Also, worth noting that calling it “Holocaust denialism,” as Aye and Alejandra Carabello (and myself) have, is not hyperbole.
JK Rowling is denying that trans people were targetted by the Nazis, and promoting the tweets of known anti-trans activists screeching that any insistence that we were is “the LGBTQ+ lobby” revising history. That is, by a 2022 ruling on a case regarding similar tweets by the Regional Court of Cologne, (translation) “a denial of Nazi crimes.”
She is, by German court precedent, quite literally engaging in an element of Holocaust denial.
In case anyone is unfamiliar with the Nazis’ destruction of both gay and trans culture in Germany, Germany had a sympathetic gay and trans health clinic in the early 1900s. The Nazis destroyed it and burned literature studying homosexuality, gender noncomformity, and what we now understand to be transgenderness or transexuality. This took place only 3 months after Hitler came into power.
In addition to homosexuality, crossdressing was illegal under the Hitler regime even though trans people had (albeit limited) rights prior to his rise to power. And before anyone says it, the trans holocaust victims we talk about weren’t misidentified crossdressers, drag artists, or gender-nonconforming people. One trans woman, Liddy Barcroff, died in a concentration camp for her “crossdressing” after telling arresting police “my sense of my sex is fully and completely that of a woman.” The queer community, all of us, suffered huge losses both in individuals and in education and understanding during the Holocaust. Denying any part of that is offensive and dangerous.
It’s also important to add that the founder of that institute was Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, who was a gay Jew. This allowed Nazis to claim that Jews were promoting homosexuality to “destroy the family” and weaken the white race.
You know, pretty much exactly what Republicans are saying now, just in dogwhistles.

Just so ya’ll know. They’re gonna loophole this which is why we have to spread this information. I work at a pharmacy and I can tell you that a lot of these insurance companies only “Cover” them. Here’s what has been happening: You go to your doctor to get PrEP, they write a prescription and send it to the Pharmacy. When you get there they tell you that insurance isn’t covering it. You say that the law says that they have to. They say that it will, but not through THEM. The insurance company says that they’ll only cover it through a “specialty pharmacy” (which on the one hand, fair enough, NIOSH standards for drugs state that if you are handling the pills then there are specific forms of PPE you need that we at retail do not have, but on the other hand that doesn’t matter if we aren’t opening the freaking bottles) which will then either mail it to you or ship it to the pharmacy to take it out of the box, scan it in, and bag it. Which is what we’d do normally anyways except with the added step of making you wait 2-3 business days to get it. And because technically they “cover it” it’s not a law violation. But they’re hoping that you’ll not want to wait and just pay the $3000 out of pocket.

Important to note here that PreP can be prescribed after sex with an hiv-positive person, like a kind of morning after pill. It’s more effective if you are already on PreP before sex but taking it after still dramatically reduces the chance of transmission, provided you start taking it as fast as possible, which means definitely within 24-48 hours. So that’s waiting period? That’s going to force some people to either pay the full price or lose the window to prevent transmission after sex. That’s a big big deal.

cully pratt, chris pratt’s brother, a sergeant in the solano county sheriff’s department in california, openly supports the three-percenters, a far-right militia group with ties to the january 6th insurrection at the us capitol among other things, and posts their imagery online.
chris pratt hypes his brother, and has also been seen at public appearances wearing three-percenter symbols, thereby publicly endorsing this shit as well.
i’ve already seen people try to distance chris pratt from this, saying, “it’s his brother, not him!!” hate to break it to you, but when you are a famous person and use your platform to publicly display symbols endorsing far-right hate and white supremacy, that makes you culpable. he is at best completely ignorant, but that’s giving him a lot more credit than he deserves, frankly; even so, even if he actually is just ignorant, that definitely doesn’t give him a pass. there should be accountability no matter what.
This is one of my most asked questions so I am going to try and offer what advice I can. It certainly did not make any sense to me years ago and I would have liked a bit of help.
To preface this entire guide will be from the perspective of an artist attracting an audience for their work that is interested in buying and supporting their art.
Understanding and reaching the audience.
These are the people you want to see your work. If you are trying to create something commercially viable you must always keep the audience in mind. What matters to you is often lost on them and it is easy to lose track of that when you are emotionally involved in your work.
Everything I discuss from here on is centred around the audience and how they will potentially regard you and your artwork.
1. Time does not matter to the audience.
I see this brought up a lot. “I worked very hard for a long time on my art, someone else did not, why don’t people appreciate that.”
To be incredibly blunt, why should they? Two artists create two similar pieces of work. One took 3 days, one took 3 hours. Both are at the same technical level and a similar concept. Why should one be “worth” anything more to the audience, who only sees the end result.
Time rarely matters to the audience. An audience with no art background of any kind will find it very hard to judge how long someone spent on a piece of art (especially digital art) unless-
It’s very clear. A huge traditional painting for example, with something for scale. A linked video showing the process.
The artist states the time taken somewhere. Again, this is only really going to matter to the audience if it surprises them or justifies their own assumptions about the work. (It looks good, but they work quickly, how do they do it!)
I know there will be exceptions. People who really appreciate art will understand and recognise the time taken to create it. You aren’t leaving your success to exceptions though. You need to work with the majority.
Taking a long time to produce a piece of work only really informs your potential audience that they are going to have to wait a while to receive the content. If the work or the concept behind it are strong enough this is not a problem. It hurts an unknown artist trying to establish themselves though for the following reasons…
2. Your upload schedule.
People like consistency and the best way to capture any kind of audience in media is with quick regular uploads of content they are prepared for, are looking for or easily understand. I will list a few things that I feel an audience appreciates or deviates towards.
A regular upload schedule, be it daily, twice a week, even once a month. As long as it is clear. This is a great way to keep viewers coming back to you once they find your work and are happy with the content you appear to be providing.
The time you upload matters. If you post your artwork while the world is asleep no one is going to see it. On sites like tumblr this is even worse, hours can go by and your work will be pushed further and further down the audiences dashboard.
Consistent content. It’s great to try new stuff, but unless your audience knows you for it it could possibly confuse people browsing your page or site. Artists often get categorised as “The dude that draws X, Y Z” for a reason, it’s just easier for an audience to understand.
Do not add unnecessary comments to posts. Nothing puts people off more than 2 paragraphs of text explaining the process or a personal story on why it took so long. Save that for a separate post, consider that your audience needs to share your image. Make it as easy to share as possible.
3. Your content and the concept.
Content is important. Your finished artwork can be technically beautiful, but if there is nothing there for people to understand or relate to they will have no reason to care, or they will be purely judging your work on its level of technical ability.
That can only go so far if the content is too strange, specific or incomprehensible. Very few people are going to share a technically impressive piece of work if it disgusts confuses or upsets them in some other aspect.
Vice versa, a strong or interesting concept can take very simple artwork a very long way. The perfect storm is to have both a fantastic concept and strong artwork working together, but you must consider how much work that will mean you have to do and how fast can you do it. Find a balance.
What grabs an audience varies greatly. You can build up your own brand with your own ideas concepts and characters as long as there is a consistent theme. More often than not an audience will look for:
Things they recognise
Things they can understand at a glance
Things that are relevant to them and their lives
Consider these examples, try to consider which one has the most immediate appeal to the general public:
4. Make things easy for them, some important general advice.
Upload on as many sites as possible, and where appropriate. (No one on a website purely for webcomics is going to appreciate your oil paintings, for example).
Join forums, sign up for art sites. Get to know people and make contacts to get your work out there. Understand the audience on the sites you frequent and what content they do and don’t enjoy. This takes time, this does not happen overnight. You have to commit and find your own path here.
The audience will not just come to you. You need to be proactive. You have to get out there and find them, but be careful, nobody likes to feel like they’re being sold something.
Wherever you post your art, MAKE IT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO FIND AND SHARE! Tag, list and group your content. Tags allow people to find things they already like, make use of that. Give them as few reasons as possible not to share your content. Put yourself in the shoes of the audience and think about what they would and would not want to share with their friends and people that know them.
To conclude
I hope this will give some people who are really lost a few extra ideas when it comes to creating commercially viable content. It upsets me to say this but sometimes there are ideas that, no matter how beautifully illustrated or conceptually brilliant, will just not resonate with certain groups of people.
This is a sad reality, but if this is an issue for you don’t worry. Use this information to create content you know people will enjoy, make a profit from that and then when you have the time and money make the things you really want to make.

There’s my guide to the anatomy, but here’s some more tips that I’ve noted to myself that I’d like to include
First off, I’d like to just note on the fingers: if you pay close attention to your own hand, you may notice the fingers are ever ever so slightly curved inward. It’s a very subtle detail, but I noticed that, despite how slight it is, it can make a hand look more lively, and less stiff.
Second, the “M” on the palm! Your hand moves in many ways, and because it does it creates creases in your hand. The most prominent creases appear to make an M shape; this is handy to remember for what I’m going to talk about next. (It also could be a “W” I guess, or to be more specific a “ )X( “; just think of it in whatever way helps you remember!)
SO now that you see the M, draw your hand as a basic blocked shape and add your details. As you do, you can see that the M divides the palm into four basic parts!
When the hand moves, parts A, B, or C of the palm, alone or in different combos, will create the general poses that the hands do normally. These parts are the parts that move, with D being stationary, no matter what!
Here’s a chart of all the possible combos. Once you have down what part of the hand moves for a certain pose, you can change up the fingers and tweak it a bit to do what you need to make it more specific!
This is simply my method of drawing hands. God knows there are hundreds of tutorials out there by other artists, but personally, this way helps me the best (after learning the anatomy first).
This way I can divide the hand and combine the parts in any such way I need!
Hands take a lot of effort to grapple, and you need to practice them a lot, especially foreshortening of the hand; that’s really something you need to learn through your own studies. Look at your own hands, draw hands from life, from magazines, shows, comics; just draw hands! You’ll eventually figure out a method that works best for you. So to get better at drawing hands; draw hands!! And don’t stress over it, have fun with it!

it’s funny that this is getting notes again, because last night i went to the thai place in my neighborhood. it’s run by a family and during covid times i ate there literally almost every day. later i cut back on eating out so much and hadn’t been there in two years but last night we went and ate inside for the first time ever and the owner ran over to say hello and ask how i was, and repeated our old regular order. it was sweet. it’s so easy to feel like you are an island, but stuff like this reminds you that you are part of a community.
Being a regular is fucking awesome. I’ve only had that status a few times, but I always feel kind of honored. These people see humans all day every day, and they remembered me?! And not for something bad (as far as I can tell)! I’m flattered af!
You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that’s happened gradually, and which I’ve seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I’m not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it’s due to the homogenization of social media sites? There’s a lot more of this divide between “content creator” and “consumer” instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. “Asks” aren’t really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an “ask” on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
it’s probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it
but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.
