What do you mean people don’t know tumblr already had daily limits on posts and stuff. Are you telling me people on this hellsite have never known the limits of this place and now suddenly it’s a problem when it’s existed for years?

Like…Seriously. Don’t panic just because premium doubles the daily limit. The daily limit has always existed. It’s been a thing. It’s not a new thing. I say this as someone who’s been here since 2012. Please don’t act like it’s suddenly a new thing it’s not. Xkit even has a way to see the limits!

About how many times have you actually hit post limit?

“I don’t know what your motivations are for voting against Biden” well let’s start with open, joyful genocide and move down the list from there

You’ve got letting covid run rampant and spreading right-wing antimask rhetoric to even the most progressive of liberals, funding the police even more and encouraging police brutailty and more against students protesting Palestinian genocide, every campaign promise broken or completely unfulfilled (e.g. there are even more kids in more cages now), a complete lack of trying to cut the Republicans off at the pass should these do-nothing democrats inevitably lose the election for their unpopular policy and abandonment of their voter base, and so on and so forth.

Don’t forget:

- promising to increase the minimum wage to $15 and doing so only for employees of the federal government (and in your announcement openly admitting that women, queer people, and people of color are paid less than anyone else in YOUR GOVERNMENT AGENCIES THAT YOU RUN)

- “compromising” on trans student athletes, saying that schools are allowed to ban individual trans kids whenever they think there might be an issue (keep this in mind if you support Biden on the basis that he’ll be better for trans people)

- furthering funding and research for the surveillance state, especially further empowering operations at Pine Gap (the top secret spy facility in Australia run by the USA that’s responsible for almost all of our intelligence and guidance systems operating in the middle east)

this post’s hypothetical by itself is already ridiculous but the thing that gets me is how the wording implies two very funny things that become funnier in tandem

1. “Accidentally, the pitcher tosses a Christian baby” means this is a mistake on the pitcher’s part. i imagine the pitcher is breastfeeding on the field and they pitch and they look down at their hands and they see the ball still in the glove and they go “fuck”

2. hitting the baby will still win you the game

An apparently unpopular opinion: disabled people can have and do their hobbies. They deserve to have fun. They deserve to live their lives.

Their inability to do some things (like work, for example) does not mean they should be judged for… idk hanging out with their friends or to going outside. After all, having interests outside of work is often essential to our mental and physical health OUTSIDE of our disability.

And also *you might want to sit down for this* disabled people know what’s disabling for them (unless they people-please or push through due to necessity or survival of some sort). Disabilities don’t have to be visible or persistent to be disabling.

So yeah - my declaration: if an activity you want to do feels good and you’re able to do it, then do it. REGARDLESS OF YOUR DISABILITY WITH OTHER THINGS.

are donuts and bagels convergent or divergent evolution ?

Convergent, their doughs are different, they’re baked different, but they evolved to scratch the itch of wanting to eat something with a hole

is that historically correct ? because they could have come from a common ancestor which split to have two different doughs. so what I’m asking you is: which came first, the dough or the hole ?

The dough, there’s others like those (sorry I’ll have to mix german words in here)

Deep fried Hefeteig (doughnut dough) has always been a long standing tradition (Kräppel, Fastnetsküchle, und weiteres Siedegebäck)

The more bready bagels probably followed the footsteps of the popular doughnut while staying true to the original dough.

so did they originally have the hole, or did they evolve to have the hole ? are you saying bagels were inspired by doughnuts and were just pieces of bread before ? if one did not exist without the hole, and did not exist before the other, then such would imply a divergent evolution

It’s more like when a harmless insect evolves colouring to look like a hornet.

The doughnut is just one in a long, long line of fried doughs and came first. And also not all doughnuts have holes. I mostly only see them in American media. Most doughnuts where I live are bun-shaped with a jam or custard filling. They’re still doughnuts.

I don’t know about the history of bagels, but there are others dense cake-like breads that are similar, but serve a very different purpose here.

I’d guess that the bagel is native to the US, and the American sub-species of doughnut started to converge on form in order to mimic the indigenous stock, but then found it’s own niche and diverged radically in terms of colouration and topping.

bagels are native to poland and date back long before the Americas were known about to the rest of the world

I stand corrected. I will have to do more research.

My prof was like ‘yeah there was this experiment where they like made a casino for rats with mini slot machines n everything and made those rats into gambling addicts it was so cool’ n i looked up the article n hes the lead fucking researcher

I’ll do you one better op, i was taking an american history class of the early 1990s to 2000s and upon our final, which only took two hours max (the class was 3) our professor said we could watch some americana stuff if we needed to wait for more finals in the building (i did). The classroom was a huge lecture hall with a projector. He puts on stuff about cryptids, which, that’s a surprise but hey, nice light mood for a sobering look at what amounted to pre and post 9/11 america. And when the man on the video introduced the world expert on the jersey devil who do we see grinning at the camera, giant on the projector, but our professor. We turn to see him making the exact same face. We went wild.

My engineering 101 professor put on a documentary once about some renovations the government did on the Hoover Dam and it was more or less interesting even though I couldn’t tell you now what actually happened in it. But like maybe a little more than halfway through when they got done with the history and introducing The Problem they interviewed the top engineers working on the project.

And you’ll never guess who was up first. You’ll never guess whos face (albiet, maybe 20 or so years younger) was projected up on the screen for the entire class (maybe 8 or 9 in total of us) to collectively point at. And my professor (This old guy who’s doing this teaching intro to engineering as part of his retirement), doesn’t even look up as he continues to grade our latest assignment to say: “that was a fun project.”

“fish don’t even know theyre wet” and? you don’t even know youre luft (air equivalent of wet)

This is a really good example of how we can just make up words that work. “Luft” is a perfect word for this it feels correct and we understand and can feel it.

Like it would’ve necessarily work with other words but “luft” is a combination of sounds that means luft (air equivalent of wet).

Thank you but the reason it works is because it is a deliberately chosen word!

The closest word we have in English for ‘wet but with air’ would be ‘aerated’, which is the past principle of the verb ‘aerate’. As a multi syllable Latin derived word, aerated wouldn’t feel equivalent to wet even if you just used it as an adjective in a sentence- so to have something that feels like ‘wet’ I looked for a monosyllabic air-related word with a German root.

As many have pointed out in the notes, ‘Luft’ means air in a lot of languages, because it comes from the proto-Germanic word ‘luftuz’. It’s also used in English as a chess term, and is a doublet of ‘loft’. Because it’s rare in conversational English but has the right etymology to evoke the idea of air and the texture of ‘wet’, it is very easily appropriated for the concept of ‘air equivalent of wet’.

Elyia is a country that had a socialist revolution a few decades earlier than those in the real world did and had a less one-sided conflict between its “socialist factions” leading to a fairly different outcome when combined with less external pressure.

And the MMA stands for Multiverse Management Agency which is the organisation that oversees universes and multiverses, insures that they’re safe from Corruption etc.
