I think one of the starkest illustrations of how incoherent Hasbro’s goals for Dungeons & Dragons are is that they made the writers take out all the direct references to dragon-fucking in 5E in a bid to render the IP more advertiser-friendly, but still insisted upon keeping a bunch of stuff whose narrative context strongly implies dragon-fucking front and centre in the brand identity, so now the Player’s Handbook has gotta play coy about where dragon-blooded sorcerers come from.

as a subtitler im incredibly biased as i say this but. shoutout to forms of fan labor other than fanart and fanfiction. fanart and fanfiction are awesome, don’t take this as a dig at those, but i have a big appreciation for fans who provide closed captioning/subtitles/translations of works out of love n passion; fans who recap and explain aspects of the original work; fucking SPEEDRUNNERS, holy shit, shoutout to speedrunners and challenge runners in video game communities. lots of things that fall outside the scope of what comes to mind when people think of fanart/fan labor are integral parts of a healthy fan ecosystem
i guess basically i just feel a whole lot of love for people who work to find out and share everything they can about the thing they love and make the thing they love more accessible. people who take the time to add captions/descriptive audio to an auditory/visual work, record an audio version of a written work, adapt a work into a different language, explain the historical cultural context in which a work exists, rip and publish the files of a work, and uncover and share details that are easy to miss. everyone who, in their way, is saying “i love this thing so much. i want to know everything about it, and i want everyone to be able to participate.”

I will not be reblogging posts like those, and you guys should stop making them. It’s not just because, with Kamala Harris in particular, 1. a lot of reasons “progressives” online dislike her is misinformation, 2. most legitimate reasons people have for not liking Biden don’t apply or apply significantly less to her and y'all are just failing to look shit up. But it also just does not do anyone any favors to kneecap people’s enthusiasm right from the get-go. People shouldn’t have to be enthusiastic about the Democratic candidate to be motivated to stop a fascist, with a platform (Project 2025) that promises to fundamentally alter basically every aspect of American life for the worse. But the fact of the matter is that some people do care about that. You aren’t helping by dampening those people’s enthusiasm! Just say “you need to vote for Kamala Harris because xyz.” The “I hate her but” or “even if you hate her” is just selfish bullshit, that centers your feelings, your need to perform this (faux) progressivism for your dash over any political end you’re supposedly working for with that post. It makes it clear that the effects are not actually that important to you relative to your own image. It sucks. Stop it.

I’m sorry about this guys, I know must of you won’t even care about this at all, but for me this is just a very important thing. I feel like this is the first time I feel very very connected to the sims community. Now I’ll be able to completely relate to some of you on the feeling of feeling happy and nostalgic about places and things base on your country or culture. I’ll be able to share my knowledge about my own culture who I am proud of. And I know not all of you relate to this and I hope y’all do it someday too because it feels fucking amazing.

As someone who’s Mexican-American grew up in a city full of Latinos/Mexicans in America, I was so excited because I’ve never traveled to Mexico and idk when I will ever get to. This pack was as close as I’m going to get to exploring the city of Mexico & the world being inspired by the cities in Mexico made me so happy because my dad is from the city. So this pack means a lot to me because of those reasons.
I loved seeing Southeast Asian simmers excited for tomarang because they got to see their cultures in that EP.

i just want to say that reading this literally made me tear up. i love the culture i come from and just like @softle0 said i’m proud of who i am as a person ethnically and culturally. i was SO happy to hear that the newest EP was going to be inspired by mi Mexico Lindo. i was APPALLED when i saw a certain creators “override” i said out loud when i was reading it and just simply said taxis aren’t yellow in mexico but i mean i guess. i grew up in a semi traditional mexican household and even my MOM was excited when i told her the recent pack was inspired by mexico. i had the pleasure of living in mexico for 1 year and it was the best experience ever. we embrace our culture to the max and that’s the best part of being mexican. i never realized how much hate there was for mexicans until this pack came out. it’s frankly heartbreaking and disrespectful to see other cultures get the love us mexicans can even HOPE to get when it comes to our culture. we’re not taco bell mexicans, we’re not chipotle mexicans. we are REAL AUTHENTIC mexicans. going through the pack i almost felt at home with the features that were added in, i was disheartened by the minimal food options but let me just say that wanting “guacamole” as a food option is just plain annoying. yes we eat guacamole but we’re more known for our authentic salsas. let’s all learn to love each and every culture there is to learn about, i’m sure the world would be a better place if we all just learned to be NICE. i’m normally not one to speak on things like this but this touched me and i just needed to say my piece on it.
