We don’t talk about acid rain because there isn’t any more acid rain because when acid rain started happening and we learned that the cause was mainly sulphur oxide and carbon monooxide from car exhausts, countries all over the world made it a law that car companies had to produce cars that produced less exhaust with better effectivenes (burning the fuel all the way to CO2 instead of the halfassed CO) and oil rafineries to remove the sulphur from the gasoline in the first place.
We don’t talk about computers crashing because of the turn of the century, because thousands of programmers worked very hard to write updates and patches for Every Single Program humanity as a whole used back in 1999 and then somehow managed to failtest, distribute, and update every single device and system, be it an online or offline one before the midnight of the 1st january of 2000.
On a much smaller scale, no one ever commenta or notices cleaners and housekeepers doing their job - be it at home or at whole buildings - because they always make sure that there’s nothing to notice. But don’t be fooled - at any point of your life you are one week of them not doing away from swimming in trash and filth with nothing to eat and nothing clean to wear. Only then you would notice.

So for this cisgender woman with naturally high testosterone (and/or an intersex condition, I do not know her specific condition and it’s honestly none of my business) has to be be forced to take the same testosterone suppressing medications that these same competitive regulatory committee said wasn’t good enough to suppress trans women’s testosterone to allow them to compete in women’s sports.
If she has naturally high testosterone, similar to that that trans women experience in their lives pre-transition then wouldn’t she have the same advantages that a trans woman supposedly inherently has and can not be corrected with said testosterone suppression?
Like, no one should have to undergo forced medical treatment to be able to compete or to make it “fair” for their competition. Other athletes have all kinds of natural advantages, like Michael Phelps having an abnormal wingspan and larger lungs and heart. For reference, i have a master’s in conservation biology and my bachelor’s degree in zoology was very heavily focused on ecology and fauna native to North America, but the system set up in the US is excellent for wildlife conservation and is what most people are suggesting when this topic comes up.

It’s also extremely hypocritical and colonial to tell African countries what they can and can’t do with their wildlife. The UK benefits hugely from trophy hunting tourism. Hunters from abroad will pay thousands to come to the UK to shoot deer, feral goats, pheasants, grouse and other gamebirds and waterfowl. It’s a big industry that’s very poorly regulated in the UK and often has detrimental impacts on native wildlife.
Why is it ok for the UK to have trophy hunting but not other countries, especially when they have proven to manage it so much better than we do? Should it not be up to African nations to decide what they do with their wildlife? What right do we in the UK have to tell other countries how to live alongside dangerous wild animals when we’ve exterminated all our megafauna and large predators?

looking at (vetted) gofundmes for people trying to escape palestine and i don’t know how many of you actually click on the gofundme links you reblog but i would like to point out, for what it’s worth, just how amazing it is that so many have raised so much money. it may overall feel like a drop in the ocean but the fact that several gofundmes have raised tens of thousands of dollars is amazing. it is so expensive to leave gaza right now, and people still need money after they escape. but regardless of what propaganda the US, UK, canada, and other western nations are trying to pump out, people across the world are doing what they can to help these people survive. many of them are still very far from their goals (like this one and this one and this one) and some of them are very close to high goals (like this one), and some of them have reached almost double their original goal.
and that’s not even addressing direct aid or organizations that take continuous donations for distribution of food, menstrual products, etc. the PCRF has raised $16,000,000 of their target goal of $20,000,000 to fund current aid and long-term relief efforts in gaza. ANERA’s febuary 13th update discusses the material ways they helped palestinians today:
my point is, it often feels like the world is turning a blind eye to palestine. but i would like to point out that there is an important difference between “the world” and “western political leaders and media narratives”. a breathtaking amount of real people, the people who make up the world, are trying to help. in the face of israel attempting to commit genocide, the world is saying No. These people deserve to live. and literally sending millions of dollars internationally, through the internet connection that israel has desperately been trying to destroy.
it may not feel like it matters in the grand scheme of things. but to the people who get fresh clothes, or a hot meal, or blankets, or the kids who get new toys, or to the people who are able to bring their families to safety, it matters to them. go make someone’s day better. i’ve linked so many options with ways to do that.
