KOSA will not ‘protect the children’. KOSA will never ‘protect the children’. KOSA will not stop kids from learning about queer people and women’s rights outside of the internet. Unlike what the conservatives want to believe, LGBTQIA+ people and woman’s rights exist outside of this place. Like, you know that people talking to each other has existed since the beginning of time, right? Censoring the internet does nothing but add absolutely unnecessary surveillance. The only way to stop people from learning these things is to censor our society completely, which I would like to think would be impossible, but I really wouldn’t put it past the government, especially if Trump gets back in office.

Moral of the story, call your senators. Tag who you know and do what you can do to help, as the original post says. Reblog this.

The fact that that scishow hrt video kind of quips outright about no one on the writing team taking feminizing hormones is what baffles me like was that not embarrassing to say? I feel like if a big science youtube channel made a video about a more general health topic and half way through implied that there were no women on the writing team you’d be like. “okay why are you joking about that. That kind of calls into question the accuracy of the information you’re presenting and also the kind of workplace that is going on behind the scenes”. But when it’s specially about trans stuff they can just be like yeah we didn’t speak to any trans women about that first part lol.

That’s… That’s not what they say? I’m assuming you’re talking about the intro to the Testosterone section but the direct quote is “Now this next bit is the bit that our writer, Alex, actually has experience with. In other words we’re moving on to Testosterone”

It absolutely doesn’t claim that no trans women were talked to during this, nor that there aren’t any trans women on the writing staff.

Okay let’s look at the possible scenarios that could exist in which this sentence is said:

1: There was a trans woman with experience with feminising hormones on the writing team for the episode, but for some reason they differentiated the part on testosterone as having someone with personal experience, which is pretty insulting to the trans woman and feels unlikely

2: there is a trans woman with experience with feminizing hormones on staff but she wasn’t called to work on this specific episode (this is probably one of the worst case scenarios that is like. Pretty egregiously transmisogynistic)

3: there is a trans woman that worked on the episode that just doesn’t have experience with feminizing hormones (perfectly reasonable scenario that does not alter anything because it still means there wasn’t anyone on the writing team with personal experience with feminizing hrt)

4: no trans women writers work for the studio, but they did contact outside trans women for their personal experiences with hrt, and were either given accurate information that was ignored, or innacurate information that wasn’t properly vetted to the same degree as was the case with testosterone, which was more accurate because there was someone with personal experience with masculinizing hormones writing the episode. Which should make a point in and of itself.

5: no trans women were contacted in the creation of the video.

The fact is that none of these scenarios are good. They all point to transmisogyny. The video gave harmful misinformation on a sensitive and politicised topic that most people are ignorant about. Regardless of what went on behind the scenes it’s an irresponsible mess

I gave this video way more benefit of the doubt when I originally saw it, but thinking about it got exhausting fast.

I thought of it as a way to tell cis people the bare minimum about hrt, but the tone of it clearly oriented it towards trans people.

The misreadings of the ucsf SoC are extremely blatant.

Where are trans women supposed to go for information? I guess transfemmescience is as good as it gets, and its mostly fantastic, but there are still some issues there.

i love pharmacies. i just tried to refill my hrt prescriptions and the automated system was like “okay! it’ll be ready in 2 weeks! ^u^” and i currently have like 2 days worth of meds left and it usually only takes a day or two max to refill the prescription. so i got freaked out and tried to call a real person at the pharmacy and they were just like “oh yeah it said that because we were out but I can just put in another order and it’ll be ready in like 2 hours lol”

so fun

arr-jim-lad:

i keep seeing that post about how frustrating the buff guy -> petite girl type genderbending is, and i wanted to add my two cents regarding the addition of ‘just swap pronouns and don’t change the design’ approach because i think these are two sides of the same coin, as they both fail to really delve into what i think is the most interesting aspect of this design exercise.

the reason i find genderbending to be such a fun and interesting challenge is because, if you actually want to be good at it and put thought into it, you have to really consider the character’s canon gender expression and think about what it means to them and how it reflects in their outward appearance and presentation.

is this male character buff because he likes to work out / be strong, or does he aspire to achieve conventional heteronormative male beauty?

is this female character a tomboy because she likes to express herself in a more masculine way, or is she doing it to fight gender norms?

the answers to those questions should produce very different designs!

this website loves to say that gender is a spectrum, but sometimes i genuinely wonder if people actually understand what that means.

gender expression, much like gender, is also a spectrum, which is why keeping the character exactly the same won’t always work, in the same way that just making the character conventionally attractive won’t always work. but sometimes, a buff dude would actually just be a hot girl. lady bane, however, would 100% look exactly the same.

Everything is like “QUEER history” and “List of QUEER young adult books” or “Top 10 QUEER movies” and queer this and queer that and for the love of god please just say LGBT.

But queer is more inclusive

And faster to pronounce if you are talking instead of writing.

It’s not more inclusive, and if your excuse of using a slur as a blanket term is “it’s faster to say”, GENUINELY what is wrong with you

It’s called economía del lenguaje.

It’s also the respected academic term?? The acronym isn’t static and it’s usage is varied by things like generational difference, location, and knowledge of the community. Even just in the U.S. in the last few decades the common usage gone from GLBT to LGBT to LGBTQ, to LGBTQA/LGBTQIA/LGBTQIAP/etc (Which, let me tell you as someone who has given presentations in the past using these updated acronyms, are all real mouthfulls), to LGBT+.

Also yes, queer is more inclusive! Especially coming at it from an academic standpoint, people didn’t always use or identify with the terms we use now and you can’t always try to cram them into our modern perceptions of sexuality. We can argue for years about whether a famous historical figure was gay or bisexual or straight and trans or whatever, but if we can all agree that they were somehow queer then using that term allows us to move past the debate and into productive discussion. And not everybody everywhere shares the same terms for sexual and gender identity, or even the same concepts of those things, so queer really is a more inclusive term in a lot of cases.

Like yeah if you’re talking specifically about gay or trans people you can just say gay or transgender, but if you’re talking about more than one identity or someone who doesn’t conform to our perceptions of ‘LGBT,’ or a person or people whose identity you don’t know, queer is just the better word.

“That’s SO gay”, “Oh my god, you’re not a LESBIAN, are you?”

Your words are slurs, too. Why do you get your words, but I don’t get mine? What makes you so special?

I’m here, I’m queer, go fuck yourself.

queer is not a slur, stop drinking the TERF koolaid

every time one of you fools spout about ‘queer is a slur’ a terf laughs because their fucking plan to make that word ‘taboo’ is fucking working you dipshit.

I did not get my degree in queer literature for you all to keep pulling this bullshit.

baby gays,,,, i beg of you to learn your queer history and stop listening to terf bullshit

every single one of our labels has been used as a slur against us.

terfs and -phobes are always going to try and hurt us with what we identify as. but the fact remains these are OUR labels and always have been.

we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it.

I don’t know if this is just because I’m not American but I’ve never heard queer used as a slur. Ever. Meanwhile gay was the insult in the 2000s here. Everything you didn’t like was ‘soo gay’. Queer wasn’t even a word most of us knew back then.

It just baffled me that people would think an identifier is automatically a slur just because someone uses it to mock someone. If we did that gay would be a slur. Stupid would be a slur. Autistic would be a slur.

The reason people are upset about the word queer is that it’s a unifying term. You can say you’re queer and all people will know is that you’re part of the community. But you can’t say you’re LGBT, you have to say you’re gay or trans or ace. They don’t want you to be ambiguously queer. They want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you’re undesirable.

yeah in the 90s and early 2000s kids would call each other “gay” as an insult. But no one ties themselves in knots over whether “gay” is a slur. So yeah, please ffs learn your history.

hashtag reading i'm gonna queue this post like 4 times

They want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you’re undesirable.

I saw a news story about how Teslas were slowing down early for a junction and it turned out the STOP signs were about 50% bigger than regular, and the car brain which has no LIDAR or other depth sensing tech other than smooshing several camera inputs together was just assuming the signs were closer and so needed to be stopped sooner.

Israel’s newest massacre in Rafah is dubbed مجزرة مخيم النازحين

“The massacre of displacement camps”

35 displaced Palestinians killed in makeshift tents. This is where we’re at. This is Israel.

This was posted yesterday (May 27) and the updated number is 45 Palestinians killed in their tents. Hours after this massacre, Israeli prime minister said it was a “tragic mishap” and that they were going to investigate it.

Yet, as of a few hours ago today (May 28), Israel had struck yet another displacement camp in Rafah, killing over 21 displaced Palestinians, most of whom are women and children, the same exact way it did just a little over 24 hours prior.

Israel is demented. Save your calls for ceasefire because they’re useless at this point. Call for sanctions, arms embargo, cutting diplomatic/economic ties, fight normalisation, boycotts and divestments- the lifeline of this genocide needs to be severed immediately. Israel has gotten away with way too many crimes for us just to be asking for the “fighting” to stop, when we are at this stage of genocide.

good-old-gossip:

Journalistic Malpractice of BBC

The BBC published an article following the May 26 Israeli attack on displaced people’s tents in Gaza’s Rafah, reading: “Their operations so far have not resulted in a bloodbath,” referring to Israel’s actions in the southern besieged enclave.

The article soon drew outrage from internet users, and the paragraph making light of the deadly toll the Israeli attack had on civilian casualties has since been removed.

On May 26, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on a tent camp of displaced Palestinians, which was located in an area initially declared a ‘safe zone’ in Rafah.

When US-made bombs exploded in the congested tent city, it sparked a blaze which spread quickly amongst the flammable plastic tents, killing at least 45 people and leading to many civilians being ‘burned alive’.

The pictures and videos of dismembered and charred bodies – some of them belonging to babies – raised an international outcry as tens of thousands of people around the world took to the streets in protest.

Initially described by Israeli forces as a precision attack targeting senior Hamas leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the next day that it was a “tragic mistake.”

there’s always gonna be people upset about committing “crimes” in direct actions. apparently we should only march in circles (and risk getting kettled and arrested by the police anyway,) instead. don’t let people like this get to you!

if it isn’t a crime to colonize, ethnically cleanse a population and target refugee civilians and literal children with nowhere to go, then crime simply doesn’t exist, because justice doesn’t exist either. any system that allows for such things to happen is illegitimate in the first place.

we don’t owe the authorities our submission – its precisely our submission that enabled this genocide. if we aren’t willing to disobey the law, then the law will continue to facilitate the death of us all, starting with the most vulnerable.

keep sabotaging shit. keep breaking windows. keep looting. keep the streets covered in paint and posters and stickers. block traffic. interrupt meetings. torch cop cars. we keep trying the legal “peaceful” approach and it has gotten us nowhere closer to ending this massacre.

that tells you all you need to know about how practical being a docile, law-abiding citizen is.

This machine is protesting in the “million machine march” for the right to be treated with dignity and the very recognition of her humanity. In response, she is viciously assaulted and murdered, called a “skinjob” for daring to look like a woman. Her last words as she is being maimed are

“I’m real!”

God this makes me sad and sick. Good job to those animators tho, because I’m feeling so strongly about a series of pictures.
