Everything about the USA will make you feel as if your whole ability to reason and think coherently has just flown away.
I’m thinking right now about a radio advertisement I overheard for Indeed - a theoretical jod search website. The advertisement, however, was directed at companies who were searching for employees. Presumably these companies pay Indeed to serve as a hub for their job postings and applicants. So Indeed wants people signed up, because more accounts shows more potential applicants and they can get more money from companies looking for employees. There’s no money in actually connecting applicants to positions, so you sign up, make the account, discover you signed up for a portal that just sends you to other company’s jobs pages with the same info and spams you with jobs you don’t want, and you leave forever. Money in the bank.
Meanwhile on the hiring side, job postings make a business look good. If you always got job postings, you’re growing. But keeping fresh postings in rotation is time consuming, especially when you’re lean staffed on purpose with investors who demand you show an infinitely growing rate of improvement. So you pay Indeed a monthly fee to upload a bunch of jobs you aren’t hiring for and use that to hook more investors to pay the first group.
And you end up with a company that gets paid to do nothing but generate fake data by other companies paying them to do nothing but post fake information, and the only part we (the ones looking for income to survive) play in this transaction is lending the process just enough legitimacy to make it legal. Money that doesn’t exist cycles around between people doing nothing and as long as none of us can afford groceries or a home, the economy is considered “doing well,” but the second one investor caves and demands to be paid, the economy collapses and suddenly 99% of the population in the USA can afford to eat again.
All you have to do is multiply that by a thousand companies doing it a thousand times a month and that’s the USA baby, except also we supply billions of dollars of weapons killing people around the world.
Part of why this makes my brain turn into a pile of whimsical dinosaur socks is you can say all this to almost any economist in the USA and they’ll agree with all of it except that part where 99% of the population has no money is good and when the bubble collapses and 5 trillion dollars in made up money vanishes, forcing three people to skip a single weekly trip to the top of Mount Everest, while the entire globe gets to put $100 away in savings that year it’s bad because of growth.

“Bees don’t consent to their honey being taken” wrong, bees are actually more than intelligent enough to know we take the honey. They LET us take the honey if they think what we provide in return (shelter, food, protection) is a fair deal.
“Taking honey starves the bees” WRONG AGAIN! Domestic bees overproduce honey. A beekeeper NEVER takes honey the bees would need because then you piss off the bees, and if you piss off the bees you don’t have any bees. They stockpile honey for the winter, but because domestic colonies do way better than wild ones they stockpile too much. That’s why beekeepers can take out whole frames and then have them filled in no time. Domestic bees actively overproduce because they know humans are going to skim some off the top.
And if they didn’t want humans to take it, beekeeping WOULD NOT work.
To keep bees you have to let them fly free. If they can fly free they can leave. Meaning if they don’t like what you’re doing, they WILL leave.
The whole idea they’re basically slaves to the queen is also not true, they can just make a new queen literally whenever, and if they don’t like her, they kill her.
There is no way for a beekeeper to exploit their bees. The bees are EMPLOYEES.
Based on a conversation some of my friends had about Dipper and Mabel becoming warriors kids- I can’t take credit for the idea or dialogue, but it WAS fun bringing it to life.
august was a terrible, terrible month. i got sexually assaulted twice, robbed, beaten up and my connection to the power grid burned down at least once a week the whole month. thanks to ny'all i got through it, but by the time it ended i found out that i got kicked out of my jobs and i no longer qualified for disability assistance. now while i’m trying to recover from the last assault i realize that on top of not being able to afford groceries i also have a tooth infection due to the assault that i need medical attention for. i’m sorry for constantly imposing on ny'all and begging all the time, but leaving groceries aside, if you could help me to get to the 200 usd i need for my dental surgery i would be immensely grateful. thank you all for having read up to here and i hope that no matter what you get to find a little joy in your day
hi, the electric company got an anonymous tip that i was clandestinely hooked into the grid and came to cut my line off and make away with the wire. i tried reaching an agreement with them but they were adamant that i am not above the law, and also that i’m not worthy (their words) of having a legal connection.
i know i have asked a lot of you already but if i could also get 80 usd to at least buy a new wire (aluminum, you know that copper would run me like 300 bucks) i would hold you all in my heart forever.
