im not even the type of guy to go “actually it’s frankenstein’s MONSTER” because a painting by rembrandt or picasso or any other artist is often called “a rembrandt” or “a picasso” as shorthand. so in this respect frankenstein’s monster can be considered “a frankenstein”

darling I love your 8 foot tall patchwork flesh creature, it really livens up the place. is that an authentic frankenstein?

it’s only a true frankenstein if it was produced in the frankenstein region of switzerland. otherwise it’s just a sparkling homunculus

one of the more upsetting things you notice if you look back at older european weapons is that nobody fucking named any of the types of flail so you’ve gotta describe them by appearance every single time

me: this is so clearly a distinctive and recurring type of flail that would have to be used in an entirely different way than a normal flail. people fought with and against this hundreds of times. people died to this. they had to have a name for this. it CANNOT just be called a flail again

If radio wasn’t loaded with ads for the dumbest shit possible, I’d prefer radio to everything else.

I’m going to use this as a jumping off point to mention the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act.

It’s… pretty much what it says on the tin. Some car manufacturers are phasing out AM Radio from their cars so they can replace them with their own streaming services - this bill seeks to make them a mandatory feature.

As somebody whose day job is in radio, I totally agree that the amount of ads and the quality of the ads is ridiculous. Personally, I don’t find radio to be an amazing source of political news broadcasting.

But do you know what it is really good at? Providing emergency broadcasts during extreme weather events.

When power and internet is down, radio can be one of the only sources of information, and it’s helped provide lifesaving information during these times.

(Plus, at least in my area of the country, emergency weather alerts override and interrupt programming when broadcast - even during pesky ads!)

So if you want to toss your signature in support, you can head on over here.

I want to make it clear I’m not an expert in this legislation or anything - this is just the stuff I know through working in the industry.

Supporting measures like this is super important. There’s a huge push in multiple industries right now to out lifesaving alerts behind a fucking paywall (see how the NWS got banned from making their own free app and how one weather app only pushed weather alerts to subscribers).

I worked in emergency management for a while and they will literally bring in people to set up makeshift radio stations in an ongoing emergency to get information out. They cannot do the same for internet when I was last in the loop on that.

Also if you don’t like the ads on radio - try non commercial radio. Public radio and college radio both have fewer ads in my experience. And often include sponsorship reads from places that are local to you.

This makes no sense

it literally could not be more straightforward

It literally doesnt make sence, both have the same value, they’re both $30

I think the failure of many people to grasp an incredibly simple, barebones metaphor is demonstrating implicit bias very well

This dude straight up stated the fucking answer and still can’t understand it, because he’s expecting the answer to be his own views lmao

No im not expecting anything its just a badly frammed metaphor

Bro you said the answer. Both have the same value despite different sizes. It’s simple. Basic. Elementary.

But it never says that, it just asks you wich one is greater and the text ends there, wich leads you to thinking that one indeed has greater value then the other, and that the one with the greater value is the answear

It asks you which one has the greater value and what is the answer to that question?

Im not about to argue over a focken tit size metaphor

Never underestimate the lack of reading comprehension on this site lmfao

Me trying to book an appointment with my GP: hey my depression has been getting worse over the last month and its at the point where its interfering with my ability to manage my day-to-day life, I need to discuss medication with my GP asap.

The secretary: well I see that you have an appointment booked with her for a completely unrelated reason a month from now, you should just wait until then and discuss it with her at that appointment.

Me: thanks, yeah, I’ll do that, it’s not like I need to be a functional person at any point for the next month. Also unmedicated depression that is actively getting worse is never really all that dangerous to the patient so it’s okay to just leave them hanging for a full month with no support. I love my country’s healthcare system.

I am able to pressure them for an appointment sooner and I am actively doing that but the fact that I need to is absolute ass.

Literally any other colour would’ve been a better choice guys.

I’d like to point out that the colour red has more positive than negative meanings.

im sorry but this reply absolutely killed me

red can mean whatever the heck you want it to mean, that is never going to change that this straight up looks like they DRAGGED A BLOODY BODY ACROSS THE FUCKING FLOOR 😂

Hi fun fact, colors do have meaning and there is a legit thing called color theory. Red does has more positive connotations than negative like the @mintymaiden said. Red is associated with more love, lust, passion than blood and death just like the chart shows you but If you want, here’s a link for you to check it out yourself. Also, check out “The Designer’s Dictionary of Color” by Sean Adams. Have fun learning something

I think y’all are missing the point here.

You can theorize to Nebraska and back but that doesn’t change my immediate reaction which is that someone is literally dragging a corpse around

I like that the presumption here is that “No One On Tumblr Has Heard of Color Theory, Let Me Explain in Depth” rather than simply acknowledging that the VISUAL EFFECTS of this particular color choice, applied in the manner it was, can still amount to “this is a hospital and that looks like blood”

like, color theory doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If your design of choice for Blood Red Paint is asymmetric splatters and sploches against the wall, or in this case, a snail trail on the hallway’s floor, an infographic won’t override the viewers’ instinct.

this post is the perfect summation of tumblr’s reading comprehension and critical thought abilities

Reblogging because there’s a lot of new people on here and you need some context for the jokes.

Hello everyone, I have another campaign to share.

Falestine is married and has a 3 month old baby, and cannot afford to even give him diapers and milk.

She was made to give birth during this onslaught, and immediately moved from the hospital to a tent. Her home was bulldozed by the occupation, leaving her and her family displaced. The tent where they live is horribly unhygienic and plagued with disease; they are next to a public toilet and surrounded by dirt and waste.

Her mother is chronically ill, and her father tragically suffered a stroke. They currently have no way to treat her illness.

In order to evacuate and provide basic necessities for Falestine’s family, this campaign needs to raise $40,000 USD. Currently, they’ve raised $15,172; A great amount, but not enough.

Please help Falestine and her family. Donate if you’re able to, and share the campaign. No one deserves be forced to live through these horrible conditions.

I think cis people should also be their gender of choice. Like, if you’re a man, you should get to really enjoy being a man- have fun with it! If you’re a woman, take the parts of womanhood that really deeply make you happy. If being a little androgynous or ambiguous or hidden is the part that really makes you happy, you don’t have to be trans for that. If you wanna lean really hard into being femme or masc- do it! You have one life in your body, do what makes you happy. Ditch the stuff you don’t like.

My sinister queer agenda is I think that everyone should be the gender they like in the way they like it.

And cancer. They very much also had skin cancer.

Also yes they did wear sunscreen. Just not in the way most people think of it today. But people in extremely sunny areas have been wearing light fabric but long sleeved and full pants, or smearing mud on their skin for millennia.

Yes, your ancestors had more ozone layer, and yes, your ancestors did have skin cancer, but ALSO they did wear “sunscreen” just not the kind in a bottle from Walmart.

some 18th and 19th century beauty/home apothecary guides recommend wearing cold cream (sometimes set with powder) when you go outside to prevent sunburn

some 18th and 19th cold cream and powder recipes contained zinc oxide, to give a white makeup effect due to the racist/classist belief that Pale Skin Was Better

do you see where I’m going with this

Also: Hats. Every society and time period I’m familiar with prior to the mid 20th century really leaned into wearing something on your head outdoors, which does help keep sun, wind, rain, snow, dust, etc. off your scalp (and potentially face/neck/shoulders).

There was at least one very long and fiddly labour strike in ancient Egypt where the workers refused to build a pyramid until conditions improved, and among their demands was a demand for more “cosmetics” to be supplied to the workers. Egyptian ‘cosmetics’ were, of course, used as sunscreen.
