So, my spouse has been exploring his gender lately; he also just built himself a new laptop. Today he told me that he in an attempt to process some genderfeels through metaphor, he made a post on a trans forum along the lines of: “I’m a lifelong Windows user and I think I’m pretty good at it. I want to find out what Linux has to offer but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be any good at it. And how do you choose the right Linux distro, anyway? Do you have to try them all?”

Spouse (still he/him for now) recently decided to pick out some more feminine glasses – he was going for the librarian look, he said. He noted his pick was “subtle enough” he’d “probably” feel comfortable wearing them at work. Of course, he’s been wearing his old glasses while waiting for the new ones to be ready.
Well, today these two things happened while he was at work:
his old glasses snapped in half at the nose bridge, and
he got a call that his new glasses were ready for pickup, days earlier than expected.

I usually tend to wear contacts in school and often when I go outside, but I am currently wearing glasses and have been wearing them since the age of six!
Unpopular opinion but the reason being a teenager sucks is less to do with hormones and social cliques and more to do with the fact adults fucking hate teenagers. The fact that adults expect teenagers to be able to take on adult responsibilities yet don’t deserve rights of an adult. They don’t see teenagers as human beings and they aren’t prepared to see kids with their own formed identities and humanity. Teenagers are so sexualized and seen as needing to take on more and more adult responsibilities. Yet when they want rights and humanity they are denied. The years your brain spends wanting nothing more than to form an identity are being taken away from you. Teenagers are essentially being kicked out of social spaces unless they have an extra 40 dollars lying around anytime they want to go out. Teenagers being kicked out of the mall just for existing or groomed into the school to prison pipeline. And now creating legislation to keep them off the Internet. Our society hates teenagers. And does everything we can to hurt them. The fact that anyone makes it out of their teenage years without trauma is a fucking miracle frankly.

As an actual mom, I approve this message. If your parents say it’s a normal part of parenting, no. No it’s not. They are wrong.
As another actual mom, I also approve this message. The point is to have a good enough relationship with your kids that you know what’s going on in their lives WITHOUT going through their trash, because they talk to you and you don’t freak the fuck out.
I’ve had other moms ask me to tell them if I hear anything about their kid from my kid because “we moms have to stick together”… and no. I’m not ruining my relationship with my kid because you’ve trashed your relationship with yours. And I told my kid you asked. AND they shared more with me because of it. The only thing my mother did by taking my bedroom door was contribute to my already crippling fear of being seen in a state of undress, and the only thing she accomplished by going through my internet history was to push me into doing my browsing at school (and leave me with traumatic memories of having to plead that yes, the online source for college scholarships really was called FastWeb Portal, yes, I really was putting in three applications a day, please stop hitting me).
I will never forget when one of the neighborhood moms that I had presumed was safe ratted me out to my mom because I had posted some depressed poetry on my livejournal. I came home to my room utterly trashed. It looked like a tornado had blown through ONLY MY ROOM.
Desk chair broken, drawers ripped out of their dressers and smashed to pieces, my bookshelf ripped from its earthquake safe mooring on the wall, my bed destroyed, my sheet music torn to scraps, and my cats cowering under furniture on the far end of the house. I will never forget how my mother was more concerned with the fact that I made her look bad to the other moms for writing depressed poetry online than the fact that I was struggling with depression.
Now my mom wonders why I’m low-contct, and why I’ll only speak with her if Dad is also on the phone.

Being a lawyer is so wild because sometimes you will go into a case where the defendant’s cutie mark is literally a 1 for 1 photograph of the crime scene and you’d expect that to just be like catching a check but no the defense will say some nonsense like “a cutie mark cannot prove a pony guilty beyond a reasonable doubt” and like sure in most cases but this guy’s has the date the crime was committed in the corner. So anyways now I’ve gotta go into court for the second day of the most open and shut case of my life because the defendant pulled the “his calling could’ve been to help us find the real culprit in this case” card like that’s ever gonna happen.
