Ahh compressed for our convenience, just what I like to see
why do i end up sitting straight up in my sleep. ignore how many blankets I use.
Bestie it is impossible to ignore the amount of blankets you use at first I assumed this was a meme and those were the layers of the crust of the earth
I actually have 4 more blankets I sometimes add but I didn’t want to make my blanket number look excessive
Are you okay
The results are inconclusive on that.
Bestie. the reason you end up sitting up is your lungs think you are being crushed.
The tories aren’t any better and they’re the only real alternative
That’s peak English voter thinking and it’s exactly why the UK is as shit as it is.
Classic Aye, always gotta find a way to shit on the English for being stuck in a shitty system that most of them didn’t vote for (a situation which is completely exculpatory but only when it applies to Scotland, apparently).
Look. Don’t vote for Labour if you’re in a safe seat. Absolutely. Do whatever you can to force them into an alliance or at least to stop taking left-wing votes for granted.
But if you’re in a Lab/Con marginal and you vote for a minority party, you’d better hope Labour ends up winning your constituency in spite of you, because even fewer of us will survive another Tory government than would a Labour one.
We’ve have over a decade of Tory rule because of England. It’s not ‘shitting on the English’ to point that out and I have the right, along with everyone else in the devolved nations, to be frustrated with that. We are powerless to stop it because of the Democratic deficit within the UK.
No, not all English people vote Tory. But there’s been a complete lack of rallying behind any party that’s pushed for proportional representation (and progressive policies for that matter)
Labour are doing so well in the polls because the Tories are shit. They have all but totally collapsed, and now the Tory voters in England feel comfortable voting Labour because Labour have shifted so far right.
I’m tired of seeing people look at the two parties with near identical policies and going ‘more of us will die under the Tories’ - that’s only true if labour opt for different policies and judging by the headline above that’s not going to be the case.
“peak English voter thinking” certainly comes across as shitting on he English, and I think if you dialed the self-righteousness down a bit you’d realise that. I agree that people have a right to be frustrated with the current state of affairs. I agree that people in the devolved nations have an especial right to be frustrated with it. I do not agree that a realistic assessment of what’s the case in most constituencies is “peak English voter thinking” that’s causing all the UK’s problems.
Yes, we need more people to vote for third parties to oppose the Lab/Con rightward ratchet. You will note that I explicitly recommended this. But in many constituencies, doing that at the next GE will split the left vote and bring in the Tories. It’s a shit system and we need to change it but you know what that means? It means we stop Only Doing Politics For General Elections. It means we need to actually put in the work to take councils, to build local party support, so that there will be fewer constituencies that are either safe for one of the big two or lab/con marginals.
It does not mean we talk exclusively about how bad those two are and how nobody should ever vote for either of them and harm-reduction thinking is fundamentally stupid or (implicitly-exclusively) English, with maybe a sprinkling of how one regional party is better. You know what those things do? They don’t encourage people to actually improve politics. They just get left-leaning people not to turn up at all.
I hope you’re proud of that, but I’m certainly not.
Speaking to Op here, for clarity’s sake:
I want to give more words to my opinion of this but I don’t have the mental energy, so imma keep this short
responding to ‘but we don’t have any other choice’ with 'english people say this all the time (derogatory)’ is… bad? It doesn’t… help? Or educate? Or accomplish any of the goals you have shown you care about, and which this blog is mostly about? It really does just come off as shitting on english voters? And pushing away leftist voters from voting altogether? Like it’s not practical?
Like, I know you have more cohesive feelings and opinions on practical efforts, I’ve seen you comment on them before. Would not a post you could link to about practical ways to change things be a better way of handling shit like this rather than what feels more like just… negging?
I genuinely wouldn’t say this if it were a personal blog, you’re a person, you’re allowed to not be completely professional in your entire life. But like… on a political blog, if you make comments like this, you’re going to push people away from voting which I’m pretty sure is not what you’re going for
I entirely agree. Unfortunately, this is one of Aye’s blind spots, I think — the understandable resentment over the general state of the UK and Scotland’s position within it, not to mention the incredibly obnoxious britnats he occasionally deals with, seem occasionally to sublimate into a general “England bad, Scotland good, everything bad is English voters’ fault, fuck 'em” attitude which can be useful for the specific cause of Scottish independence but isn’t great for things like Westminster elections.
It’s fine to analyse my blind spots or whatever. I’ve been running this blog for 10 years and it’s definitely made me a lot more jaded because I often get asked the same questions over and over.
My snarky comment there was deliberate and intentional. I’ve tried to take the tactical route and if I was in a better mood last night I’d probably have tried again. I normally talk about the alternatives and what strategy English voters can take.
Voters are going to sleepwalk into voting for Labour in the next election.
Labour who have said there will be no money for infrastructure projects, or public sector raises. Labour who are going to continue the privatisation of the NHS. Labour who’ve said the Tories haven’t been hard enough on immigration, who have dropped their support for trans rights, and who couldn’t stand with unions during the rail strikes.
Yes, I’m being flippant, of course not all English voters want things to stay as they are. Some of them will feel trapped and scared.
But when there’s examples of other parties in the devolved nations advocating for and actually doing different policies to make society a bit better - it’s frustrating as hell to say there’s no alternative.
There’s Greens & LibDems - England could do something great and force the hand of the two major parties to do deals. Even in Tory/Labour swing seats - there’s definitely enough of you to cause an upset. Also fight for proportional voting.
It’s all well and good to say we’ll focus on taking councils etc - but Westminster needs a boot up the arse, and electing a labour majority who will continue the exact same policies as the Tories isn’t going to help anyone.
We’ll be in the exact same position in 4 years time, except you’ll have more people disillusioned because Labour kept things as they are.
When those in power constantly lied about the little things, it isn’t hard to see why people have tuned out–and even questioned whether masks were even effective against the virus.
I think I’m literally never gonna be sick of this masterpiece. I think watching it on a loop for eight hours could fix me. Dancing’s what clears my soul. Dancing’s what makes me whole.
I just love that this very video is an accumulation of thousands of years worth of art made by people who have never met each other. The concept of this video was so completely unfathomable to every single artist who made the sculptures and yet they’ve all put something toward the creation of it.

Please don’t assume the worst possible intent out of strangers on the internet when whatever they’re saying could probably be taken relatively innocuously
I know we’re all on the lookout for dogwhistles (and that’s good, you should be) but assuming the worst out of everyone all the time is just… no way to live.
I wish that we would collectively actually engage with the problematic aspects of queer history instead of demanding they be disposed of.
I think it’s a result of a carceral system that removes criminals from our communities that people think in these black-and-white terms. Either a queer person from history was perfect and can be pinned to any argument to legitimize it, or they were evil, and we aren’t allowed to talk about them or acknowledge their queerness.
In general, I believe it is so much more useful to engage with the messy and uncomfortable things people from history did. I also think this engagement shouldn’t start with mentioning the harm the people caused and then end with disposing of said people.
Some alternatives I like:
Educating people about the problematic nature of the person while not distancing from them
Looking into the specifics of what harm was caused and doing opposing things (i.e. an author writing antisemitic tropes can be combatted with intentionally finding and uplifting a Jewish author taking down the tropes)
Take an inner inventory of ways you may perpetuate harm to the same community that the person in question did, and learn how to stop and repair that harm
Be an active ally to the people in your life who exist within the marginalization that the person in question contributed harm to
I suppose I am just tired of having a historical figure’s problematic nature being used as a “gotcha moment” in response to even mentioning their existence (often in posts that link to articles that mention and sometimes discuss in depth the exact problematic decisions said person made).
thank you warrior cats design blogs dedicated to drawing every single character without you there would be no art of my favorite 3 sentence having background characters
The idea of “western civilisation” as some sort of a homogenous monolith is definitely just a white supremacist dogwhistle, but the way these people talk about it makes it sound downright funny. This Unified White Culture that started in Ancient Greece and practices a religion that was born in the Southern Levant when a small doomsday cult escaped containment, and then there were vikings and shit and these are all just one unified People and Culture, despite of me having more mutual DNA with a neanderthal than a spaniard. Probably more mutual culture, too.
And then this spectacular glorious monolith empire is as fragile as a victorian orphan dying of tuberculosis. Must be protected from the slightest draft from any direction, at all costs, because unlike the cultures of countless diasporic peoples, the mighty Western Civilisation willdie if it is not at least a 90% majority at all times. Every three minutes there’s something new that is the harbinger of societal collapse, the beginning of the end, some sort of a slow-motion apocalypse caused by people saying stuff and doing things, and wearing clothes you don’t like.
“Sure you’re laughing now but where will you be when the barbarians are at the gates?” I’ll be at the gates, obviously. The faggots are coming and we have a trebuchet.
Watching the way some men are having a Very Normal Reaction to the term “pavement princess” is hilarious to me. I saw one guy make a tiktok where he showed his truck said “see, I put OFROADER stickers in three places and I went in this gravel road! It’s not a pavement princess!”
Pavement Princess is the name for a jacked up super truck, you know the ones, that really mostly only exist in suburban areas with custom paint jobs and the brightest LEDs you can buy on the market and pickup beds smaller than a Honda Acty. They’re gas guzzling, road destroying, pedestrian killing, ego-boosting machines.
And yes, the Cybertruck is absolutely a Pavement Princess.
Like, damn, maybe we finally do have a slur for cishet white men.
Why is it necessary that a piece of art “condemns” or “normalizes” something. Is it not enough for art to say “here are some fucked up people in some fucked up situations for your enjoyment”? The art doesn’t have to judge them and neither do you. It’s for your enjoyment.
“This art is Acceptable because it portrays the bad thing as BAD” “this art is Forbidden because it portrays the bad thing as GOOD” well fuckers I’m engaging with art that portrays the bad thing as A Spectacle. Come engage with me.

stabbing as a metaphor for penetration is great but when are we going to talk about pressing down on where someone is wounded to disarm them or just to be cruel while fighting. does nobody else care about the perverse intimacy of knowing exactly where to touch to overpower someone. the grotesque vulnerability of it. especially if you’re the one who wounded them in the first place.
I think a lot of alloros fundamentally misunderstand how being aro actually feels
I don’t go about my day as a hetro person who just happens to opt out of romance when it pops up
I’ve known i was different since before i even knew different was something i could be. Since i was like 12 or 13 I’ve known somehow what i was feeling was off compared to everyone around me. Growing up like that was fundamentally a queer experience for me, even if i wasn’t trans. In fact, i feel like my experiences being aro tie me closer to being queer than even my gender. While i can’t relate to everything in them, other queer coming of age stories do mirror my own aro coming of age. So to say that an aro person, regardless of their other identities, can’t be queer is just baffling to me.
I think a really good relationship dynamic is when one partner is an entirely absurd person and the other partner’s perpetual thought process is, “I adore you. Why are you like this? I’m going to kiss you at such length and with such fervor that you’ll get disoriented and stop being like this for five minutes and I can rest, for fuck’s sake.”
why do grooms get one boring black jacket and brides get the most jawdropping gowns ever like when i get married i want pearls and lace and a train is that too much to ask??
Hnn could you imagine.. a suit embroidered with baroque pearls… a LACE CAPE gently floating behind the groom… a fuckin sword..
oh my god…. your m i n d…. the wedding industry is quaking
Meanwhile in Scotland…
YO, there are SO MANY great groom outfits around the world where he is dressed all in silk, lace, gold, pearls and glitter, with capes and scarves, hats and stitchery and I find it so sad that most of these countries switch over to “suit”. Like, look at these handsome boys!

Here are some gay wedding additions:

Georgia
This last addition to this ^^^ is my genuinely my most favorite part!
I rb’d a different version of this and added other cultures (including that Georgian one – which, ftr, notes that these guys are Georgians in America, because if they’d worn those clothes [chokha] in Georgia as openly gay men having a gay wedding, there’s a not-insignificant chance they would’ve gotten killed, since gay men aren’t considered “real men” and only “real men” are deemed worthy of wearing chokha. Which I think is contextual information worth sharing here – that this isn’t just beautiful cultural garb but also a very deliberate act of defiance and pride using that clothing in the face of the intensely hypermasculine, homophobic culture it comes from).
Rb’ing this alternative version just because I love the inclusion of some of the other same-gender weddings.
I think we need to get more comfortable with the idea that sometimes shitty, racist, homophobic, bigoted people are still incredibly talented.
I feel like every time I see a post addressing someone’s shitty behavior the post also takes the time to mention that they’re not even good at [x] anyway. And that’s just not always true? Equating being good at a skill as being morally good is just not necessary. Someone can be a fantastic writer, can have a beautiful singing voice, can create breathtaking artwork, and still be a horrible person.
I know part of this is probably just the instinct to dislike everything about a person when you dislike them, but I also think this mindset leads to people defending creatives way past where they should, because if bad people create bad art, then if this person creates art that I like and resonates with me, then they can’t be a bad person!
And you know. That’s just not true. Those two things are simply completely unconnected and I think it’d be healthier if we all started disconnecting them in our heads.
Anyone wondering why your animals are looking a bit off, this is really useful. Sometimes it takes a long time to realise that even amoung the same families of animals, spines and hips and leg structures can have nuanced or heavy differences, and taking note of them improves the look of each species immeasurably.
Face shapes too. And as shown down the bottom, knowing your anatomy helps you to make really fucking sick-ass cool mythical creatures.
isn’t there a part of the bible where god gets mad at a fig tree for not having any figs on it and curses the fig tree?
yeah there legit is that’s 100% true
Yes.
Oh my god
last time we reblogged this we got anon hate from the christian community. You guys really are passionate about your figs.
I just love that they included this story like do you think Jesus and the Lads just retold that story every time they had a drink like “NEVER HAVE I EVER CURSED A FIG TREE” and Jesus is like “you GUYS”
