The brain does not magically mature at 25. Actual neuroscientists note some 8-year-olds even have a greater “maturation index” than 25-year-olds. The myth misunderstands basic neuroscience but is still used for anti-trans policymaking like the Cass Report. https://slate.com/technology/2022/11/brain-development-25-year-old-mature-myth.html

Some Anti-AI banners i made, anyone is free to use them, no credit necessary. Light mode and Dark mode versions.

Art and writing and people’s rights need to be protected, and AI has been used already to steal, plagiarize, and be used to threaten people using deepfakes.

As an artist and a writer, it’s an insult to my craft to see AI “works” along side mine.

Like i said, anyone is welcome to save/put these banners on their blog, or on posts, please just reblog this if you do.

not “I hate it here” as in “I want to leave” but “I hate it here” as in “this is a list of the 50 counties in the whole united states with the lowest life expectancy and Kentucky is 14 of them”

this was jumping off from recent kentuckyposting, but if you’re american this list should radicalize you. It’s just a parade of the evils of this nation

The US county with the lowest average life expectancy (as of 2014) is Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota. It is a Native American reservation with a 92.9% Native American population. The average life expectancy there is 66.81 years.

If it were a country, it would rank below 150th in worldwide average life expectancy.

The second county on the list is Union County, Florida, at 67.57 years. It has a high prison population—one-third of the county’s population is incarcerated.

The list is dominated from there on by Native American reservations, counties in Mississippi with a 70%+ Black population, and Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia coal country.

the talk about art as something divine and mystical runs completely counter to reality: anyone can do it if they wanted to. its not a super power, its a skill. like handling a knife or power tools. anyone can do it.

this is a better conception of it and does more to properly value the creation art as a skill.

If you consider art to be the work of “genius” or “the divine” you inherently assume that the work involved in making art is inconsequential. as art is then viewed as something that happened via magic as opposed to something that happened through effort.

I work in gaming and do this all the time. I learnt long ago that no matter what games I name, when a guy demands I name what I’m playing, that they will shit on them.

So now I just make shit up when they try to “catch me out” and listen as they list how wrong I am and all the things wrong with something that doesn’t even exist. It’s a wonderful hobby and I heartily recommend it.

Anyway for those of you not enmeshed with tumblr’s transgender mycelial network, or otherwise on its periphery, basically every damn day of pride month another couple trans bloggers have gotten wiped, regardless of blog content, following, blog age, anything, and it shows no sign of slowing. In general it seems to be hitting transfems more liberally, but transmasc and nonbinary friends of mine have also been wiped for their steadfast solidarity or Just Cause. There’s also been an uptick in posts being almost immediately marked mature by community tags for no discernible reason beyond “Posting While Trans”. This is a time to stick together like goddamn epoxy resin. Vocally defend and support each other. Block and ignore any wretched cunt spreading callouts or stirring up shit. Make sure you have a way to talk to your friends beyond this site. Don’t buy badges, don’t blaze, cold shoulder the fuck out of mod blogs, and give voice to your discontent.

Kidding (2018)

This is called

Shaynas Sequence

a lot of people are tagging this with “film” and “movies” or talking about the magic of moviemaking but i really want to point out that Kidding is a TV show.

i feel it’s important to make this distinction because there’s a common (sometimes subconscious) thought that TV is a lesser form of digital art compared to film, but television, especially recently, has been phenomenal and it deserves proper credit as a storytelling medium, as well as a craft just as capable of amazing work like this

Seattle-area guaranteed basic income pilot gave low-income residents $500 a month to help reduce poverty. Employment in the group nearly doubled, and numerous unhoused residents secured housing.

The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County launched a 10-month guaranteed basic income pilot program with 102 participants in fall 2022. New findings by research firm Applied Inference reveal that the $5,000 total payments improved participants’ quality of life, housing, and employment outcomes.

Oh gosh look: another successful UBI pilot program.

Not only was employment doubled in the test group, their savings increased, and health & life insurance coverage tripled. Many participants got health insurance for the first time.

It’s time to roll this out nationwide and with more money. The return on investment is undeniable and would be huge if it applied to everyone.

my apologies if this has already been posted here but im sharing this. here is what someone said on twitter along w this image:

the central image text reads: “@everyone I HAVE BEEN RELIABLY INFORMED GUARDIAN JOURNALISTS ARE SNOOPING AROUND ASKING FOR TRANS PEOPLE TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT DIY HRT. THEY ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR UNDER-18S DOING DIY. SHOULDN’T NEED TO BE SAID, BUT DO. NOT. ENGAGE. SPREAD WIDELY. DO NOT ENGAGE. WE NEED THIS NOTICE SPREAD OUT VIA EVERY GRASSROOTS SUPPORT GROUP AND SOCIAL CIRCLE IN THE COUNTRY.

URGENT. IF THEY GET EVEN ONE TO TAKE PART IT BECOMES A NATIONAL CONVERSATION. TOP ALERT.

Guardian journos are apparently asking trans people about DIY. Trans followers: DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THEM. NOT A WORD.

I also know I’ve got cis mutuals who have written for the Guardian. Please know I’ve always thought less of you because of that.

reblogging to add the Trans Safety Network guidelines for media engagement

do not engage with the Guardian if you’re trans and a minor. do not speak with the Guardian on DIY HRT.

heck, unless the journalist is reputable and has a track record of good reporting on trans issues, do not speak with them about DIY HRT. seek out your local organisation if you are approached by a journalist.

I obviously can’t verify the screenshot, but the guardian is a toilet, and the guidelines for media engagement posted are worth reading.

It’s never worth engaging with an interviewer that has malicious intent. There’s no good point you can make that they can’t simply redact or spend an infinite amount of time figuring out how to spin in a negative. You’ve almost certainly seen some right wing interviewers who are so inept at this that they make themselves look bad, but even they’re not worth the risk talking to. Their base does not care at best, and it’ll help them at worst.

For the love of god stop

society if cis women realized they can talk about misogyny & reproductive justice without erasing trans people (because we are targets of misogyny as much as they are):

if you are a cis woman & you wanna talk about something like pregnancy in media, you can at least just say “i don’t have experience with trans perspectives on pregnancy, so i’m going talk from the perspective of a cis woman.” you don’t have to emphasize how “wellll for MOST people pregnancy is about being Female & tearing pregnancy is a Female-Specific Fear” im not even really asking for inclusion just Not acting like trans people are insignificant secondary victims?

“real people don’t talk like that” can be a valid criticism of a piece of media but it can also be one of the highest praises i can bestow. there’s nuance.

characters who articulate themselves like online self-help tutorials written by an AI generated command prompt or someone who has never spoken to a real life person in crisis: real people don’t talk like that (derogatory)

characters who talk like on some level they understand they’re participating in a performance and the limitations of language itself are a burden on their ability to express themselves and be understood: real people don’t talk like that (thrilled, delighted, jumping for joy)

Sometimes I think of how we went from the simple little line “you’re gonna love my boyfriend” in Paranorman (2012) which felt groundbreaking in children’s media at the time (and ticked off a fair number of people who consider lgbt+ content too ‘adult’ for children asfsdf)

To actual gay weddings in Steven Universe and Arthur, to openly gay and affectionate dads in She-Ra…

Progress for lgbt+ representation is slow and there’s always backlash and opposition. But it feels like there’s hope and I’m so happy lgbt+ and queer kids get to see themselves in media.
