You people will just say anything you want about Korea, North or South.

Before I scuttle off, though, please ask yourself why articles like these that talk about birthrate or lack of 1st graders or whatever in South Korea almost never discusses the fact that recently, the far-right capitalist regime has made it even harder for couples to afford kids, or historically, the fact that the decline in birthrate being sharp coincides with far-right regime at enforcing lower birthrate + “democratic” regime’s neoliberalization in social welfare policies after the 1997 Asian financial collapse. It’s almost as if critique of capitalism and its tangible harmful impact on human lives is impossible to conceive of (no pun intended) for these people. Women aren’t “withholding reproductive labor,” yankee reading this from their shitty suburban dwelling. People can’t afford to see a gynecologist because the far-right regime modeled its social welfare policies after the USA’s social welfare policies.

I thought I was done with this post (and this addition probably won’t spread), but I wanted add one more thing that bothered me about the Other Post.

This isn’t even the age that kids start school in South Korea. If Korean cis women really did do this since 2019, the kids that enter first grade would be….

2-3 years under the age that they normally enter kindergarten (kids do not just pop out of the woman right after sex! You’d have to account for the 8-9 months of pregnancy!). So now, we have to look at what happened 8-9 years ago. So what did happen 8-9 years ago?

THAT’S RIGHT! IT’S ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT LABOR! Park Geun-hye’s awful far-right regime has made it impossible for Korean youth to even survive, let alone think about kids 9 years ago! Did you know that if you’re working 60+ hrs a week because you lost your benefits in your “contractor” job, you tend to stop having sex (or any other leisure life)? It’s always been about capitalism and its impact on human lives! Pretenidng otherwise is literally letting the capitalists hijack the narrative about their failure with flashy “causes” that do not line up! Reject any “analysis” that ignore the actual, tangible material causes to the phenomena in favor of sensationalism! It’s like a key dangling in front of your face!

What I’d give for one of the Cinderella remakes to go into how when you’re in an isolated and abusive situation, sometimes you need to be saved and you’re not weak if you can’t escape by yourself

I’ve never been a fan of bad faith reinterpretations of fairy tales, especially ones which flatten the originals into “princesses is saved by a prince and nothing else”, to then go #girlboss. The princess can save herself because she’s a strong female character! (Implying if you’re in a bad situation, it’s because you’re not strong enough to get out)

Also the concept of the Prince over the course of like… a couple hours hanging out with Cinderella  going from ‘Haha nice I really like you’ to ‘oh fuck i can tell from context clues alone that your home situation is FUCKED UP’   it’s good shit   ‘I have just met you but ON GOD I’m gonna get you out of there beautiful mystery woman’   cinderella  makes desperately yelling into the night ‘how can I find you again!??!’ when she’s taking off that much more poignant really

He’s been trained to read the room. To read the context clues. To read politics and scheming and planning and people. He’s a Prince, it’s either that or accidentally drink poison by age 15. And he reads her and …

She’s impossibly wealthy. The dress isn’t a fabric he can recognize, but it’s beaded with cut diamonds, faintly milky opals that shimmer with a rainbow, little pale aquamarines, and somewhere are little bells gently ringing with each step - he’s a Prince and he can’t afford to dress like that. The slippers ring too … there is nothing like that crafted by the hands of humans. That’s fairy stuff. She has an in with them that eclipses royal politics. She is powerful in the Old Ways.

All this wraps around the poorest woman he’s ever seen in his entire life, and he’s seen some very, very, poor people in his time.

Poor in money, but poor in “oh you poor thing!” as well. This is someone who has been robbed blind. This is someone who carried themselves waiting for the lash, for a browbeating, for harsh, cruel, abrupt, punishment.

He expects her to be haughty, or hard, or meek or… something else… but she’s just nice. She’s just … nice.

The rigid posture comes out of his back, his tongue unsticks. She’s like sitting by the embers of a low, calm, fire. He feels warmed and rested simply speaking to her. He wonders if it’s magic, and it might be, but if it is it is magic that is her own.

And that terrifies him, because he’s trained to see these things and he knows someone with a cruel hand is waiting to douse her, and snuff her, and beat the last glimmer out of her shining eyes - eyes that put that dress to shame and and and and… she’s gone.

Oh god, she’s gone. It will be all over her sweet, kind, warm face that she transgressed and … oh god they’ll kill her, whoever they are. This will embarrass them and if there’s anything he knows, it’s that you don’t humiliate someone who has power over you and walk away unscathed.

And all he has is a fairy slipper that will only ever fit her foot (it’s not merely shoe size, it’s a kind of spiritual fit as well), and the vain hope that he can keep such a bright light from burning out. It doesn’t even touch his heart that what he’s feeling is a kind of pure philia, not until it enraptures him soul to bones, all at once. Oh god, oh no, oh shit… he’s reached well above his station, but…he can try to be good and worthy.

The way he sees it, sometimes even the strongest people can be brought low and need just… a little help. She had enough in her to do whatever she had to do to free herself of those evil relations if she had to, but she shouldn’t have to. There’s no glory in blood. Sometimes it’s okay for the ending to be happily ever after.

After the White House cancelled the annual Iftar due to Arab and Muslim Americans collectively rejecting the invitations, the WH turned it into a small ‘meeting’ with six Muslim Americans including an Imam. Dr. Thaer Ahmad, a physician from Chicago who had traveled to Gaza earlier this year with a delegation of doctors, showed up and handed Biden a letter from an 8 year old girl in Gaza. He then walked out, saying “I wanted a chance to stand up and walk away from the people making decisions the way they are walking from my people.”

Another doctor who attended was taken aback when she showed Biden prints of photos of malnourished children and women in Gaza — to which Biden responded that he had seen those images before. The problem, the doctor said, was that she had printed the photos from her own iPhone.

"This speaks volumes to the dismissive nature of the administration when it comes to strong-willed action towards a permanent cease-fire or, at a bare minimum, a red line on the invasion of Rafah," Dr. Nahreen H. Ahmed told NBC News. ALT

Belle has Stockholm syndrome because she falls in love with the Beast, her kidnapper.

Woke:

Stockholm syndrome was coined to slander a woman who had been in a hostage situation but openly criticized the poor police response which recklessly put her in more danger and escalated the violence. She was then belittled and discredited publically by the police for this.

So. Yeah. Maybe Belle does have Stockholm syndrome actually.

If anyone is curious here is the wikipedia section describing this.

[ID: Gif image from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with Gaston leading a large group of villagers down the road holding a torch. The atmosphere is dark.

Wikipedia screenshot containing the following:

According to accounts by Kristin Enmark, one of the hostages, the police however was acting incompetently, with little care for the hostages’ safety, which forced the hostages to negotiate for their life and release with the robbers on their own. In the process the hostages saw the robbers behaving more rationally than police negotiators and therefore developed a deep distrust towards the latter. Enmark had criticized Bejerot specifically for endangering their lives by behaving aggressively and agitating the captors. She had criticized the police for pointing guns at the convicts while the hostages were in the line of fire and she had told news outlets that one of the captors tried to protect the hostages from being caught in the crossfire. She was also critical of prime minister Olof Palme, as she had negotiated with the captors for freedom, but the prime minister told her that she would have to content herself to die at her post rather than give in to the captors’ demands. Ultimately, Enmark explained she was more afraid of the police whose attitude seemed to be a much larger, direct threat to her life than the robbers.]

Hope the ID helps, it’s my first time writing one.

Excerpts from “See What You Made Me Do: The Dangers of Domestic Abuse That We Ignore, Explain Away, or Refuse to See” by Jess Hill

Here are some other facts you should know about Nils Bejerot: He had a major influence (this involved founding the “Swedish National Association for a Drug-free Society”) on Sweden’s zero-tolerance approach to drug use.

And he wrote “Barn, Serier, Samhälle” (Children, Comics, Society), basically the Swedish version of “Seduction of the Innocent”; an infamous anti-comics book by Fredric Wertham that led to the Comics Code Authority.

Bejerot described comic books as a “significant mental hygiene and cultural problem that concerns us all.”

This is the man who coined the phrase “Stockholm syndrome”, guys.

could you IMAGINE if jobs asked to see your tumblr ajsjskksksks the url alone is enough to disqualify half of you hoes let alone your blog descriptions

Put your LinkedIn profile AND ONLY YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE on your resume and if they ask for social media information refer them to your resume.  “Oh I’ve listed my relevant social media pages on my resume”

IF they ask for your twitter, facebook, or Instagram specifically tell them you’re not presently active on any of those accounts.  “Currently I’m not an active user of those sites”

Make sure you use pseudonyms on twitter and insta, don’t tag co-workers, and keep your facebook private.  Ask your friends not to tag you in their pictures either.

Never discuss work on your social media, never refer to your job by name, never tag your location when your going to/from work, and never ever discuss any difficulties with your job online.  Doing so will only ensure you get fired.

For the record, though- if you get consequences at work because of venting over social media, and you belong to a union, TELL THEM. The NLRB had the position that you should not be fired for venting online, and on that note, it’s yet another great reason to push for unionization- freedom of speech online without fear of occupational backlash. Some states also have laws that broaden what you’re allowed to say without fear of termination, so check your state legislature.

if you’re working/applying in a field that basically requires a social media presence, create a new one that uses your professional name and your professional name’s email address (do NOT use the same email address with your fannish nick) and get some professional account management software so you can establish an account that’s active like weekly with things like:

The USA was invented in a Hollywood set in 1985 for the hit film series Back To The Future. Over time, other authors added their own quirks to the setting, like New York in Home Alone and the expansive lore seen in Forrest Gump. The setting proved to be so popular that many other movies and TV Series were set in that fictional country and they’re still made even today; indeed, Wikipedia often has to edit articles mistakenly referencing it as a real country, a true testament to the enduring popularity of its worldbuilding.

They don’t talk about this enough, but i recently managed to seduce the governor into letting me pass a bill so that every street light in the state is outfitted with a new type of lightbulb that gives off an imperceptible but profoundly disturbing supersonic tone that causes insomnia and nightmares. This makes it easier for people to engage in risky behaviors such as unprotected sex to cope with the increased psychological stress. And thus the birthrate has skyrocketed, but not too much, since it’s offset with the new wave of strange and disturbing murders. But sure ok let’s ignore the achievements of women in STEM.

People who were spoiled as children (or are spoiled children) are usually depicted as unpleasant monsters who insist on getting their way always, and for sure they exist but I’ve also met a lot of spoiled people, children or adults, who were super nice and generous because they were brought up with the knowledge that if they let someone else have something or give away one of their possessions they’d just get another one and that carries over into adulthood where they might not get another one but they still don’t feel the same attachment to material things.

So in my experience whether spoiled people are unpleasant have more to do with the values instilled in them by their parents as well as their general personality. I know one boy who won’t give anyone anything despite his parents giving him everything he wants and another who will hand you his entire birthday cake if you ask because he trusts that you’ll share it with him and if not his mom will get him another.

So nice spoiled people in fiction like Carlotte from Princess and The Frog aren’t unrealistic but they are probably a lot less satisfying for a lot of people.

OP of the original post turned off reblogs but as of 3 hours ago 3/3/24 Deux Face is still alive and doing well!! According to the farm’s Facebook she is starting to try to stand and getting better at holding up her head. The farm has been very clear that they’re going to care for her and do their best to meet her needs, they are not planning to sell her or show her off to the media. They also haven’t mentioned any other noticeable deformities inside or out and have noted that both heads connect at the same throat, and she’s lived for about 5.5 days at this point which is shockingly long for an animal with this level of deformities. Go Deux Face!

Deux Face update 3/6!!

She is continuing to make “very slow but positive progress” to stand, managing to stand for a couple seconds a few times since the last update.

They also confirmed some fun facts: she breathes out of both noses at once and can see with all four eyes! There really are twice as many stars for little Deux Face.

Plus some new photos released by her farm :)

One of the most life-changing things I ever learned came from Mythbusters, where they tested and proved (with cognitive testing puzzles and reaction time tests) that lying down and resting with the intention to sleep STILL provided significant mental benefits over just staying awake, even if a person couldn’t fall asleep in the amount of time they had.

It helps me to actually sleep to know that just lying down with my eyes closed is still doing me some good, and helps me to not freak out/beat myself up when I stay up later than intended. Any amount of rest is better than no rest!

So if you didn’t know that…now you do

All you need in life is a color picker willing to expose you to the unbounded madness we call color vision.

me, absolutely clueless: “I want a color just like this one, but in red”
color picker: Fuck you think you are, a Mantis Shrimp? Don’t talk to me again until you can afford a wide gamut monitor.

what is even happening here 😨 wheres the circle with the triangle inside we all know and love..

The circle and triangle are a lie we tell ourselves to cope with the ugly reality… Now this– this is the real deal!

In seriousness, this is oklch.com, a color picker for the OKLCH color model.

There are whole several hour lectures one could take in color science and theory, but to keep it short: the set of colors we can see, the set of colors monitors can display, and the set of colors computers can model are three circles that only somewhat overlap.

In this case, if I wanted this color

but in red, I could just go of Photoshop and move over the hue slider, getting this as a result:

Which is.. acceptable, but not as “bright” and “vibrant” as the green I had. Looking at the graphs in the OKLCH color picker, we can figure out why:

It tells us that a red with the same luminosity and chroma as this green is out of gamut—that is, it cannot be displayed by this monitor.

In this case, you can use the edges of the graph to find the color that is closest to what you want. You can, for example, keep the chroma but sacrifice lightness,

keep the lightness but drop the chroma,

or a bit of both, which is what the common HSV triangles already do.

But I like to know when it happens, y'know?
