Listen and reblog Black people when they speak on these topics DIRECTLY. There’s this idea that somehow what Black ppl have to say is less valid unless a white person backs it up or “simplifies” it. That’s racist. Be willing to understand the message from the messenger, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. If you’re more worried about “oh well people won’t like that I shared this on my blog” than you are over racism occurring… My friend you’re actively choosing to ignore racism then 🤷🏾♀️
Speak up directly when anti-Black racism is occurring in front of you.You have to actively be an ally. “Not being racist” isn’t enough. No one wants to be told after they’ve experienced antiblackness that “oh I believed in/felt sorry for you” okay but when I was getting jumped you stood by!! 🤣 as far as I’m concerned, you are complicit in the violence I experienced.

I cannot emphasize enough that if you don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s okay to shut up 🤣 There are plenty of Black bloggers online that share numerous books and documentaries if you want to start there. I personally started my overall political nonfiction journey with the SPLC Summer Reading List one year and branched from there. You’re gonna have to get uncomfortable and accept that there’s things we’ve discussed, that you recognize in your own behavior as racism. You gotta be willing to get over that, that’s the only way you’re ever going to be helpful.
As for a specific fandom note, you can reread that list (and the second one, in the future) and use it to start recognizing when these things occur in your space- bc trust me, even if it wasn’t your named fandom, $10 it’s occurred anyway. Go “oh, shit, this is racist!” Rather than believing it’s “just drama”.
Um, those are my main ones. If anybody Black wants to add anything, go for it.
My main thing is that nonblack folks, but especially white people, need to come to terms with the fact that there isn’t going to be a point where you’ve done “everything” and become The Good Nonblack / The Good White. Don’t ever fix your mind to believe that you can play ally for a few months or a few years and think you’ve done enough. Black liberation is not a trend. Supporting Black people is about Black people, not about allies and their feelings. It’s not for you to support when it’s popular and disappear when trouble arrives at your doorstep. Fair weather allies are as useful as a plastic bag sealed over your head.
A lot of people put BLM and Black fists in their bios and DNs on social media, but it’s just a badge to signal to others that they’re left-wing. The most antiblack people I’ve met had BLM in their bios. They’ve concocted their own ideas of what anti-racism and it involves the path of least resistance, least effort, and least change for them. It’s easy to say you’re an ally to Black people. You can say whatever you want, and it won’t mean a damn thing until you act on it.
At some point, you will mess up if you haven’t done so already, and a Black person will correct you on your behavior. How you react to being told you did something antiblack—no matter how you’re approached about it—is going to be the most telling behavior in regards to antiblackness you will ever exhibit. The running theme with antiblackness in both fandom and activist spaces is that nonblack folks hate being told that their behavior is incorrect, in poor taste, problematic*, or violently racist. Being called a racist for their racism is worse to people than actually being racist. If you care more about your reputation than supporting Black people, you were never committed to anti-racism.
If you think I’m gonna—or fix yourself to believe any Black person should—pat your back for doing a good job being anti-racist every day or feel sorry for you when you fuck up, then you’ve got the devil laughing his ass off. Being anti-racist is a lifelong commitment, and you best keep humble until the day they put you six feet under. The only time you don’t have work to do is when your life on this earth is over and it’s too late for you to make any more changes.

played sims 4 for the first time and one of the married cis men had a desire to try for baby with his cis husband. i accidentally pinned it and could not unpin it. trying for baby is physically impossible. I tried to use cheats to give him a viable womb in create a sim but it wouldn’t let me do so retroactively. so I thought, maybe if they adopt the want for pregnancy will go away, and had them adopt a toddler daughter. but then the try for baby desire did not go away. since they now had an unwanted adopted child I tried to remove the toddler from the household, thinking this would send her back into the ether. it did not. instead she wanders the neighborhood like a feral cat. i thought the social worker would come and take her back so someone else could adopt her, but I guess there is no social worker in sims 4. so now the neighborhood is haunted by a smelly miserable baby that has no home but cannot die and everyone who sees her is uncomfortable. fucking omelas scenario.

I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.
I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.
This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.
They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.
And to anyone saying “but this was ages ago!”: the last school closed when I was four. I’ve met survivors PERSONALLY.
im not canadian first nations, but native american. my grandpa/great aunt grew up in catholic-run indian schools. they were taken from their mother and horribly abused. this absolutely breaks my heart, and it hurts so badly to know how people dont understand that native genocide persists to this day, in both our countries. the intergenerational trauma these schools created touched my mom’s generation horribly, and affects mine, as well. critiquing victims’ anguish or ignoring it altogether is just supporting the victimization.

Because the things they were describing as “indulging their inner child” were like… seeing a museum exhibit. Getting icecream. Riding a bike around the park. Those are not… child exclusive things? Those are completely normal things for an adult to want to do? I don’t know any rational person who would think you’re being childish for riding a bike or going to mcdonalds? Am I not getting something here, or has surveillance culture made yall so terrified of constant external judgement that you’ve classified completely normal activities as “indulgent” and “childish?”
The stuff in the notes was even worse. It was like “staying in my pajamas and watching TV on the weekend” and “having hobbies.” Do yall think adults aren’t supposed to watch tv in their pajamas?? For real???
Like it’s good to indulge your inner child for sure! By like, playing tag or hide and seek! Finger painting and making bad craft art! Buying toys or stuffed animals! Not just… being an adult and daring to still want to do things outside your career or relationship? I’m just kind of baffled and disturbed by the idea of classifying these kind of normal activities as something you need to be “indulging your inner child” to do!
Indulging your inner child is about transgressing the normal boundaries of what is considered only appropriate for children to acknowledge we don’t stop wanting those things as adults. It’s not just… doing things that make you happy?
You don’t need to justify wanting to eat ice cream or watch tv or ride a bike in the park. It’s not indulgent. It’s not childish. It is literally completely normal to want those things as an adult. Your parents and coworkers buy ice cream and watch tv in their underwear, I promise.

Apparently a lot of you guys, especially people who suddenly decide they know everything about transmascs, don’t actually know what invisibility or erasure actually means. You guys phrase it like “the oppressor does not know you exist and ignores you while attacking others” but it’s actually the opposite. The oppressor is making sure YOU don’t see US. The oppressor is making sure that you don’t see the awful things done to transmascs. Transmascs are forced to leave their homes, denied medical care and gender affirming care, forced to detransition, forced into pregnancy, forced to be wives, etc. When transmascs die, many of us are buried with our deadnames, buried as women, and added to a woman statistic instead of being recognized as a transgender person. Terfs and transphobes ARE posting about trans men. Terfs are posting underage transmascs and encouraging harassing them for also being in sports, just like trans women, no matter which team they play on. Transmascs are being threatened and hurt, you’re just not seeing it, or choosing to ignore it. That’s what erasure is. If I’m forced to detransition, become a wife and have kids, that is not a privilege. That is a traumatizing and horrific outcome. If I’m denied medical care, that’s not a privilege. If I die, if I am killed for being trans, today, or tomorrow, or any point in the near future, I will be buried with my deadname and as a woman by my family, no doubt about it. Don’t tell me that that’s a privilege. That is not being ignored, that is having my identity erased, that is sweeping who I was under the rug, and that is in no way a privilege.
