I was writing up a post to help encourage folks who’ve always wanted to start a webcomic to dive in- and that they shouldnt have to fear ‘being perfect’ to start one And as I was going along, it made me sad to realise that.. there is an expectation now in the webcomic sphere, as much as I want to deny it (and that it should NOT stop folks from creating!!! please keep creating, no matter your level)
I’m bummed out about the changes in the webcomic sphere over the past 5 years, i’m disappointed that there has been changes to this medium that was KNOWN for all of the different skill levels and flavours of so many different creators. I want to combat that.
I want to see more beginner art, I want to see that excitment and embracing of growth. I want to see what made webcomics so accessible to so many creators and readers flourish again.
Hopefully, if you see this post, and you’ve always wanted to make a webcomic but felt you weren’t ‘good enough’ : Make one anyways. Have fun even if you don’t know all the ‘ins and outs’ of comics. Make one because you’re obsessed with your characters and you wanna share them with the world. Make one just because you can, and not because it has to fit in some impossible standard we’ve forced onto ourselves because of the changing landscape.
Start one, and have fun doing it for YOU!
The whole reason i started making comics is because of that difference in skill level among creators. It made comics seem accessible and understandable. Its what made the whole scene feel so special and hope that never goes away.

There’s a few people in the notes complaining that allo- is a stupid prefix because it means other. They think that the categories should just be “asexual” and “sexual.”
But, like, that’s what we did. When I was first realizing my sexuality and hanging out on thr AVEN forums a decade ago, that’s what the categories were.
And you know what? It didn’t work. Virgin and celibate allos didn’t appreciate being called a sexual being. Even those who have sex often don’t like just being called “sexual.”
So we needed an alternative. One of the earliest definitions of asexual is “self-contained sexuality.” It’s been put aside in favor of the current definition of lacking sexual attraction, but it still resonates with a lot of people. And especially did back when we were trying to figure out a better term for “not asexual.”
So allosexual was proposed. It was chosen because allosexual means that you are sexually attracted to other people. To people not yourself.
So yes, the etymology does make sense. You just didn’t bother to look into it.
(I hope the people complaining are doing so in good faith, but I’m not willing to test that by replying to anyone directly. Now the information is out there if anyone wants to bother to look.)

The internet is becoming SO user hostile that I may just give up on it. I’ve lived here for 20+ years, but honestly, returning to the days of yore when I read paper books and only talked about them to the people I saw face to face is starting to look infinitely preferable to what has happened to the formerly lawless and openly globalized information super highway.
i think a big part of why adventure time spin-offs aren’t as grating as most spin-offs, and why people enjoyed distant lands and fionna and cake, is because adventure time as a series was never afraid to depart from the main cast for a moment and explore the world through the eyes of a background character, and the spin offs can follow that example and run with it.
3 out of 4 episodes of distant lands introduce a new supporting cast and a new leading deuteragonist (Y5, Glassboy, Cadebra)(together again is an outlier because it ties into the emotional themes of that episode). Marceline and Princess Bubblegum have a history, whats up with that? maybe Glassboy can tell us! Oh, by the way, meet Glassboy! :D
it gives weight to the very well established idea that Ooo is a populated place with a history and full of people with stories to tell. Which is neat, and the worldbuilding of Ooo is a great jumping off point for artists to tell their own stories, expanding the world even more
honestly a big indicator of a good game for me is the ability to just chill in it. if you can enjoy yourself just stopping to take in the scenery and listen to the music and ambience, or hanging out on the title screen, or ignoring the main gameplay to go off and screw around picking flowers, or even just mousing over all the menu options for the tactile feedback, chances are it’s a good fucking game
whenever i click the cc button on a youtube video that clearly has a high budget and is made by a fucking studio and i see “english - auto generated” i spit daggers from my eyes and mouth at whoever decided to not pay someone to make actual captions

everyone should read the manga this is based on! the protagonist is a 40 year old Shiro, a gay lawyer who is somewhat neurotic and is not used to society being increasingly accepting of gay people since he’s been in the closet for so long. Introverted Shiro is held in contrast to his boyfriend Kenji, who is out and proud and a social butterfly. The story is a slow paced character study on aging gay couples and how being queer is perceived by society. We get the perspectives of the gay couple, their families, their friends and their co-workers.
btw this line in the manga was “is being gay a joke to you??”
I ran an Aliens rpg years back. But the players didn’t KNOW it was an Aliens game until halfway through the first session.
