The level of destruction we’re seeing is beyond any words. Our homes, our landmarks, our schools, our universities, our restaurants, literally everything. Israel’s intent was to always remove Gaza from the map. They destroyed our city intentionally. They bombed our ancient landmarks to remove any proof of Palestinian history… I just can’t explain what I feel when I’m seeing all of my favourite places flattened. My whole city flattened. Everything I grew up with flattened.” — tweet via @/yaraeid, Dec 1 2023 /end ID]

His dedication to the bit and thus conquering of the watermelon whilst staying in character yet obviously struggling. The satisfying ending. This is performance art at its peak.
i say i like tragedies and everyone’s all like ‘why do you like sad stories? are you depressed?’ and never ‘how was the catharsis? was the catharsis fun?’
The UK Treasury promised to boost the competitiveness of the country’s financial sector post-Brexit. One year on, MPs say these “big promises” are undelivered.
The ‘Edinburgh Reforms’, introduced by UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt in late 2022, have so far failed to make the nation’s financial centre more attractive to global investors.
That’s according to a report released on Friday by the Treasury Select Committee.
In introducing the reforms, Hunt claimed he would maintain the UK’s high regulatory standards, but promised he would capitalise on pro-Brexit freedom, as it’s no longer the European Union who determines the UK’s banking rules.
[…]
“From what has been completed so far, the Sub-Committee is of the view that none of the achievements to date will make a substantial difference to the UK economy,” the committee’s members said.
Separately, City minister Bim Afolami argued that the government had delivered 22 of the 31 proposed Edinburgh Reforms, something that the committee contests.
“We do not consider reviews alone to be reforms,” states the report. “Many of the strands of work included in the Edinburgh Reforms are not reforms, but are more preparatory work for potential reforms in the future and should be treated as such.”
Well, those brexit freedoms do include the freedom to do nothing of any substance.
All of the pro-Brexit crowd who talked about this question at all before the referendum wanted to use the departure from the EU to eliminate some or all regulations on the financial sector, and even the Remain Tories were anti-regulation. How could anyone have expected things to have possibly turned out otherwise?
This is infinitely funnier when you realize the OP is a Hamilton fan who shipped Thomas Jefferson or w/e and responded that he doesn’t count as a real person because he’s dead.
THIS IS STILL SO FUNNY I WANNA THANK THE RANDOM PERSON THAT LURKED THROUGH MY BLOG TO REBLOG THIS ABSOLUTE GEM.
Why am I forbidden from leaving my island unless I give the boatman a passport saying I got permission. And why is the permission cost $100. Why won’t u just let me leave
To this day people will cry over the knowledge and works destroyed when the library of Alexandria was burned down.
And yet no tears are shed as Palestinian archives and libraries are bombed.
Saint Porphyrius Church, built in 1150 and the 3rd oldest church in the world has been bombed.
It’s not an accident.
Israel aren’t simply killing Palestinians, they are trying to erase that there ever were Palestinians in the first place.
Destroying their livelihoods, trying to to destroy their culture and history and pretend this land was never there’s.
It’s easy to deny someone’s existence when there’s no record of them.
Which is why it’s so important to look at the atrocities and bear witness to what’s happening.
But to also recognise that Palestine is more than it’s suffering.
There is a living breathing culture, of art, history, literacy which all come from the Palestinians.
Traditions they’ve carried for centuries.
So while we mourn the dead, we shall fight for the living. Fight for the preservation of their crafts, amplify their voices as they speak on their culture.
Palestinian history and culture is alive. And no matter how much the world wants to erase that, they cannot and will not.
Come On Man, You’re Making It Out To Be Worse Than It Really Is
A comic to mock my thinking process when I was around 13/14. I would make a small mistake or do something silly, and when I didn’t immediately get validation for it I would cry about it and then do things to make it worse.
adult life is crazy because you can be going through the most devastating and heartbreaking things while still having to go to work and do the laundry and grocery shopping
So a 17 year old Black teen, mentally disabled (Autism, ADHD, ODD, IED, MDD, PTSD and anxiety) and severely bullied by racists, is facing up to 30 years in prison for attacking a white teacher who stole his Nintendo (despite her being aware of EXTENSIVE rules in place telling her that doing so would cause a possibly violent meltdown)…
His name is Brendan Depa and his mom is on television literally begging the teacher not to press charges because they’re trying her son as an adult and he will most likely die in prison. His teacher is legit refusing claiming she’s “sparing anyone else her trauma”, the racist bitch. I can’t.
I want to also especially note that he’s being tried as an adult, despite being 17 at the time of attack, and they refused to acknowledge his disabilities during the charging, claiming they are not a defense. His mother had fought hard to not have him sent to a public school, but his behavioral group home didn’t give her a choice (which I already question how he was treated there). To the surprise of no one, the system has failed this boy, and instead of rightfully directing her anger towards that system, the teacher is placing it on him. Even if only the minimum sentence is given, he will still spend roughly 3 years in prison. That alone may be a death sentence for him. He needs proper support and treatment, not a prison sentence.
if your response to seeing posts of Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah today is to spam those posts harassing them and calling that harassment “advocating for Palestine,” you’re antisemitic. spitting on our holidays and faith and culture and traditions and history while hiding behind a shield of “i’m just anti-zionist” is vile.
or, since antisemitism on its own apparently isn’t a problem for some of you, maybe this will work: harassing random Jews in the name of Palestine is actively harming Palestinians by giving the Israeli government genuine antisemitism they can use to try and justify their actions.
💬Greek ➗mathematician➕ HIPPARCHUS 🦛 created trigonometry🔼 in 140 BC by writing 12 books 📚 worth of TABLES OF CORDS 🧮 starting with the CORD OF A CIRCLE ⭕️ (a cord bisected by the angle x=2sin(x/2)).
Unfortunately😞he has been dead 💀 for over ⬆️ 50 years but don’t ❌ lose hope☺️. With new advancements🧑🔬in the NECROMANCY FIELD 🧪 you🫵 may be able to REKILL🧟 the founder of trigonometry!!!!
Here’s the link in bio they reference at the bottom of the post. I haven’t downloaded the app yet so I can’t say anything about the quality of it.
There are a lot of comments on this post about how this infographic introduces the idea that corporations are responsible for the vast majority of carbon emissions and ends it with a “here’s how you can help!” type message. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to point out this inconsistency, they probably could have designed this graphic better, but I would like to elaborate a bit on why there’s still work to do as an average person.
When we talk about initiatives like composting, buying locally, etc, there is often a lot of focus on reducing carbon emissions because this is a marketable and politically attractive pitch. The reality is that of course your backyard compost pile is not going to counteract BP dumping oil into the world’s oceans. What is ACTUALLY does, is start to set up an alternative to the way we live now.
Compost can divert a lot of waste from landfills, and organic waste in particular is pretty bad when just left to rot, but it also gets people engaged with ideas about soil health, and could potentially pave the way for greater infrastructure for composting (which imo should have the same setup, or better, than municipal garbage).
Similarly, buying locally or from small businesses won’t hurt Amazon. But it does set up a localized economy, which can then be expanded to offer more, which in the long run can divest your community from larger corporations like Amazon or even larger industries like Big Ag.
Individual actions will not save the world. True! But individuals can build communities, which can change how our world works. This is worth your time and energy.
Of course, larger structural issues will need to be addressed, for one thing if say, the oil industry collapses, the United States government will likely bail it out before they will switch to public transportation. Similarly, many people have no choice at the moment but to utilize gas and oil because they have no suitable alternative.
ordered pizza from a small local place and they didnt actually cut it so i’ve chosen to revert to a wild animal and begin ripping it apart instead of just using a knife to portion slices
absolutely visceral experience. food is so much more satisfying when you have to fight it. i may be feral
i am not proud to say this but that pizza lasted fifteen minutes. i normally am not that gluttonous, but this goes beyond glutton. there was gluttony and wrath. a whirlwind of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, all atop a flatbread that was shred apart by my own hands due to the neglect of another
in that moment i was wild. i was free. i understood the simplest joys in life. the joy of eating and manifesting my own destiny
been reflecting on this all day and the unsliced pizza experience honestly ruled. i think everyone should try it sometime or another. you have not truly lived until you just absolutely obliterated a pizza in such a feral manner
is this you
yes
run
My best friend and I have this tradition we call “chicken dinner” where we get a rotisserie chicken, lay it on a tarp, start on opposite ends of the tarp, and on the count of three we both run at the chicken and start ripping into it with our bear hands. We will be on our knees fighting for the best pieces of meat, ripping into the chicken with our faces, and it is the most viscerally delicious chicken I have ever had in my life. Grease gets everywhere. We have to do this outside. We have to tie our hair in buns beforehand.
You have never known the joy of food until you are lunging at your friend to rip the best part of the chicken out of their hand, rolling around on the tarp, stuffing it in your face before they can retaliate, and you realize “holy shit did I just growl?” And then you realize they are doing it too.
The chicken gets decimated. It’s absolutely destroyed. We aren’t allowed back inside until we have been hosed down. It’s the best.
One thing that’s vitally important to remember is that feeling “weirded out” is not a form of harm. It is a completely normal part of socializing. It is the feeling of encountering something unfamiliar. In order to be a kind person, you must learn to how to distinguish between “harmful” and “weird.” And then you must accept the weird.
