not to be a nerd but it’s so crazy how he (Bernini) really did that from cold hard stone……. truly a spectacle, truly breathtaking, an honor to behold
I think you should know he was 23 when he finished this and the ass gets a lot of attention but the hand on Persepina’s side/tummy is also exquisite
before i saw the caption I knew that HAD to be bernini.
I try not to make sweeping statements but I think there’s a case to be made for bernini as the greater sculptor there’s ever been.
here’s his bust of costanza bonarelli
here’s apollo and daphne from the front, where she’s mostly human
from the back, where she’s mostly tree
and details
this is the one art form I genuinely just cannot get my brain to accept as real. I’ve watched sped-up videos of it being done, read about it, seen in-progress marble statues and I still just can’t get it to sink in or stick. My mind doesn’t want to believe that any person has ever been able to start with a big block and break little bits off of it until it looks like a finely detailed person. At some point it has no recognizable shape and they still know where and how deep they should take a chip out of it that’ll still be the right decision 50,000 fucking chips later?!?
I’m up to the “I dunno maybe children working 13 hour shifts is bad, guys” part of Capital and it feels important to inform people that haven’t read it yet that capitalists in the 19th century were not by any means wringing their hands and twirling their mustaches about employing children to squeeze out profits, they were hiring “experts” to write newspaper articles for them, explaining how “well, the socialists have these big demands about an 8-hour work day, and taking Saturdays off, but it’s actually just so complicated, it’s too complicated for most people to understand, we just NEED to hire children for night shifts because the stamina of their strong, youthful bodies is the only way we can survive as a business! It’s science, you see. Economics doesn’t work like that, just ask our economics professors at Oxford. You CAN’T turn a profit only working people 8 hours! Trust the experts, they know. It’s just so complicated…”
That exact infuriating cadence that you read in New York Times articles, in the Atlantic Monthly, in the WaPo and all the other bourgeois rags where “everything is so complicated, and it’s actually a lot more complicated than you think..” that has been around since the beginning. It is nothing new. So the next time you see some op-ed from Matt Yglesias or any of those other guys huffing their own farts about how “complicated” everything is, and how “unrealistic” a 30-hour work week is, remember that Marx was dealing with that exact class of “intellectuals” “explaining” how working 13 hours at age 10 was “vital” to the “moral fibre” of those poor kids.
“it’s not queer fiction unless the queerness is explicitly declared in the text according to currently accepted terminology and in a way that meets the approval of the entire audience” I mean follow your heart I guess but I trust myself as a queer person to recognise queer themes
“but doesn’t this risk giving the author undue credit for queer representation” I do not care about the author
aromantic sisyphus is cursed to perpetually point out casual amatonormativity only for allos to suddenly go “um actually I’ve literally never meant it like that and YOU are the only who really hates platonic love if you think I meant it like that you crazy heartless bitch” the minute they feel called out
you can help free aromantic sisyphus from his curse! all you have to do is actually listen to aromantic people when we talk about amatonormativity instead of calling us delusional and insisting you know more about this issue than we do desperately literally never engaging with our issues at all
i hope you all know that this post is riffing on something someone left in my askbox a bit ago where they accused me of having a “shape fetish” like with no irony at all. because i draw art with Shapes in it
my unruly ass could NOTTTTT be in the same room as RECTANGULAR PRISM 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
People in the notes are saying they’re not sure if this is satire or not.
It very much is, and if you haven’t seen it before, it’s also referencing the famous ‘Gotcha’ comic by the same artist that riffs on obnoxious argumentative fallacies:
Kudos to the artist for making this asshat so fucking punchable that I actually want to yeet my phone to smash his face
maybe it’s not only misuse of therapy speak that is bad but therapy speak itself is bad. like even correctly (according to psychology) using terms like “narcissist” in reference to mental illness is stigmatizing
this isnt about dragons who are multiple at once, though. this is just about dragons who are all one thing and i just wanted to see which people would prefer out of those options
the best dragons are all three at once, same goes for dinosaurs actually now that I think about it
The best part is OP got fired because their boss asked why they weren’t “incorporating blockchain technology” into the video switcher they were building and OP straight up said “you have no idea what you’re talking about” and went to lunch
free socially awkward men from automatic association with incels
ironically the idea of incels being “losers” is exactly what they want people to think. they’re innocent victims of society because they’re not stereotypical disney movie jocks, and that’s why they have to…commit mass murder
I’ve got an inlaw who works in medicine who had a patient who was pissing BRIGHT blue, turns out they had a quack medicine enthusiast family member who was giving them methylene blue orally
I don’t know why this keeps happening but I keep meeting toxic heterosexual couples who experiment with polyamory and are heavily into funko pops, board games, Disney princesses and Burlesque stripping and the man is always a withdrawn bearded dude and the woman is always a passive aggressive control freak with an Etsy shop that sells lawn gnomes styled after Dr Who characters and they don’t really even seem to like each other but they’re always exactly the same. this has happened four times
I am so sick of schools going on about anti smoking and drugs policies. Like we’ve been taught this for years, we know this back to front. Do you know what we should be educated more on? Gender politics. Anti racism. Sexuality. The real world. Taxes. GENDER POLITICS. Instead of going on about the same shit every year and basing assemblies on them all the fucking time, educate us on stuff we don’t know about. Like youre supposed to.
