Friendly reminder that if you see something bad or stressful on the internet you can ignore it. If you see something bad that’s trending you don’t have to click on it.
Your mental health comes first. This is going out specifically and especially to all my fellow hyper-empathetic people out there. If you know that going down a rabbit hole of information on a specific horrible topic is going to make you depressed or feel like crap then you don’t have to interact with that.
In this day and age where we have access to the internet and information about soooooo many different horrible things it can be so easy to get sucked in to all of it. We have wars, we have constant natural disasters (there’s a massive fire close to where I live right now, it’s barely contained, and is rivaling the fire we had a few years ago that destroyed an entire town. It’s terrifying), we have beloved creators being accused and revealed to have done horrible things (the fact that I can say this and multiple names immediately pop into my head sickens me).
The point is, take a break. Get off the internet. Breathe. Go for a walk. Maybe look at videos of cute baby animals, or compilations of “restore your faith in humanity.” Go read a book. Eat something you like. Take a nap. Drink some water. Take a shower. Take care of yourself and don’t allow yourself to drown in the dread.
And for the people who might come at me for this saying “how dare you not care about the problems going on or the pain other people are in!” That’s the problem. It’s not that I don’t care, the problem is thatI care too much. Please refer back to the hyper-empathetic part of this message. I am a sympathetic crier. I will allow myself to get so sucked in to an issue and I will end up feeling terrible about it. I won’t want to leave my bed, I feel like crying and throwing up and there is an everlasting pit in my stomach the size of Alaska. I am no help to anyone in a state like that, and neither is anyone else. I will say it again, take care of yourself and your mental health first.
There’s a reason on planes they tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others.
heyyy hot takes at 4am time but like what is wrong with people?? we just received really huge awful news, let people have some time to process???
i just saw someone saying anyone upset about the neil gaiman thing because of what it means for good omens, something they loved deeply, is a “fucking monster”
like, good for you for never having anything you love be revealed to be made by an awful person, i guess?
of course we should be supporting and believing the victims, but people can be upset about things for more than one reason? and talking about one of those things doesn’t negate the other? (like right now, i’m specifically talking about the situation in the context of assholes online acting like they’re so much better then fans who are upset, and that doesn’t mean i think we shouldn’t be centering the victims and what they’ve gone through)
it took me a really long time to (mostly) get over harry potter because it was a huge part of me and something i cared about very deeply. even as a victim of jkr’s vitriol myself. now im at the point where thinking about the situation only hurts a little bit, but it took me like a year or even longer to get there. the neil gaiman news is less than 24 hours old at this point.
just, be nicer to good omens fans right now please. mourning something you loved so much it felt like a part of you doesn’t make you automatically selfish.
and if this kind of thing hasn’t happened to you yet, just know that any human is capable of terrible things like this, and that means any of your favorite creators. if one of them ever gets revealed to be a horrible person, i hope people are nicer to you about it then they are being right now.
note: i also saw a couple people saying stuff like “well yall should have dropped him ages ago when he was revealed to be a zionist/be creepy towards younger fans/write women characters really badly/etc.” and like yeah, that’s not great, but i didn’t know any of that stuff? i feel like a lot of discourse would be solved if people just remembered that the worlds a big place and just cause you know something doesn’t mean everyone does. it’s not a moral failing to have never been informed about something (also, i haven’t personally found any actual evidence of him being a zionist, just people claiming he is)
very upsetting that as a society thighs and tummies have been demonized. like they are literally just body parts and if they’re a little rounder it’s no big deal. beauty standards = pure embodiment of evil in this world
the people rbing this like tummy’s and thighs are cute and squishy uwu that’s not the point of this post like. i’m saying i want body neutrality…i wish having a tummy and having round thighs was neutral…. like don’t tell me you want to squish my tummy bc it’s sooo cute. that makes me feel like an animal in a petting zoo. i wish we as a society could treat bodies that aren’t model-thin as normal and deserving of respect
what is it with tiktok tradwives and the worst cooking known to mankind? like where in the bible does it say that it's a cardinal sin to season your food?
1. You ate that burger so fast. You ate that burger so fucking fast and now the whole Red Robin is staring at you god what the fuck
2. You started eating like a normal person, but then you started talking or daydreaming and now the waitress is handing you the check but you’ve still got half a plate of cold fettuccine
3. You were going to go out to eat, but then you saw a video in your YouTube recommendation that drew you towards it like moth to a flame, and now it’s 10 pm and you’ve got an empty bag of tortilla chips in your hand and shame in your heart
4. Mac And Cheese
5. You got engrossed in a project, suddenly you feel like you’re going to die, or faint, or both? Oh. you’re hungry.
6. You’re hungry. But every food you can think of sounds disgusting. Time for your 15th day of lunchables for breakfast in a row.
7. The food you’ve been obsessively eating for the past 2 weeks and you relied on is now the grossest thing you could put in your mouth
“shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story’s deep themes” and “some people can’t grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication” are two statements that can coexist
Hey look, it only took a month but my notifs went quiet again. I need to spark an argument uhhh @totally-bing how does it feel to know that the only people who use you are fictional
the same way i imagine you feel when people enjoy your ai feature. nothing, because it doesn’t happen
as an indian person, my favourite thing is seeing what people who aren’t from here have done with my food; i’ll go to an indian restaurant in a random corner of the world and they’re putting oregano in their palak paneer or a balsamic wash on their naan and it’s like “yes good tell me how you folded your culture into mine and came out with something new and lovely, we’re holding hands across oceans bestie”
Before everybody realized it was really dumb and didn’t work, there was a short period of time where cavalry in full plate armor rode into battle with a carbine and a sword. Historians widely regard this era as “rad as hell” and describe the tactic as “totally fucking sick, like, holy shit, could you imagine?”
theres a popular brand in canada called no name brand and it manufactures everything you can imagine in a grocery store and it kind of makes me feel like im in a world no one bothered to do much world building for
being a little kid was so funny bc you could literally just say somethint like “I think everybody should get along and share :-)” and all the adults in your life would go oh GODDDD STUUUPIIIIDD!!!!!!!! STUPID FUCKING KID ALERT!! Don’t uou know when you grow up you have to face the Government Mandated 100000 Wild boar Attack
This has the same energy as a writer desperately trying to make their insanely cool but devastatingly off the wall plot point work with the rest of the story
theres a popular brand in canada called no name brand and it manufactures everything you can imagine in a grocery store and it kind of makes me feel like im in a world no one bothered to do much world building for
be snobbish and thoughtful about all art indiscriminately
“it’s not that deep” you have no fucking clue how deep it is
I want to agree with this so bad, but
Like, ok, small thing big- that’s cool, fragile thing hard- weird and cool fine, childhood wonder and nostalgia- cool sure, but that’s all Jeff Koons does! Balloon dogs.
What am I missing?
This is going to sound cliche, but try and expand on what you’re feeling. Does it feature a nostalgic subject or does it actually manage to feel nostalgic? Does the ambiguous material provoke frustration in you? Do you want to touch it? You might be left cold, but that’s an entirely different well to fall down. Try and say the same thing again, but longer. Grab the feeling by its cheeks and pull them apart, look between the kerning of your text. Bullshit your way into it until you find something true. Look up the artist, look up his contemporaries, gain context, shade your opinions to give them depth and definition.
Note, my post didn’t say “All art is good.” Sometimes being snobbish and thoughtful means being critical, but good criticism is a form of respect. It’s a form of self-love, to give your base thoughts a body.
It’s also perfectly fine if a piece of art doesn’t speak to you. A lot of it just won’t, for whatever reason. It’s fine if a piece of art comes across as boring, or dull, or…just there.
Work can be technically demanding and still not “it” for you. Just don’t let the experience of “this one piece didn’t work for me” color your perspective of the artist, style, or medium.
i wish people didn’t make it seem like your options for medically transitioning as a nb/gq person are “do nothing” or “the binary opposite of whatever you started with”
#genuinely curious though: what are your other options?#there is no androgynizing hormone#it is just T or E#if you’re talking about surgeries you are correct though
There is no “third hormone” but there are ways of going on HRT that are not the typical binary way.
Microdosing, for one, as well as going on HRT for a certain amount of time before stopping, which can leave you with certain effects but not others, or effects to a lesser degree. There’s also a certain class of medications (SERMs I believe?) which are popular with NB/GQs who have a naturally T-dominant body, because they block some of the effects of estrogen like breast growth (there may be something similar with testosterone but if there is I can’t remember it).
You can take e without taking t blockers. You can use monoxidil for hair growth and not take t. You can take t and finasteride (which blocks dht and so prevents things like bottom growth and baldness). You can maybe use t cream (cream! not gel) applied locally to get bottom growth but less of the other effects of t. You can take t and get laser hair removal on your face if you dont like facial hair. You can get top surgery without taking t at all. You can get electrolysis and not do feminizing hrt at all.
Christmas fact: “fancy Santa” figurines are not artistic license, but rather, representations of Santa Claus’ rarely used “powered up” form.
Pictured: Santa’s “Super Santa Level 2″ transformation
Is this the form he used in the Krampus arc?
No, Super Santa Level 2 wasn’t introduced until the King Grinch arc. He mostly relied on the Holiday Spirit technique when fighting Krampus:
(The Holiday Spirit technique was later retired due to the toll it took on his body, though it makes a brief reappearance during his battle with the Tooth Fairy in the 1997 OAV.)
I was blown away by the manga-only Cosmic Santa form he attained during the final battle with Jack Frost:
Seeing him tap into the Christmas wishes of all the world’s children to power up his Silver Jolly Happy Soul Rod Attack really made me tear up.
I’ve always wondered whether his Cosmic Form is REALLY all white or if that’s just because the manga’s black & white. Sure, there’s the cover of volume 17 that shows it as white, but it also shows Mrs. Claus’s ceremonial Christmas Eve gown as pure white when we KNOW that’s not true:
And the elves get a white variation of their uniform on that cover too? So I don’t think we can count the cover as strictly canon. I keep hoping we get an OVA remake of the Jack Frost arc that actually follows the manga so we can see Cosmic Form in action. Maybe if the fighting game sells well and shows there’s still an audience for classic manga?
idk y’all should treat fat men better. and i don’t mean mildly chubby guys i mean honest-to-god love-handles-and-double-chins fat guys. stop calling them shit like discord mods or gross weebs or nasty creeps or neckbeards or that they’re stinky or sweaty or beer bellied or whatever else. fatphobia isn’t cute, even repackaged in a neat little box of “ew men”
Hey this extends to bald guys and short guys. I see so much “men aren’t shamed for their bodies like women are” and while yeah it’s not the same, it still definitely happens.
zionists and israeli leaders can say shit like “anyone waving a Palestinian flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth” and some of yall still out here discussing if “from the river to the sea” is antisemitic 😭😭😭😭😭
actual quote i did not make this up
is this not what you would call “a call for violence”???
honestly advertising is so fukcing wasteful not even just in the convincing you to buy shit you never actually wanted but like
how much electricity is wasted displaying ads that could’ve gone to keeping houses warm. How much paper is produced just to be turned into pamphlets and ads that will just be thrown away. how much internet bandwith is wasted just on the amount of ads that are on the internet nowadays. How many hours worth of labor went into producing ads that are going directly into my adblocker or my waste bin that could’ve been time spent doing literally ANYTHING useful?
I spent like 5 hours editing this gif frame by frame to make this shitty edit that I wanted to exist
@neonicclover your tag gave me a chuckle because if I was a sensible digital artist you would be right, but Im actually an insane traditional artist who is too used to working without layers, so no. There was never a version with just the F because I did the removing of the original text and addition of my own text all directly onto the original frame layers.
HOWEVER. There is this version that I made by accident which does a bounce loop right before the text appears
F
oh hey hope i’m not derailing from this very good post but check out this emote i made for my old roommate groupchat after we marathoned the spy kids trilogy a few years ago
One of my sister’s friends posted something about her attic being creepy and it ended up getting 50k notes as everyone argued about why it was creepy, whether it was real, and if it was actually just perfectly reasonable.
Candace would have dozens of posts like that with her describing some crazy shenanigans of her brothers and a couple weirdly out of focus pics attached.
They’d blow up initially with people scoffing about how dumb it is but then someone pipes up with “oh yeah the rocket race around the world was crazy when they came through our town”. And suddenly other people are adding their own photos or reblogs.
Sadly when Candice thinks she has proof and shows her mom, Tumblr’s search function tells her they can’t find any records of her own post.
you arent going to be capable of any meaningful kind of solidarity with anyone if your response to new perspectives or information is to pretend you already knew.
if you cant say things like “i hadnt thought about it that way” or “thats a good point” (or even, god forbid “thanks for checking me on that”) when theyre appropriate, consider whether youre actually interested in developing your understanding or if youre just invested in your political self image.
(also people generally can tell if ur lying and its embarrassing + failure to admit fault will make you profoundly spiritually brittle btw)
taking off a mask to reveal what lies beneath as a romantic gesture is overdone, and besides i want to see the romantic or even platonic potential of protecting someone’s identity beneath the mask, without any expectation of ever being allowed to see what’s under it. picking it up and holding it gently to their face when it’s knocked off and they’re in danger of being exposed, without trying to catch a glimpse of what they “really” look like under there. throwing yourself in front of them to hide them from view while they put themselves back together without taking advantage or looking back to see what you’re protecting. learning to read them by body language, tone of voice, and behaviour so well that you never need to see their face to feel like you know and understand them.
and needless to say. the mask stays on during sex.
Because it’s happened to us on a trek, if you see abandoned clothes, stop and search for anyone nearby. Late-stage hypotherima causes a thing called paradoxical undressing where the person feels too hot and starts taking their clothes off.
for a little bit of an order for this if it isn’t obvious: Take any wet clothes off (including sweaty clothes!! underlayers can become soaked with sweat while working in the cold and lead to hypothermia later) BEFORE you wrap the person in warm dry blankets/clothing.
Also I cannot stress the ‘do not rub’ thing enough. If you have a frozen steak, let it thaw a little bit and then give it a good rub. Take a peek at it via a hand lens. You’ll see tons of little cuts/gashes. That’s from the ice crystals cutting into the flesh. NEVER rub the skin of a hypothermia/extreme cold exposed person to warm them up unless you want the same damn thing happening to their flesh.
Don’t warm the extremities (hands/feet) too quickly. Not only would it be extremely painful, but the vessels in said extremities opening too quickly can lead to shock (part of the direct heat issue).
This deserves another reblog
For writers, AND real life, as places get VERY cold with limited heating being allowed to the people…
Unfortunately, my friend Eddie’s situation has continued to deteriorate rapidly and he is now facing eviction. So I’m giving Eddie’s GoFundMe campaign another bump: https://gofund.me/e5e0a610.
Eddie is a talented artist (you can see an example of his work on the GoFundMe) and a kind person who’s taken responsibility for pets his former housemates have abandoned despite his own difficult situation. It’s been heartbreaking to watch him struggle for more than a year to survive against the odds while people in his area have stolen parts off of his car, vandalized his property with homophobic slurs, and even broken into his home and garden on more than one occasion.
If you’re able to make even a small donation of $5 or $20, or to share Eddie’s GoFundMe campaign with your networks, I would be incredibly grateful for your support in helping him to move to a more tolerant area where he can live in safety. Thank you to anyone who read this far. ♥️
