the intentional description of israel and gaza as ‘neighbors’ is misleading. israel is not palestine’s neighbor; this is a myth generated by the two state solution that has never materialized. israel is an occupier. it exists on top of palestine. people can be neighbors, and they once were until 1948, but settler colonial states cannot.

geographically speaking, israel and gaza are not neighbors, because israel occupies gaza and controls its airspace, sea and borders and has a dedicated civil registry and access to every single person living there. it is more accurate to consider israel superimposed upon gaza than a separate entity separated by a border.

socially speaking, israel and any part of palestine are also not neighbors, because israel occupies both gaza and the west bank. now of course israelis will differ on this, because they consider the very existence of palestinian neighborhoods and the palestinian authority to be a great generosity on their part—but neighbors who control your livelihood, who are hellbent on stealing your home, who invade your neighborhood with machine guns and soldiers are not neighbors in any sense of the word. they are aggressors and invaders.

the entirety of israel exists on the presumption that palestinians can either be out of sight or out of mind. but when they are not—when they are visible and when they are considered—they are demographic threats to be controlled and disposed of. palestinians are only neighbors when they fight back, and suddenly it is israel that has “neighbors that want to destroy it.”

this is nothing but another commentary on the issues with implying symmetry to israel and palestine, of the intellectual dishonesty of claiming it to be a conflict, etc. but i think it is helpful for visualization, because israelis are greatly deceived by their own claim that they are a small vulnerable country surrounded by hostile neighbors. they are a militarized settler colony implanted on top of palestinian corpses. they shouldn’t look to the horizon for their 'neighbours,’ they should look down.

When my great grandpa was on his deathbed my grandpa (his son) was with him and says his last words were “I told them they shouldn’t have hanged that woman. Well by damn they’re paying now” and no one in my family knows what the fuck that means

My grandmother was harassing me about the dangers of online dating, and my grandpa was like, “Oh fer crying out loud, leave her alone. My parents met online, she’ll be fine.” Apparenly my great grandparents were both telegraph operators who would chat over the line in between messages and fell in love and my great grandma moved halfway across the country to marry a dude she met over the telegraph.

No one alive in the family had ever heard this story until like 70+ years later when I happened to start seeing a dude from OK Cupid.

We were driving through Old Country once and my grandpa Sasha randomly went “oh this is where we blew up that bridge as kids, I guess it got rebuilt”

as my own direct immediate list of game grievances i hate that stardew valley expects you to side against a wheelchair user who is upset that he was moved without his consent. i hate that the mass effect trilogy gives you visible scarring as a direct result of choosing mean dialogue and heals it if you’re nice. i hate that the vampire the masquerade ttrpg has a monstrous player class that can appear as horrible vampiric monsters or as visibly disabled people and both of these appearances are mechanically the same. i hate that dark souls games have a difficulty level implemented in a way that cannot be adjusted for disability. i hate that i can play as a mermaid or a werewolf or a horse in the sims games but can’t use a wheelchair. i hate that the ace attorney games have so much flashing and not all of the games can disable it. i hate that disability is constantly something that happens to teach a lesson, i hate that disability is something that happens as a punishment, i hate that disability is either compensated perfectly with no drawbacks or something that is endlessly sought to be cured. i hate that no character customization will ever include the mobility aids i use, that the player avatars that represent me will never look like me. i am so goddamn annoyed and so goddamn tired.
