), only three species do not explicitly attempt on-page genocide in the series. They’re the three species who we are introduced to in the first book as the antagonists.

I’ve done this rant before but animorphs radicalized me farther than anything else. I remember setting the last book down at the age of maybe 12 or 13, the book ending with a member of the main cast dead, warcrimes committed in the name of freedom, every character covered in scars both physical and mental, and I thought to myself “I don’t want to join the army anymore” Those books hit their target audience in me and they changed me forever. If not for them, I probably would have joined the army at 18 and royally fucked up my life

This Biology Teacher Disproved Transphobia With Science

ALSO:

Sex redefined

“The idea of two sexes is simplistic. Biologists now think there is a wider spectrum than that.”

More on anti-trans arguments as bad science

As a biologist I am reblogging this so hard.

Biological sex is not and has never been a binary. The complexity of the natural world cannot be contained in neat little societal boxes. Stop using science to justify your bigotry.

I can’t think of any part of science I’ve ever studied that has ever concluded in any sort of binary

The answer, whether it’s sex, gender, types of fish, whether fish exist or not, or whether you yourself are a fish, is and always has been “it depends”

That’s science. Diving into the nitty gritty of what it depends ON? That would likely be how you find yourself holding a science degree 🤣

it would be super cool if someone had mentioned intersex people in this post talking about some of the different intersex conditions that exist(all non standard chromosome combinations are considered intersex)

fun fact btw.

There have actually been examples of humans self fertilising

So it is genuinely possible even in practice for humans to both be male and female.

I really wish more intersex people knew this as well, because even we are taught to fall heads over heels to go “but we can’t actually be both at once, we’re still only really one or the other”

Obviously not blaming any intersex people for this, I was very much like that before I learned about this. But I think it would be good if we didn’t have to self flaggelate every time we talk about our biology to appease a perisex society

There have actually

been examples of humans

self fertilising

It’s really baffling how platforms like TikTok and even YouTube have so successfully gotten their users to self-censor to a degree even the moral pearl-clutchers in the 1950s couldn’t have imagined enforcing from above.
