Last time I looked, my best bet to use AO3 safely and free was to go straight to AO3.
I don’t understand the appeal of this. Has anyone ever thought “you know what would make AO3 better? Ads!”

Because AO3 is that site. Because AO3 was that site long before you decided AO3 was better than the sites you bullied us off of before, and I can promise you if someone somehow comes up with a fanfic site you like better specifically for the ‘gross stuff’ you’ll try to bully us off that too so you can benefit from it.
AO3’s specific core purpose is to preserve fanfiction, yes, but it was also instigated as a host site for the fanfiction that kept getting yeeted off other platforms like Wattpad. Its designed to preserve all fanfiction, not just the fanfiction you, personally, think is 'allowed’ to be written.
AO3 is the site for all the gross stuff the freaks make. We’ve been there just as long as you. We’ve been funding it just as long as you have. AO3 has specifically said you have a place here. The timeline was literally:
Wattpad/FF.net/LiveJournal purge fanfics > AO3 is born > The people who’s fics got purged moved over to AO3 > AO3 gains popularity as the best functioning site > The people who pushed for the fics to be purged off Wattpad move to AO3 > The same people try to push for AO3 to purge fics.
AO3’s source coding is open-access. You go make a polished, strict, rigid site where nothing 'icky’ is allowed. You go make a site where you can control what is hosted. We already have our space.
That’s a tough one because a part of me would want it to be “accurate” because the accurate version says so much about the real mindset of that religion, but the accurate version is also the most boring. Heaven and Hell in Christianity are just literally NOTHING. Heaven is floating around forever in just pure unbroken bliss (they don’t want to say it this way, but what they seem to mean is one never-ending orgasm) and canonically Hell is just people hovering in infinite fire in so much pain they can’t do anything but convulse and scream and that’s it. “Real” Christian afterlife beliefs are utterly devoid of worldbuilding or story material! You get either the good nothingness or the bad nothingness! Supposedly you never even say another word ever again for eternity because you can’t in hell and have no reason to in heaven. At least, that’s what every Christian I’ve ever known in “real life” thinks?
I think getting into how I’d fix that while remaining true to the spirit would take me a lot longer to sort out. I think they should maybe STILL be places where the human souls are distilled down to one mindless sensation, because that’s actually got some intriguing applications too, but I’d want there to be other things other than all the floating idiots. Souls are probably like an infinite energy resource to everything else inhabiting those realms.
Messaging people for the first time is so hard. What am I supposed to say? Like, “You seem really odd and your blog intrigues me. Do you want to have philosophical conversations or perhaps talk about fictional characters?” What! Whatever. I will just follow you back and stare at your blog with my big beautiful brown eyes.

Okay no Chicago is not a coastal city. When I moved up to the Midwest (currently in iowa) and I heard someone say “let’s go to the beach” and they meant TO A LAKE I about died. The beach is Galveston, corpus Christi, Miami, etc. Beaches are where the land touches THE OCEAN. not a lake!! I will die on this hill!!!! Midwesterners just want to pretend like their states aren’t boring as fuck. Be happy with your great lakes and stop calling them beaches! They’re lake shores!

a really funny thing about my crested gecko is that he likes to watch youtube with me and is evolving into an ipad baby
he has this big hollow log propped up against the glass wall of his enclosure that he can tunnel into but instead of using it as intended he likes to climb to the tallest point of it so he can get a direct sight line of my laptop screen, he specifically only does this when a video is playing on it, and will just sit there watching it for hours
btw this is the same animal of mine that i had out during my friends rewatch of all the trolls movies, during the second or so movie he was gazing up at the screen watching trolls 2 so intently to the point where i tried to put him back in his enclosure only for him to cling onto the keyboard velcro style and refuse to be picked up because of how attached he was to Trolls 2

highlighting amal’s lovely family once again on her behalf🖤 amal introduced herself to me about ~1 week ago with a message asking for help. before being displaced, she was studying french and working towards obtaining her master’s degree
in this video, she is describing her family’s current living conditions- which have become even more unbearable/inhumane as the temperatures continue to rise during these summer months. her baby girl, maryam, has only ever known a life of war and violence. the cost of basic necessities for families like amal’s continue to rise- forcing them to pull from their evacuation funding in order to sustain what little standard of living they have.
amal has told me she has difficulty boosting her own content here due to how weak her wifi/signal is. ghazzans are reliant on e-sims to communicate- however, they must travel far distances in order to activate them. this trip alone puts them at greater risk. the messages that do get to reach us are a privilege to receive b/c they are coming at a great personal expense.
her family continues to lean on your generous support as they tirelessly work towards finding a path to safety. please help me elevate their voices even higher. since my first post, we have been able to double amal’s donations. we must keep this momentum going as they are still very low in funds.
When it comes to textured hair there’s many styles, here some I’ve seen at powwows. Braided locs have to be my favorite style so far 💖
(Edit)- i didn’t communicate this very well but this is a merging of cultures. Culturally/traditionally no we didn’t have cornrows/locs these are black hairstyles, and then mixed with our hairstyles because of the influence of Afro indigenous people (the two braids)💖 having two braids for some regalia is very important and so these are hairstyles I’ve seen Afro natives wear for powwows. Not saying two pigtails are just a native thing but cultural context is important
Reminder braids are not a universal hairstyle between tribes! I’m coming from the perspective of Great Plains tribes. I just thought I might share what braided hair means to my community and people. I see people trying to make ocs or redesigns of characters who are native but don’t actually represent us too good. Reminder to always research a tribe before making a character learn their protocols and at least try to learn something new! 🌸💖🍇

i’ve said this about many celebrities before but I just want to say that smugness about allegations of abuse because you don’t like a famous person or their work or fanbase is one of the most inhumane reactions you can have
Baby trans girls: you do not have “like, A cup boobies.” Get some measuring tape. Learn your bust and band size. Do not eyeball this. Even if you dont want to wear bras, knowing your measurements will make shopping easier. Get your hip, waist, and butt while you’re at it.
Most of all though, this will teach you to be less of a stranger to your body. Nobody really teaches you this. But you have a woman’s body now. Treat it like one, like it is yours. You can be an outside observer to yourself through an objectifying gaze, or you can learn that your cup size is probably larger than you thought.
Cup size is not based on looks. It is based on surface area. Even cis women make this mistake and wear uncomfortable bras for years. On my second year of E, i took measurements again and was shocked to find I was a C cup despite what i thought was little visible difference in size; growth in other areas really played tricks on my eyes.
And while we are at this, if learning your measurements seems scary because you think it will make shopping scarier or that you’ll never find something that could fit you; whatever hanghup you have, there are cis women facing it too. Maybe you’ll never wear the frilly lingerie store stuff, but neither will an awful lot of women in general. Measurements in hand, you can find a lot of stores and resources catering to all shapes and sizes.
All this said, the societal standard that you “need” to wear one for decency is prudish bullshit. Do what will be most comfortable for you, but dont reject the notion of a bra as a fashion accessory; certain types look better with certain kinds of tops. Some tops are a tough sell without one. And many bralettes alone can make an incredible top for a layered warm weather outfit.

Bust you measure loosely all the way around your chest, at the fullest point of your breasts.
Underbust will be your band size and will be beneath your breasts.
Cup size will be based on the difference in inches. 1 is A, 2 is B, 3 is c and so on.
Your waist is the thinnest part at the center of your torso, hip the widest part near your pelvis. It x4 could also be helpful to measure the length between these two points.
I do not know measurements for European or other systems sizing, only american.
Wired bras are very often uncomfortable. Make sure you try different bra types and ask any cis women you have as friends to help you shop, it truly is the trick. I did this before I transitioned even socially.
You can adjust bra straps and also, *do it* if none of the straps are long enough. I’ve broad shoulders and a broad back and most bras didn’t fit me or fit my back but not my cup. There’s tutorials to DIY mixing two types of bras to get the cup and back size you need.
When you’re trans, I feel like you either get good at sewing or you get really good at finding things that fit you.
There’s also like, so many types of bras. Find the one that fits you. Don’t just settle for the one everyone tells you to wear.

My college was next to an assisted living facility and one time we went over there to draw people’s portraits so we could get practice drawing older people. The lady I was drawing idly told me that she “dealt quite handily with her first husband” while making a stabbing gesture. Five minutes later she requested I make sure not to draw her double chin. I honored that request.
So when I was a child my grandmother told all these great stories about growing up in the Alaskan wilderness. Amazing bad ass stories about her and my great-grandmother. I recently asked my mom why my great-grandmother moved from Texas to Alaska in the first place. Turns out my Great-grandfather was abusive to my great grandmother for years and she lived with that until the first time he hit my grandmother, who was like three at the time, my great-grandmother got him very drunk and beat him to death then moved to Alaska to hide from the cops.

My mom is a gastroenterologist and she once told me that the old wives’ tale of people who died of "stopped digestion” was pretty much made up to cover up for women who got fed up with their abusive husbands and slipped some rat poison into their dinner (esp in rural areas). Local doctors knew who these men were (everyone knew) and the community pretty much nodded along when the death certificate said natural causes. The widow would dress in black for a couple years and basically go on with her life.
