14 year old transgender girl Pauly Likens was unjustly robbed of her life due to trans panic between the dates of June 22nd and July 3rd, 2024. say her name.
i have seen only one or two posts about this, but none of them include her name and it sickens me. Her name is Pauly Likens, a 14 year old transgender girl from Sharon, Pennsylvania who met up with a 29 year old man whom she met on Grindr who was brutally murdered and her body was dismembered because she was a trans girl. she went missing on June 22nd, and her dismembered body was found on July 3rd, 2024. her body was DISMEMBERED and thrown into a river. she was not only murdered but BRUTALLY murdered. she was 14 years old. 14. she couldn’t even legally drive yet in the united states. she just barely graduated elementary school.
her mother is fighting for her case to be processed and acknowledged as a hate crime. i am disgusted to find out that my home state of Pennsylvania only considers racial discrimination as real discrimination that can be persecuted by law. gender identities and sexual orientations are not considered at all. lawyers and government officials are also trying to deny that it was a hate crime, because her murderer was a self admitted gay man. i don’t care what type of queer you are: there is never an excuse to lay hands on a transgender person just because you don’t like how they identify.
this is utterly sickening. to say this wasn’t a hate crime is living in denial. i don’t care if her murderer was gay. he’s a murderer who had a clearly charged reason for doing this. he stole a life from a young transgender girl for no reason other than she identified in a way he didn’t like. he’s not dangerous because he’s gay, nor is he exempt from being transphobic. his sexuality had nothing to do with this. not only was this man a dangerous transphobe, but a predator. a 29 year old man willingly met up with a 14 year old girl. this man is dangerous for reasons that have nothing to do with his sexuality. he’s a transphobic child predator. he deserves no sympathy or to get off scott free just because he’s gay. he willingly met up with Pauly. she didn’t force him to do anything. she was a child, and he is an adult.
please say her name. while talking about the dangers of Grindr and how minors should not use it, please include her name. yes Grindr is an extremely dangerous platform for trans women, men, and trans people in general, but that shouldn’t be the focus of your conversation about her. don’t use her death as a platform to discuss how fucked up grindr is without acknowledging who she was as a person. don’t just make her another statistic on a page. she was a real person, a child, who was robbed of her life, and robbed from her community. she is not just another number in a long list of trans panic murders. her life meant something. say her name. fight like hell for Pennsylvania to acknowledge that her death WAS a hate crime. their archaic outdated laws need updating.
her family has a GoFundMe to give her a proper burial, please consider donating or spreading the word about it:
people who know little to nothing about ace attorney you should just be aware that despite miles edgeworth’s weird stuck up aura his special interest is canonically a children’s samurai show
????
other occasions where he is a fangirl off the top of my head:
- in the third case of the first game the actor who plays the main character is accused of murder and after the trial edgeworth tells him he admires his work
- has a statue of said main character in his office (yes at work) and claims it was a gift he is only keeping for the sake of being polite
- however if you interact with it in the first case of ace attorney investigations he infodumps about how despite its main demographic being children it also appeals to adults because–
- hid a steel samurai book inside his law book during a flight
- his ringtone is the show’s theme song
- in ace attorney 6 he discovers that another country has a show which is essentially a rip off of the steel samurai and he goes on a passionate rant about how awful it is and how his samurai show is obviously better
- various pieces of official art where he is wearing merchandise or getting an autograph from the aforementioned actor or… staring longingly at his favourite character??
like it’s so funny because on the surface he’s this righteous guy who values his career over all else and only really cares about bringing criminals to justice. he’s emotionally repressed and uses big complicated words and doesn’t go anywhere not wearing a jabot as if he lives in the baroque period. and all of that is true to some extent but then you play the games and it’s like oh! he’s gay and has twelve mental illnesses and watches children’s shows. got it
As someone who works in the Pharmaceutical industry, this is 100% correct.
A very common mis-conception about birth control is that it’s only used to prevent pregnancy.
This could not be more incorrect.
On top of the reasons listed above, birth control can also help regulate hormones to stabilize mood, help clear up your acne, and obviously, help our transgender friends with their hormone treatments.
Birth control is not just to prevent pregnancy!
Birth control is health care!
preventing pregnancy is also health care, you dinguses
Hey, if you have half a minute and care about the LGTBQIA+ community in the EU, I’d suggest you take a look at this initiative to ban conversion therapies in the EU.
1 million people are required to sign, but there’s barely 100k. The form takes less than a minute, it only requires your ID, name and surname.
Please, help spread the initiative so that it can reach the goal ASAP!
“Kissing Doesn’t Kill“ (Black and white postcard) from 1980’s ACT UP campaign for HIV/AIDS awareness.
This is the banner that was put up on buses to create awareness! a lot of companies cropped out the bottom so I thought it would be cool to share the full version
“i dont dislike taylor swift as a person, i just think her music is not that good” well i hate her as well. why the fuck am i biking everywhere and taking trains and walking two hours if she produces two tons of co2 emissions for a 15min flight. fuck her
if a surgeon says you have to fast, you have to fast. end of story.
if a surgeon says your child has to fast, they have to fast. even if they are rreeeaaaallly hungry. even if they beg for food. even if they cry. even if they throw a tantrum. even if they scream for hours.
if a surgeon says you have to fast, you have to fast.

the medicine the doctor gives you to make you sleep, called anesthesia, makes you sleep differently than you do at night. Medicine sleep is so deep that the muscle that keeps your stomach closed falls asleep too.
Your stomach and your lungs are connected by your esophagus, which connects to your mouth and brings air to your lungs and food into your stomach.
Because you’ll be laying flat on your back, This means if you have food in your stomach it can come up out of your stomach, and because they’re connected by your esophagus, food or drink that comes out of your stomach can go into your lungs.
Because they aren’t supposed to have stuff other than air in them, having food or drinks in your lungs can make you really sick.
The doctors really don’t want that to happen, which is why they ask you not to eat or drink anything the day you’re having your surgery/whatever you’re getting anesthesia for. It can be really hard but it’s important!

so much love for characters who are desperately unsure whether they’re a good person, a redeemable person, a person worth saving, but are absolutely certain that they’re a grade a hottie

working at a grocery store this is something i was so worried would happen, i cant stop someone from trying to feed themselves.
but it literally hasn’t happened. people steal fried chicken and pack steaks into a duffel bag. or they have me write on cakes for their coworkers birthday and run out the door with it. they eat chicken and dump the bones on a shelf they pay for the rest of their “groceries”.
i’ve never once seen anyone steal bread, or fruit, or vegetables, or cold chicken
Same
We have free purified water but no they steal soda
so you’re saying it people are trying to feed themselves
How dare poor people eat things they enjoy rather than bland staples, the only thing they deserve
A little disappointed that this didn’t become a site-wide week-long discourse topic/meme fodder because it’s a discussion we’re way overdue to have
Like, let’s set aside the practical concerns, like how “unhealthy” food has more calories while taking up less bag space, people can’t survive on nothing but bread and water, many poor communities are food deserts where fresh food isn’t even available to steal, and many people (including the explicitly unhoused man in the meme) don’t have a way to prepare frozen chicken. Let’s set all that aside, because poor people aren’t required to justify every single action to you specifically
Instead let’s talk about the sheer undisguised hatred of the poor on display here. “The fried food at the grocery store is for me, because I’m a good special boy with money, if the filthy poors want to steal they can steal the dried gruel powder because that’s all they’re good enough for. Or they can have meat, I suppose, but only if it’s frozen meat that they’ll have to go heat up themselves to prove to me that they’ve earned it. And make sure they grab some raw vegetables that they’ll have to chop and cook themselves too, that’ll be a good use of their bountiful time and energy. If they wanted not to be miserable, they should have tried not being poor, like me!”
There is literally no justification for this shit. If you believe that stealing bread from a chain grocery store is a justified act that hurts no one, why the fuck would you feel different about steak? Why are you even thinking about this shit? Why are you sitting around fuming at the thought of poor people having anything that makes life worth living? What does it fucking matter to you?
How can you be heartless enough to look at a society where people have to steal in order to feed themselves and their families, and your biggest concern is about policing what they steal?
“They only steal the expensive stuff, then they go and PAY for the cheap stuff???”
Gee I wonder why that would be…
I wonder why you’ve never seen someone with no house steal raw chicken before. There are just some mysteries that can truly never be solved
For the record, I was homeless for a while - or at least, I lived in a motel by the highway. And luckily I had access to a mini fridge - and it was the kind of motel where people just *lived*, which I discovered when they served Thanksgiving dinner in the lobby to everyone and asked us if we’d like to come down for it. (I cried. A lot.)
That mini fridge was a miracle, but I didn’t have anything like a hot plate or a way to prepare food - just a pot for coffee/hot water. Mostly what I ate was peanut butter and jam sammiches, apples, and lunch meat and cheese if I could get it, because it was expensive. I never got to the point of stealing… but it wasn’t because I thought I was too good to steal. The smell of the fried chicken in the grocery store deli was murder. I just didn’t think I could get away with it.
If I didn’t have that mini fridge or a way to keep my food cold and safe… yeah, I’d probably be stealing that fucking chicken.
So as a retail worker who has five years of experience, I’d like to put my two cents in. While most people advocate stealing if you can’t buy food(which I do understand and completely empathize with), you must remember that you aren’t just stealing from the corporation, you are in fact stealing from the employees themselves. So many times I’ve asked for overtime and have been denied it bc our shrink is too high. Ever wonder why there aren’t enough cashiers? Cutting hours bc we need to recoup on our shrink. Also, on another note, the things I see people usually steal are high value electronics(like $70 fans, tvs, earbuds), makeup, and like $50+ toys. So while I empathize, please don’t steal. You are literally taking money out of employees paychecks, and depending on the corporation itself, you could actually get them fired for not catching when people steal.

actually very easy to believe some people are shitty
@flower884 and everyone else in retail, I’m sorry, but you’re misassigning blame here.
The people stealing from your corporate overlords aren’t the ones choosing to understaff your workplace, cut your hours, pay you empoverishing wages much less than true value of your labor, nor fire you because they think the store’s shrink is too large: Your corporate overlords are the ones doing that and they blaming John val John hoping you and everyone else believes them so you don’t organize and demand concessions: and you’ve swallowed that pill like a potassum supository.
You’ve been in retail for five years; do some fucking organizing, form a union, fuck your boss’s wife, and don’t be the snitch that gets John 6 years hard labor for stealing some bread to feed his family.
It’s not that hard*, just do what Chris Smalls do: he led a win against Amazon. FUCKING Amazon. Successfully unionizing, or even failing to unionize but scaring the shit out of the corporate overlords that you might succeed will have a lot larger, more positive effect on your material conditions than bitching on the internet about poor people wanting necessary or nice things they can’t comfortably afford.
*Don’t misunderstand me, it’s hard work, organizing. Chris Smalls fought for over two years and a wrongful termination to acheive the win for fellows, but you’ll more likely to find success in unionizing even against the most notorious union buster than you are to baulk even one person from theft of either necesity or pleasure on the basis of, in my opinion, a critically flawed moral argument**.
**I view the so-called property rights of corporations as illegitimate***, so ‘stealing from a store’ is to me morally nonsensical even as I’m forced to recognize its legal reality. The point of this footnote being that I don’t think there is anything morally wrong with freely taking what ought be freely available to you, and you’d never convince me against 'shoplifting’ using a moral argument, least of all the consequencialist one you’re making because, as previously stated, you’re misassigning blame. Again, unionize and fuck your boss’s wife, yeah?
***As a property abolitionist, I also view a lot of 'property rights of individuals’ as illegitimate too, but that’s outside the scope of this discussion.
Also; what? It’s very sweet, actually, to steal a cake for your coworker 💖
Also-also, corporations have a budget explicitly to handle stolen product. All the poor people stealing food so they can not starve are not running them dry to the point that they have to fire employees. If they were at that point, they would already be shutting down so they didn’t go bankrupt.
Tl;dr:
i worked at ross dress for less for a year or two. they checked our bags at the end of every shift. a girl was fired for allegedly stealing some makeup.
they made us do half an hour of cleanup after we’d all clocked out or we’d be penalized for not ‘clocking out on time’ but also ‘not finishing facing’. half an hour of work at minimum wage was about 3$, multiplied by 5-8 employees per shift, multiplied by about three shifts. per year. forever.
they’d hammer on and on and ON at us about loss prevention and shrinkage, while skimming off 45$-72$ from their own employees in wage theft. every day. plus the hours of free work managers put in. but whenever we were denied raises or bonuses or pizza rewards or whatever it was always because of ‘all the shrinkage this quarter’ and they’d blame thieves, for their shitty secondhand crap they bought in huge remaindered job lots anyway.
my manager cried in her office once, for a company that extracted hundreds of dollars worth of free work off its employees every month, and then blamed the poor for our abuse.
you’re not being overworked and underpaid because your grocery chain is being robbed blind by filthy savages and fucking walmart or wherever needs to pinch some pennies. your bosses are fucking you over specifically because they can.

As a retail worker, if you blame other poor people or homeless people for your low wages, you’re a fucking bootlicker riddled with propaganda.
A corporation is not a person, the people stealing even expensive things are living, breathing people.
You want to know why people steal non-food items? Because we live in a society that operates on profit. Electronics like TVs and Headphones, expensive jewelry, shitty brand expensive clothing, etc. Are all valuable items that can be sold. That money can go to fresh meals, phone bills, campsite fees or hotel fees, or a common one is Fines, because it’s rare to be homeless and not have a cop cite you some bullshit, hundred dollar violation for something like sleeping on a bench, or your car having a missing brake light, and thats if you’re lucky and said cop doesn’t beat you or steal what you have on you.
Corporations are not people. Corporations are a infinite money glitch cycle so some rich fucks can horde money like fucking Smaug and convince the employees that oh we could pay more if Homeless Susan didn’t steal that $25 package of diapers.
If you are a retail worker, you are closer to being that homeless person stealing a bucket of security cameras than to even your District Manager, and yet the rich have you convinced that you are somehow better than your fellow humans.
As a retail worker, you are not allowed to be punished if someone steals in front of you and you don’t stop it. In fact, and actual retail workers will tell you this, we are advised to literally let people walk out because if we jump in we could open the Store up for lawsuits or workman’s comp claims, so they’d rather eat the shoplift than pay for the medical bills of an employee who got hurt.
And even if you get a talk down from your manager, I’d say that’s better than living with yourself knowing you just helped the Cops arrest a starving person who was just trying to get some food, clothes, or money so they could live another day.
Corporations aren’t humans, they have no loyalty. That homeless person who just stole a flat-screen is more likely to give you support if you can’t pay your rent and find yourself evicted, than a Corporation. A Corporation will not show you the loyalty you show it, a Corporation will throw you on your ass if your performance suffers due to illness, disaster, grief, disability etc. Because a Corporation is. Not. Human. And they will not be there when you fall.
Don’t let the King convince you that the peasants are holding him back from paying you better. The only thing holding him back is greed. You will never see a share of his gold that you protect so loyally.
Hi disabled person and ex-thief. Do you know what happens if you are disabled and cannot work a traditional job but also do not have any of the support to get disability benefits? You can’t pay rent!
When you say oh stealing food is fine, but there is no reason to steal and sell fine art supplies, all I read is that you can’t imagine I exist. Or you think I shouldn’t.
I paid rent with art supplies specifically several years ago because there was no other way. Should I have lost all my pets and been forced to live in my car instead? So Hobby Lobby doesn’t suffer? Yeah ok
It’s actually terrifying to see folks who have never had to do the math required to survive in capitalism
did some concept designs for my ver of the bishops and cultist ocs, very much subject to change in my au the bishops get to have their original robes after indoctrination bc i think its COOL
Hey, everyone. I can’t believe I have to say this, but here goes: a lot of gimmick blogs are minors. Actually, a lot of people on here in general are under 18, have “minor” in their bio or pinned post or have mentioned it before. Quite a few even have certain boundaries given, regardless of the owner’s age (even though they’re commonly found in minor’s blogs). For example: people say “don’t do kinky shit in my reblogs” “don’t sexualise me” “don’t make any romantic/sexual advances” “ask for permission before dming” or simply a “don’t be weird”.
Now, a lot of gimmick blogs have gained a large following, are interacted with a lot, et cetera. Some of us are adults, some of us are okay with NSFW/suggestive content. Some of us, however, are not.
Why am I saying this? Because one of my very close friends has been getting kinky reblogs for the second time in not very long despite their earlier pinned post being “I’M A MINOR DON’T BE WEIRD” with an example of what exactly weird things would be. And despite all that, they got similar, extremely fucking weird things in their notes. They’re fourteen. I had an adult saying some rather weird stuff to me, and though he backed off a little when he found out I was a minor, he was still more than a little pushy with conversations and it made me uncomfortable. Some people get hate or threats, which is as bad as sexual shit in my opinion. It’s really not okay, and I’m tired of watching this happen. Yes, they genuinely apologize at times (sometimes they’re a bit too genuine, it gets really pushy and strange for the other person) but still, it’s better if these invasive actions did not occur at all.
Let’s make one thing very clear: gimmicks are people. Everyone on here is a person. There is someone behind the screen and the cool character and the roleplay and the jokes, and that person has boundaries that other people need to respect. As I said before, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but whatever. Don’t be horny in the notes of minors if they haven’t explicitly said that they’re okay with it. Don’t send people weird dms and don’t be pushy or obsessive or develop parasocial relationships with people. I’ve seen these things happen, I’ve experienced them myself (ew) and it’s damn horrible. Tumblr is supposed to be a place to have fun and connect with people, not the place to be sexually harassed or hated on. So, with all due respect: stop. I’m personally okay with mildly suggestive things, but there are people who may not be, and those people deserve respect and space. Thank you to all the people who are normal and kind and make people happy with their interaction, and fuck you to everyone who thinks it’s okay to harass people. Thanks for sitting through this apparently much needed TedTalk, I guess.
Hello people,
Please remember what a boundary is, not a command but a threat:
if you do xIwill/won’t do y
So when someone doesn’t respect the boundaries given, block them.
How much leeway you give is up to you but I recommend zero tolerance regarding stuff like this
do u remember when the wider feminist position on gendered sport was that we should abolish it, and that women’s accomplishments can be measured side by side (& indeed, neck and neck) with men’s? what the fuck happened to that? (*whispering* i know what happened. it was the terf movement.)
literally no feminist ever argued for the abolishment of sex segregation in sports. do you people just think sexual dimorphism isn’t real or
Not every sport selects for high testosterone. Some sports have been segregated because when they were mixed women beat men. We also know by now that “sexual dymorphism” isn’t actually the main determinant factor for success in sports, money is. And the fact that women always get the short end of the stick when it comes to access to training facilities, finance, and even investigation into what training methods work best, is not a biological issue but rather a systemic social one. Hope this helps.
People are talking about how reading Dungeon Meshi gives them an internal monologue Senshi for eating properly I think we all need to adopt an internal monologue Chilchuck at work. Like the boat is literally sinking and he’s just watching it happen because he’s on his lunch break.
The year is 2551; fantasy writers have started highly romanticizing the 90s~early 2000s(much like how most fantasy novels today are written in a medieval setting)when technology was still primitive. You’re a writer who decides to cash in on this trend, but your knowledge on the era is…limited.
Literally any other colour would’ve been a better choice guys.
I’d like to point out that the colour red has more positive than negative meanings.
im sorry but this reply absolutely killed me
red can mean whatever the heck you want it to mean, that is never going to change that this straight up looks like they DRAGGED A BLOODY BODY ACROSS THE FUCKING FLOOR 😂
Hi fun fact, colors do have meaning and there is a legit thing called color theory. Red does has more positive connotations than negative like the @mintymaiden said. Red is associated with more love, lust, passion than blood and death just like the chart shows you but If you want, here’s a link for you to check it out yourself. Also, check out “The Designer’s Dictionary of Color” by Sean Adams. Have fun learning something
You can theorize to Nebraska and back but that doesn’t change my immediate reaction which is that someone is literally dragging a corpse around
I like that the presumption here is that “No One On Tumblr Has Heard of Color Theory, Let Me Explain in Depth” rather than simply acknowledging that the VISUAL EFFECTS of this particular color choice, applied in the manner it was, can still amount to “this is a hospital and that looks like blood”
like, color theory doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If your design of choice for Blood Red Paint is asymmetric splatters and sploches against the wall, or in this case, a snail trail on the hallway’s floor, an infographic won’t override the viewers’ instinct.
this post is the perfect summation of tumblr’s reading comprehension and critical thought abilities
Reblogging because there’s a lot of new people on here and you need some context for the jokes.
Help a newcomer, reblog Children’s Hospital Colour Theory
Ive looked at this guys deviantart. He likes making comics where judy dies, but only if its funny. There are a lot of comics like that in his gallery, or there were last time i checked. The fox in the picture is not nick wilde, its a female fox oc who he wrote about judy getting with and marrying and adopting kids with after she broke up with nick. The abortion comic was not actually pro life, it was just meant to be a one shot soap opera type story that happened to use abortion to create the drama. Judy is supposed to be the one in the right in that comic, which is why she gets all those nice things happening to her in the follow up comic.
I think the thought process is that he wants to write overly dramatic and silly stories and just happens to use zootopia characters to do that instead of making up ocs for it for some reason.
Oh wow, this actually is a soap opera. That’s insane.
Shout out to this one woman from Blair Witch Project. According to the directors everyone involved in the scene was a plant, except for her, some random woman from the real Burkitsville who was asked about the Blair Witch and immediately made up a story about seeing a documentary on the Discovery Channel about disappearing hunters. While carrying a child. Unsung MVP of horror
as a nonbinary person I shall only be posting my left titty which is my boy titty, and not the right one which is the horrid unclean girl titty, this is as tumblr has decreed
Vulcan teen on Vulcan [tiktok] saying “I have just lost track of my father in the grocery store.” The camera turns to show the viewers the grocery store in which almost every single older middle-aged man has a bowlcut and long robes. Camera turns back to show the teen’s face which is expressionless and yet communicates all it needs to.
if i had three wishes they would all be to make web 2.0 utterly illegal and go back to normal html
how do we explain to children that all our tech briefly worked perfectly and over time we threw it all away for sleek menus and corporate opacity
“we could give you a link to this mp3 OR we could run it in a proprietary player app that must connect to the internet every time you hit the resume button”
when i upgraded from a flip phone to an iphone and realized i could no longer record and set a custom ringtone because apple wanted me to buy radio pop ringtones, i realized, oh cool new tech isnt made for us it’s made to exploit us and we are going to let it happen
I don’t have time to draw it right now but while driving home from the winco I saw a happy mustached man pedaling a bike, towing a cart built to look like a chariot, inside of which stood what I can only imagine was his completely expressionless 13 year old in a makeshift corinthian helmet

What are some chronic illnesses that can only occur in a fantasy setting?
Partial transformation - mummy rot is slowly turning you to sand, a near miss from a medusa left you with partially stoned body parts, etc.
Hypnotic suggestions from being mind controlled persist after the controller’s death, causing the victim to occasionally take actions to support the cause of a mind flayer cult that no longer exists.
Repeated demonic possession has left the patient with permanent gaps in their soul’s defenses, causing them to immediately get re-possessed if they go outside a consecrated area.
Post-resurrection trauma as the revived soul remembers an unpleasant afterlife.
Magical healing can get very weird if something is stuck in the wound. It’ll get you back on your feet, but you can get outcomes like “there’s a chunk of wood fused into your chest because the magic couldn’t figure out how to get the arrow out of your chest and just healed it in place,” and this can cause mobility issues or infection vectors down the line.
SHealth tied to something else - the health of a tree, the amount of frost on the ground, the inverse of another person’s, the political power of whoever cursed you
Curse of bad luck - makes any small illness or injury potentially fatal if not treated with anti-curse in addition to anti-infection procedures
Magical reliance on a magical or nonmagical substance - can have any number of side effects
Repeatedly being drunk by vampires can cause an increase in blood production and therefore high blood pressure and related ailments. Can be treated by blood letting.
There’s a lot of hybridization happening in a lot of fantasy settings, and that’s just asking for a lot of people with weird half-dragon genetic disorders. Works out fine for some people, not so much for others.
Parasitized by (insert creature here). If you don’t take the correct precautions to keep it dormant it will continue to spread and eventually hatch out/transform you.
Repeated contact with the undead has left you open to their influence - leading to hearing or seeing things that other mortals can’t, which can distort or distract from more mundane concerns.
Alternately to being more vulnerable to intrusion, one’s soul can form a scar that makes helpful magic more difficult to take in.
Sleep disorders that make one fall into an impenetrable sleep at a specific trigger, or to do so for years at a time.
Out of phase with 4D space, one’s body not connected to itself or anchored in place/time in the usual way. There could be a consistent two hour gap between the things you hear and what has happened, you might clip into the floor as if it was in a different place for you, or you might slide through the material plane in cross section.
Intermittent intangibility.
Split into two people, each with only half your traits.
Stuck in a mirror.
Sensitivity to ambient magic - like the thing where peoples’ joints ache before a storm but for being near ley lines or people with a lot of magic built up or other magic reservoirs. - The potential for magic, but where the magic has not yet begun.
Heal spell dependency: years of repeated serious injuries being healed by magic causes the body to stop healing naturally. seen often in professional fighters and those with a long career in hazardous occupations.
the forgotten dread: memory modification magic has caused the subject’s conscious mind to forget some past trauma, but their subconscious still remembers, causing them emotions that they cannot explain or justify ranging from mild discomfort to blind panic when presented with triggers related to the aforementioned trauma. often encountered in cases where the subject has paid an unscrupulous mage to make them forget their past as an ill-advised alternative to therapy.
Psychically Transmitted Memories: the subject’s mind has been linked to another person’s and, although the bond has since been severed, they have retained memories or thought patterns from the other person that are difficult to distinguish from their own.
Negative Life Syndrome (previously “False Life Syndrome”): seen most often in cases when the subject is exposed to dark magic while in the womb, Negative Life Syndrome leaves the subject’s life energies tainted by undeath without making them truly undead. common symptoms include intolerance of radiant magic, aversion to sunlight, and the inability to set foot on hallowed ground; rare symptoms include healing from negative energies, sudden necrosis, and the desire to eat flesh or drink blood of living beings.
lycanthropy
Early Life Possessions: the subject was possessed by a spirit or demon during early childhood or infancy, and the possessing presence was in control of them when they learned important milestones, such as how to walk or speak. The subject is now dependant upon the possessing presence to help them perform these tasks or, in cases where the presence has since been exorcised, performs the relevant tasks at a level appropriate for an infant or small child.
Body requires nutrients not found in human food, and you must eat rocks, or gems, or some other alternative. You may or may not have the ability to actually digest these without magical assistance
Awareness of too many dimensions makes it difficult to interact with just this one - either to keep track of conversations, or walk to specific locations without ending up on another planet instead
Telekinetic psychosis - delusions tend to physically affect those around you (but HIGH chance for ableism in this one!)
you have flare-ups where your skin tends to slough off and be replaced by some other substance
After sharing life energy with a dying loved one, you’re now both trying to survive off one person’s supply. Like chronic fatigue, but if your loved one gets too big of a bruise you won’t have the energy to get up until it heals
living in reverse
stuck at a certain age
supersenses lead to constant overstimulation
you’re a changeling, and if you don’t have someone who loves you close by, you’ll turn back into sticks and mud
There are a fair few faux feminist statements I hate, but “We are the daughters of the witches you couldn’t burn” is one of them.
Historically inaccurate understanding of both who was persecuted by the witch trials and how those persecuted were typically dealt with? ✅️
Trivialising the torture and live immolation of real actual people by implying they somehow weren’t strong or clever enough to avoid being burned at the stake? ✅️
Invoking a legacy that categorically does not belong to them in an attempt to claim an oppression they and their ancestors never faced? ✅️
For those who want details on the first checkmark:
The victims of witch burning in north America (the way too famous Salem Witch Trials mainly, but not solely) were people whose crime was “not being liked by whichever person/people wiped up the mass histeria about witchcraft.”
In European witch burnings, victims were more varied and included: Random victims of mass hysteria (like in NA), people suffering from mental illnesses, mentally or physically disabled people, heretics, atheists, Jews, folk healers, early scientists and VERY RARELY actual practitioners of pagan religions which SOMETIMES included traditions and and rituals which the average Tumblr user might recognize as “witchy.”
Alongsides this, I also want to add that for most of history the concept of “witches” (and synonymous words in other languages) was lumped in which other concepts such as balto-german werewolves or the southslavic predecessors to “vampires”. But most important, many of these concepts were unisex, also contradicting the pop-feminst angle
To me “We are the daughters of the Witches you couldn’t burn.” isn’t about some plucky proto-feminist ideal (made up) atheists or wiccan woman someone existing in puritan Massachusetts. To me, that statement brings to mind some poor peasant boy from medieval Lithuania suffering from food poisoning or schizophrenia and getting accused of being a child-eater (for reasons totally unrelated to his grandpa being a converted Jew, wink wink) and the mob demanding he be behaved until the local clergyman rides in and reminds them all that, actually, witches aren’t real.
But sure, let’s pretend that this was a “unisex” persecution and use a boy as the hypothetical face of the witch trial victims (80% of whom were women).
The fact that you screenshotted the Wikipedia summary as your grand comeback only reinforces the above points and my initial issue being the complete lack of interest in engaging in the historical context and nuance of a significantly widespread tragedy in favour of what it actually was rather than how you can use it as a stick to beat marginalised people.
Women were the usual targets. Women - especially midwives and healers of communities - were also often the people doing the targeting.
To look at history ONLY through one lens be it gender, sexuality, class, or region is to not actually look at history.
There is a massive difference between the French 14th century witch-trials and the Icelandic 17th century ones just as an example.
There are better rallying cries uniting and lifting up women than a complete falsehood.
There were no witches, it did not mean “strong independent woman”. It usually meant elderly or disabled or foreign.
