A tip for excellent writing I just learned: Don’t introduce a character with their Dramatic Backstory. It makes readers go “oh alright this is the Dramatic Background Story Character” and establishes a baseline of Tragic, either for the story as a whole or this character in particular. With no contrast of light and dark, pure darkness isn’t impactful, it just looks like the absence of anything to look at.
If you really want someone’s dramatic backstory to hit the audience like a gut punch, let them get to know the character first. That way the dark backstory doesn’t come off as a description of who they are, but an explanation to why they are the way they are. Bonus points for connecting it to something that’s already been established as a part of the character - what a devastating blow to suddenly put together that hold on, that funny quirky thing that they always do is a fucking trauma response.

If you live in the EU are or an EU citizen and your account gets deleted for any reason you think isn’t justified, please consider doing the following:
1. Make sure to collect evidence of what happened on your end.
2. Contact Tumblr support and tell them you are requesting your data under the GDPR and that as part of the request you want them to state what specific personal data they collected justified the deletion of your account. If they refuse to do either, state that they are under a legal obligation to provide this data to you, that they should forward your request to and put you in contact with their “Data Protections Officer”, and that if they do not comply, you will alert the relevant “Data Protection Authority”.
3. If in step 2 they showed evidence of some kind of discrimination or did not furnish reasonable information, or you suspect they are lying, do the following: Find either the data protection authority (DPA) of your country of residence or that of Ireland (may be a better choice if your government discriminates against queer people) on the EU website, on the website of the DPA you should be able to find guidance on how to submit a complaint. Try to follow their guidelines but also make sure that in your complaint you state that: your account was unjustifiably deleted, what measures you took under step 2, and what Tumblr responded with.
Basically your goal with the above should be to get Tumblr to show that they either had no reason to delete your account or discriminated against you when deleting it. With substantiated claims, the DPA can essentially force the company to fix their behaviour (reinstate your account) and if there is a pattern, the DPA may fine the company. You can also usually claim monetary compensation (including for e.g emotional damage) for such discrimination or other violations of the GDPR in small claims or similar court (contact a lawyer in your jurisdiction, there are quite a few that offer consumers advice who don’t charge fees unless you win compensation).
ttrpg player pro tip- just tell your GM when you have a plot in mind for your character. Ask for events to happen. Walk up and say “I want my evil brother to show up and be a huge fight and I try to save him from himself.” Your GM will ADORE having a whole encounter outlined for her, you’ll get to have an awesome scene play out, you’ll be invested, your GM will be invested, it’ll be memorable. Hopefully, just don’t be foreceful.
The idea that you and your GM will be able to like, psychically intuit each other’s ideas for character arcs is bullshit. This is a collaborative relationship; communicate!!
Also get comfortable undoing shit if you’re the DM. If you made an off-hand comment that didn’t fit the world you want to weave or if you realized an event would have long-term consequences you don’t want. You can just pause and tell everyone “wait I changed my mind, forget I said that! it didn’t happen.” and go back to the previous scene.
Ultimately ttrpgs should be a fun play time; ask yourself if you’re following invisible rules, and if those rules help or hinder your game experience.

Ok so: I’m cis female but had this problem, in that I could never get them to cut my hair short enough. I eventually found ways to get them to cooperate though - and this was with hair I was sporting from 15-23, so you can probably get them to take you seriously. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of these tips will involve recognizing that you’ve already been misgendered and voluntarily running with that.
First of all, just go to a barbershop instead of a hair salon, if you can. It’s cheaper anyway, and you’re far more likely to get what you want from either a place where every employee has ten tattoos minimum, or from someone who’s mis-aging you not misgendering you
Barring that, e.g. If there’s only one shop nearby or your parents control where you go, pick the stylist with the wildest hair or most tattoos
If you can do so, make yourself sound like a huge lesbian the whole time. I could never get a middle aged white woman to actually take clippers my head if I hadn’t already talked about my (usually imaginary) girlfriend
If you like having your hair clipped/shaved, find out what numbers they use on you next time someone does it right, then tell everyone moving forward. Some still won’t believe you, but saying “I want a 2 into a 5” was always a lot more effective than “I want it shaved up”
Don’t tell them it’s fine until it is. I know this is something we’re socialized into accepting but this is true regardless of who you are and what hair cut you’re getting. If you’re not satisfied, say so. So what if they get annoyed? They’re not doing their job right. You’re paying for a service, you deserve it done the way you want.
On a related note, bribery will get you everywhere. If you live in a place where tipping is normal, and you can afford it, then come prepared with extra cash. If they do it right without you complaining, tip them well and say “hey, you’re the only stylist who’s actually listened, thank you.” If they need more convincing - especially if your parents are the ones paying and you know they’re trying not to piss them off - pull out a $10 or so and go “look, seriously, I will tip you extra if you just cut it boy-short”. It motivated a few ladies for me, when it was an option.
If all else fails, make up a reason you need it that short. You’re playing a character in the school play. You want to piss off your parents/ex/sister. Protest. “My friend has cancer and I want to make her feel less alone”. Yeah, lying sucks, but sometimes you gotta.

As a real life stylist I cannot stress this enough. This is the most important part of the cut because if you’re smiling in the chair and crying at home it means I’m not doing my job.
And I also second the barber shop for the first haircut because once you come in with short hair and tell a stylist you want it shaved back down the majority of them won’t hesitate.
