recently learned my coworker and one of my friends dont know what botulism is, and now im wondering if theyre outliers or if this is my Weird Kid showing through so
do you know what botulism is (Knowing What Botulism Is in this case is described as knowing the concept, how to identify and avoid it in a household context, not necessarily all the scientific parts of what it is and what it can do) and where did you learn about it?
😰 the amount of ppl who dont know what botulism is so far is legit scaring me. please look it up, you cant always tell if something has botulism in it, but when it Definitely has botulism in it its very easy to tell. educate yourselves and stay safe 🩷
These bitches complaining that botulism is so scary but literally no one is actually educating anyone SMH.
BOTULISM TL;DR :
WHAT IT IS
Botulism is a nasty fucking illness that can straight up fucking kill you and it begins in your damn food. You can also get it in your open wounds and babies can get it too, but this is mostly about the food kind of botulism.
Specifically: preserved (jams and and pickles and shit), fermented (kimchi, beer) or canned food. Basically if it’s sealed, it is at risk.
(Also not really related but I felt obligated to mention that heroin users are at risk of botulism, specifically black tar heroin. So as always, test your drugs, dont share needles and tell cops nothing but doctors EVERYTHING. You’re protected by HIPPA.)
WHAT IT DOES
Botulism has a lotta symptoms, they happen anywhere from 12 to 36 hours after ingestion of sketchy ass food. But that’s all dependant on how much toxin was ingested. They can happen sooner or later.
Just copy pasted from the Mayo clinic.
Symptoms of foodborne botulism include:
Trouble swallowing or speaking
Dry mouth
Facial weakness on both sides of the face
Blurred or double vision
Drooping eyelids
Trouble breathing
Nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps
Paralysis
If you have these symptoms after eating something funny looking, go the the ER. FAST!
HOW TF DO I TELL IF MY SHIT HAS BOTULISM IN IT
You can’t see or smell or teste botulism. (BTW don’t try to see if food went bad by tasting it, that is always a HORRENDOUS idea). But you can tell that *Something* went wrong in general with your food if it’s showing these characteristics:
the container is leaking, bulging, or swollen
the container looks damaged, cracked, or abnormal
the container spurts liquid or foam when opened
the food is discolored, moldy, or smells bad
If it is something canned or jarred, and it starts to look sus, don’t take the chance. Throw it out. And keep anything in a can or jar in the refrigerator DIRECTLY AND IMMEDIATELY after opening and try to finish it within a week of opening it.
IM CONSIDERING MAKING MY OWN PRESERVES CAUSE IM A NERD / I WANNA KNOW MORE ABOUT BOTULISM / I DONT TRUST A SINGLE TUMBLR POST BY A RANDOM INTERNET USER (objectively correct) / IM BALD / RESSOURCES

PLEASE DO NOT FUCK AROUND WITH BOTULISM. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR OWN PRESERVES YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT AND RESEARCH BOTULISM. BOTULISM IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND DEADLY DISEASE THAT IS EASILY PREVENTABLE WITH PROPER INFORMATION.
When I got Leshy in my cult for the first time I immediately dressed him in the spring tunic and all his horrible little baby monster noises just fuckn stole my heart
It’s a rough world out there for people who were teenagers during the exact slice of gaming history where indie video games had become feasible to develop and distribute globally, but the definition of “indie” didn’t yet encompass corporate studios and million-dollar budgets. They’ll tell you their favourite game when they were a kid was, like, a point-and-click visual novel whose protagonist dreams they’re a vast formless sea monster that learns about the concept of colours after finding a discarded helium balloon, or a hypertext fiction/precision platformer hybrid exploring gender as a mechanism of social control, and you think they’re either being pretentious or deliberately fucking with you, but no, that’s just what the indie gaming scene was like for a couple of years there. The sea monster thing got a front-page feature on the same site that made Bloons Tower Defense a household name – it was literally played by millions of people.
“He Would Not Fucking Say That” is whatever to me. For me it’s always “He Would Not Fucking LOOK Like That”. Why does he have abs. Why is he dehydrated. Someone help him

People will be like ‘hypervisibility is a privilege’ and then the privilege is having a former U.S. president use 'Palestinian’ as an insult against the current one and absolutely no consequences are incurred as it instead becomes encouraged when everyone starts using it as such or not taking something like this seriously whatsoever.
“Israel needs to finish the job” <- thank you for the hypervisibility privilege.
Becoming like a Palestinian = “A very bad thing” + “A very sad thing” + “A very dangerous thing”.
This is the common lexicon. Don’t ever fool yourself into thinking that because people are talking about us that this is somehow a privilege. Look at what they’re saying.
it’s really weird having a first dog be blind and then getting a second who can see…like how was I supposed to be prepared for this.
this creature can perceive when I put the treats up on the high shelf. or when I hide stuff behind my back. I can’t fool her!! she’s always watching me and she shouldn’t have this much knowledge!!!
I walk around at night and I shine my flash light directly into her eyes and I’ll just be standing there staring at her weird blue orbs for like 5 seconds until I realize it’s probably extremely annoying to her, because she has eyes!! I’ll turn on the light in the room and she gruffs and grumbles like ?? oh right!! light wakes you up!! the fuck??
the absolutely wild implication of this, that god was previously playing fast and loose with his own acts of good and evil but then had to start being considerate about what he was doing because now mankind is watching and we know.
God’s worst mistake was opening our eyes and mouths, for now we can turn to him and name his sins

You’re interviewing as a software engineer and you sit down to begin a coding exercise via remote video chat. Your interviewer joins a minute late. You exchange light pleasantries, then intros. They ask you a few questions relevant to your experience and you answer them satisfactorily.
The interviewer says, “Right, lets move on to the coding exercise,” and directs you to a collaborative coding website. You select your language of choice and they begin to describe your problem.
“You have an array of souls recently liberated from their mortal shell, represented by this array of signed floats called "theDead”. You must design a function that determines which souls go to heaven and which souls go to hell,“
"Heaven and hell are empty. The cumulative value of all the souls in heaven and hell must both be nonzero, and exactly equal to each other. You may leave any number of souls in purgatory,”
“Your function must return a bool indicating whether the balance of heaven and hell can be met given the array of souls. The count of souls will be 0 < n < 1,000,000. Do you have any questions before you begin?”
“I didn’t and still don’t like making a cult of women’s knowledge, preening ourselves on knowing things men don’t know, women’s deep irrational wisdom, women’s instinctive knowledge of Nature, and so on. All that all too often merely reinforces the masculinist idea of women as primitive and inferior – women’s knowledge as elementary, primitive, always down below at the dark roots, while men get to cultivate and own the flowers and crops that come up into the light. But why should women keep talking baby talk while men get to grow up? Why should women feel blindly while men get to think?” - Ursula K. Le Guin
The good news that I’m finally in Egypt now with my youngest brother and the bad news is my mother and my other brother with his wife still in Rafah waiting to evacute to Egypt.

This seems to be the only time most thin people ever even see a glimpse of how deadly and widespread the oppression of fat people is. But usually the epiphany never actually happens. They just stay at the level of “Wow, everyone wants to be skinny SO bad! And some people even hurt themselves to become skinny….because being skinny is so important to people. Huh…🤔 Eh, probably not important. Let’s go shopping at a store that doesn’t sell clothes to fat people!😁” I am begging people to get to the next level of the equation and finally see the fatphobia all around them that their fat friends and family members have been forced to endure their entire lives but never talked about before. Because we live in a world where oppressing fat people is that normalized and accepted. Not even fat people talk about fatphobia because the bigoted view that our existence is a “blight” on society is ingrained into us from the day we’re born.
Please don’t stop at the few downsides thin people have to their thin privilege (downsides that fat people also experience but at a worse rate). Please don’t stop thinking at solely the level of how fatphobia affects you. Please. Please care about us fat people who are actually being killed and mutilated and beaten and starved. Not just threatened with the potential. Fat people are literally being killed and murdered every day because of fatphobia, and no change will ever be made until people start talking about it.

this is a way better model… you’ll still get transphobic & intersexist drs of course but i prefer this to male / female or even having separate questions for gender & sex.
[we can’t see the full form, but i’d suggest having a “something else” option and dominant hormone question too.]
as a cis woman who’s had a hysterectomy and partial oophorectomy, this would be helpful for me, too! it’d be pointless to try to diagnose me for disorders that affect organs I don’t have anymore, after all.

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni “well thats different, what you protested was good and what they’re protesting is bad.” as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.
