if you insist that anyone making queer art must be openly, loudly queer, or else it is some form of faking/baiting/etc for clout, you are a bizarre individual and i do not like you

i am a trans woman but i do not believe that the experiences of being a trans woman is so fundamentally and intrinsically alien that, say, a straight cis person couldn’t at least understand me on some level

the insistence that media written by an “outsider” cannot be beautifully understanding and profound just because they haven’t lived a specific experience is absurd. people love toy story but absolutely no one is an actual toy. people love shit with wizards and dragons but no one can cast spells and no one lives in fantasy worlds. a fundamental aspect of fiction is learning to engage with the author’s “what if?"s and insisting that every person to ever write a story must have been part of that story leads to a lot of boring fucking stories.

i guess for a personal example, Simon vs. the Homo-Sapien Agenda is a book written by a straight woman from my understanding. Apparently it gets a lot of flak online for some reason? In no way do I feel like that invalidates the comfort I got from reading a story about me, a closeted queer kid who’s only expressions of my sexuality coming from online spaces at the time. The author may not have literally lived my experiences, but it was the first time I read a book and went "oh my god, that’s me” on the level I felt when I read that book all in one night. Insisting that the queer experience is SO alien and different that there’s no possibility someone unlike us could EVER understand us is just a way to prevent people from ever attempting to understand and empathize in the first place.

i believe the person who wrote that book was forced to come out of the closet as bisexual due to the harassment they got from people doing exactly what you described in the original post

In addition to leading to harassment against queers for not being out enough for your liking and insisting that queer experiences are so alien no cishet could ever understand our bizarre freakish alien inhuman ways, this also has the fun side effect of giving bigots a bulletproof excuse to not have any queer characters: they don’t want to be harassed. They may secretly be thinking “I hate all of you” but they can tell their friends “I just don’t want to be harassed” and tell their fans “oh I don’t want to misrepresent the queer experience!” and the end result is 0 queer characters.

Okay, but I’ve seen this argument thrown around for years, and I never believed it because it’s been pushed into my brain since I was a child by my extremely Christian parents that abortion is fundamentally evil because it goes against the Bible. But I’m taking a 2nd Wave Feminism course and I finally found out that this is actually 100% true? Until the Reagan campaign and associated Republican politicians tried to find another social issue to sway Southerners, especially Southern women, in their favor, abortion was not a primary issue for churches. It was only when feminists started mobilizing and, as a result, many institutions such as the Catholic church tried to mobilize against them that churches started advocating against abortion. Abortion did not become an issue of morality for the right until the 70s. Before then, abortion was simply not discussed because most things relating to sex weren’t publicly discussed. So no, according to popular belief, the argument that abortions are killing babies did not always exist, it was just an argument crafted when the Republican party needed another social group to oppress for political points

Not every republican supports Donald Trump. Some of them hate him too. It’s easier for them to blame democrats instead of admitting that the republican party is at war with itself. You have to consider that the call might be coming from inside the house.

Republicans are notorious for their inaction on gun control. They get big donations from the NRA. Apparently, it was just never a thought that these weapons could be pointed at them too.

A lot of the reblogs were good but this one stood out to me the most and I agree so much. I can’t take DNIs or the people who use them seriously anymore because they’re either an essay long, they have something really dumb and specific, or people expect you to treat it like the law. Also the culture surrounding them in general is just really toxic. I think in theory and to some extent they can work?? like yeah if its an 18+ account minors SHOULDN’T interact.

The internet will never be able to cater to everyone’s needs and wants. Sometimes DNIs actually will encourage the people on there to purposely interact/troll you. Trust me, the block button will become your best friend once you start using it. It has worked 10x better for me than a DNI list ever did and really helps your mental health. That or y'know, just ignore content/people that upset you.

A lot of the people involved in DNI culture come off as pretentious assholes like the blue character did. And honestly, I’d ignore them too like Pega, nobody wants to hang out with someone whose obsessed with trying to figure out if everyone around them is “evil” and breaking their holy list. God forbid you break one rule in their bible and they will find every possible way to cancel you.

Block. Just use the block button. I don’t know why a lot of people insist on crying and screaming and fighting. Just, let it go. Take a breather, go outside, and relax. Because nobody in the real world acts like this. And for the love of god, just hit the button.
