This is my half of “Unhealthy”, an essay comic double header with the lovely and talented Sarah Winifred Searle. She and I both wrote about our personal experiences as overweight ladies with eating disorders, and her story is breathtaking! You can buy a physical copy of the book here: https://topatoco.com/collections/abby-howard/products/ah-unhealthy
A comic by an inspiring woman, whose story mirrors much of my own.

Time to re-up this one. Virtual hugs to everyone out there who has been told they shouldn’t live unless they are ashamed of being fat. You should. Please, live.

Everyone should take the time to read this- but especially thin allies in the body positivity movement to end fatshaming who sympathize but haven’t experienced fatphobia directly. Great insight into the mindset of fat people who want to be healthy, but have bad relationships with food that have been pushed on them by society.
I relate to this so much… thankfully I never developed an eating disorder but those thoughts have plagued me all my life.
I remember seeing a post a couple months back of someone talking about printer troubles and companies making them bad deliberately, like pointlessly different screw sizes and a lying no-usb-compatibility sticker
If someone knows it please tell me, I’m pretty sure I remember it had good resources on a youtube channel that teaches you how to fix stuff!
Just a heads up to everyone that is the outdated version of the disability pride flag, that version was causing people eyestrain triggered migraines and in some cases risked seizures. So the original creator edited the design and the current disability pride flag looks like this

It’s less saturated and no longer has the lighting bolt like shape to it
an unfortunate side effect of growing up autistic is that everyone always mistook my bluntness for rudeness n now whenever I do any sort business communication I overcompensate for my default absence of tact by speaking like a late 19th century dandy. this appears to be something I am unable to turn off despite my many efforts
“this character is autistic coded so headcanoning them as aro/ace is wrong because you’re reinforcing the idea that autistic people are incapable of having romantic or sexual relationships” DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY ASPEC PEOPLE ARE ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM
seeing people my age talk about how scared they are of memory loss, which they only associate with old age, is so surreal to see as a 24 year old who has actively experienced memory loss for a long time now
there are causes for memory loss besides dementia and alzheimer’s, i hope y’all know that. dissociative disorders, trauma, brain injuries, thyroid problems, even just stress and lack of sleep can fuck up your ability to store, process, and access memory. and that’s just a few of the many causes i can think of off the top of my head right now.
please stop treating disabled people like some scary “other” that you might become only in the distant, decades-away future. we are your age, too. you may become one of us sooner than you know. stop acting like memory loss marks the end of a life, when so many of us have so much living left to do!
i feel like the “this too is yuri” meme is genuinely healing the tumblr fandom ecosystem. i’ve seen more posts about lesbian ships and wlw memes on this app in since i first saw the meme surface than i have in my entire history of using tumblr. peace and love on planet women
so apparently it’s “ADBLOCK” (and “adblock plus”) not “ublock origin” causing the cpu issues. you should 1000000% switch to “ublock origin” if you’re still using “adblock”
AdBlock hasn’t been relevant in ages, AdBlock Plus displays what it considers “acceptable” ads, and uBlock is maintained by a guy whose first action after taking over someone else’s project was putting up his own donation link.
You want uBlock Origin specifically, and no, multiple adblockers don’t help blocking more ads and only slow your computer down.
its actually very silly that if ur any type of art kid as a teenager everyone is like oh have u thought abt graphic design or advertising. yeah the little emo dude who fills sketchbooks with anime gore all day would be great at making customers buy product.
I want everyone to know that the guy who’s talking on the yugioh side of the Strategy panel has a deck so complicated it created the most infamous Excel spreadsheet in Yugioh history.
Universal basic income is essential if we want to build a bright future in the age of automation.
Seriously. The 40-hour work week was codified in 1940, before computers did anything. Per-hour productivity has more than quadrupled since then, but we’re working even harder, to live not all that much better. It’s absurd.
No, it’s not absurd, it’s deliberate. The ruling class wants us to work as hard as possible, so they have profits to skim and pile up.
I’ll reblog this every time I see it: Before the 40 hour work week, we had the 80 hour work week, the 100 hour work week. What got us 40 hours? Unions. Want a work week that reflects productivity levels? Unions. Want UBI? Unions.
Speaking as someone w a degree in ancient history I have a lot of Opinions about that 1 post about Elagabalus that’s going around but I don’t have the energy to get into it properly. I will however share this very pertinent section from the BBC article on the subject:
Dr Shushma Malik, a Cambridge university classics professor, told the BBC: “The historians we use to try and understand the life of Elagabalus are extremely hostile towards him, and therefore cannot be taken at face value. We don’t have any direct evidence from Elagabalus himself of his own words.
"There are many examples in Roman literature of times where effeminate language and words were used as a way of criticising or weakening a political figure.
"References to Elagabalus wearing makeup, wigs and removing body hair may have been written in order to undermine the unpopular emperor.”
Dr Malik added that whilst Romans were aware of gender fluidity, and there are examples of pronouns being changed in literature, it “was usually used in reference to myth and religion, rather than to describe living people”.
I’d also like to note that the Ancient sources about Elagabalus were, frequently, very racist (Elagabalus was from modern day Syria) and as a result I’m personally a bit suspect of any coverage that doesn’t mention the racial aspect.

if he was still alive I know in my heart that Terry Pratchett would have done a bit about Igors and Igorinas doing gender confirmation surgery by now. going into a lab full of bubbling vials and picking out a penis from a tank the way you pick a lobster. that one, please. you gotta be careful though because they’ll really try to upsell you into getting two or three installed. people going to the clinic as pairs and just having parts swapped out for a discounted rate. maybe you actually just trade brains, that’s even easier. Igorth have already been doing that thurgery for thenturieth.
how DARE you leave this in the tags (affectionate)
Everyone knew it was best not to look too closely at Igor’s jars.
Vimes was beginning to wish he had looked more closely at the most recent additions before Igor came lurching up the stairs to inform him:
“They have ethcaped, thir.”
“Escaped. What has escaped, Igor.”
“Thome of my.. appendageth, thir.”
“Appendages.”
“Yeth, thir. Of the… intimate variety.”
“Of the intimate…” Vimes trailed off as the dawning horror overwhelmed his vocal cords.
He rallied. “Igor. HOW have they escaped? They are not known for their… perambulatory abilities.”
“Really, thir? I’ve alwayth found them to have a mind of their own at timeth.”
Vimes was staying calm. Yes. That was it. He was staying very calm. Definitely NOT thinking AT ALL about how Vetinari and… Good lord, The Times, would react to marauding pack of penises. Would it be a pack? Or would they go off on their own?
“I wath exthperimenting with cuthtom grown oneth, you know. For thothe who cannot grow their own.”
“Err… what? Of course you were. I mean. Very good.”
Whenever Americans use Cryillic like. That. I just. Instantly shrivel up an cry
Like idk how to tell you this but н isnt h and и isnt n
It’s true and you should say it.
Я isnt R
Р isnt P
В isnt B
If you want to explain, what does it mean then? 0.0
н makes n sound,и makes ee sound, я makes ya sound, р makes r sound, в makes v sound
you mean, like, ня?
oh no. It can be made with Cyrillic now
ня
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE EXPLAINED
НЯ
НЯ
OH. GOD.
THATS SO FUNNY
Where’s that post about the guy who used ß (German Eszett, aka “double s”) as an “aesthetic B” in his username and ended up naming himself “SsillySsadass?”
not having a dni or “Xs don’t interact” in my bio is great. i do actually have a list of criteria that results in an immediate block upon me finding out i just like being the one bringing down the hammer
Something I think ppl who aren’t used to it struggle with when it comes to ancient history is that frequently ‘we do not and cannot know this’ is the only truthful response a historian can give. People severely overestimate how much we actually know about Ancient Rome.
I remember talking to someone at a party once about the debate over Septimius Severus’s ethnicity (whole other can of worms) and they asked if genetic testing of his remains was not a way to settle it and I was like oh. Oh okay you are under the impression we have the physical remains of Roman emperors from the second century AD alright then. (We. Do not.)
Can’t stress how much of high level study of Ancient History is devoted to trying to make sense of what actually factually happened. When I was at university (10+ years ago now) the discipline was embroiled in the lengthy and ongoing process of trying to unpack not just the biases in ancient sources but the centuries & centuries of biases within the field itself. I don’t imagine this process is ever going to Stop. It’s not uncommon for historical accounts to be so garbled & contradictory that it’s not possible to reconstruct the real events behind them.
Once in an introductory lecture one of my professors was talking about this problem and articulated it very simply as 'we know real things happened between real people, but we aren’t sure what they were’. Sums it up really!!
a reminder that your advocacy for ending the occupation of Palestine should also extend to advocating for Indigenous and First Nations peoples’ liberation in your own country. The anti-colonial struggle is a global one. Show up for Indigenous people everywhere you can because we are under occupation almost everywhere. Not to mention the Zionist occupation is supported almost exclusively by the colonial world powers. Your advocacy for the liberation for Palestine must go hand in hand with advocacy for First Nations liberation and Land Back.
Well, that don’t work in the scene I’m doing it’s too cute not to draw.
DAWWW SO CUTE :>

Wait elongated chairs y’all. Eight chair legs instead of one, they can lie down majestically and put their chins on the table like they were always meant to.

For those who don’t know, this piece is titled ‘Unfinished Painting’, by Keith Haring. He painted it about a year before his death of AIDs. I believe he actually finished other pieces between this one and his death. He left the majority of the canvas blank to represent his life and art career cut short due to HIV/AIDs. This was a deliberate choice and commentary about all that we lose (both personally and culturally) by ignoring the AIDs crisis at the time (1989). He was devastated he didn’t have time to make more art. 'Finishing’ Unfinished Painting is straight up spitting on Haring’s grave and shows no understanding to the meaning behind the art. The AI interpretation doesn’t even follow his extremely recognizable shape language and symbols. This is why people are angry about AI art. All commerce images and no meaning or humanity
The tweet is a joke. It’s making that exact point. It’s part of a series of tongue-in-cheek tweets using AI art to completely and totally misunderstand the point of the art in 'improving’ it, and this tweet has been taken out of that context and turned into rage bait. Nobody’s seriously suggesting that 'completing’ Unfinished Painting with AI is valuable. The tweet is railing against AI art. You’re agreeing with it. There’s nothing to get angry at here.
ironically the amount of anger at it proves it qualifies as transgressive art
