The lack of skvaders is particularly frustrating when you realize it forms the third point of a wonderful cryptid trifecta.
You got the jackalopes, which are rabbits with antlers.
And you got the wolpertingers, which are rabbits with antlers and wings.
And then… what? Do you escalate? That’s unbalanced, those two rabbit cryptids don’t have the same number of extra things, the wolpertinger is clearly the jackalope But More.
BUT with the skvader on the other side, balance is restored. Antler rabbit, winged rabbit, winged antler rabbit. It’s a classic Venn diagram of imaginary lapine beasts, and it’s only complete if you acknowledge the fucking skvader.

i do not care if someone learned compassion from a cartoon or a comic or an anime im just glad they’re here with us now a better person fighting the good fight. should it have taken something so trivial? maybe not- but it’s in the past! and this is the now! and if they’re objectively better for it who cares

Surely that is a major part of why we want more representation in mainstream media in the first place. It’s very weird to campaign for good portrayals and then get mad when they work.
i know my experiences are not even a little bit universal, even among other arabs, but just in case it changes someone’s perspective a little bit: i grew up a queer kid in saudi arabia, and i was not by any means the only one.
when the wrong person finding out you’re gay could be a literal death sentence sanctioned by the state, you kinda have to be Very Careful navigating the world. and the number one most reliable way to get a sense of “How Safe Am I Here?” was shipping. most of the people i came out to, i was able to come out to because we happened to like a similar show, and one or the other of us said that we ship some gay pairing. some of those people i quickly learned were also queer. some of them weren’t. but all of them were equally a safe space for me when literally the entire country including the government Wanted Us Dead. for all of us, queer shipping was literally the only exposure we had to the queer community and queerness as a concept. it was a huge protective force against the messaging of literally every other part of our culture, including the laws we lived under, which told us Gay People Must Die.
i literally could not care less what led to them being accepting of queer people. they saved my life and that’s not any less meaningful if yuri on ice was a contributing factor.
Art is well known for increasing compassion in people for the “other”. When white people watch a show or play a game with a Black main character, their acceptance for Black people in real life goes up, because your brain doesn’t really know the difference between being friends with a real person and feeling empathy for a fictional character.
(this is part of why we critique bigotry in mainstream media meant for mass consumption and demand inclusiveness and representation in that media! it truly does have the ability to influence culture on a large scale!)

saw a tiktok of a mother taking her very tiny daughter to an art museum and she’s just walking around going “whoooa” “woooaah” to everything but then they got to a marble statue of a nude woman lying on her back and the girl points and goes “mommy🫵” and i just immediately welled up with tears and all the comments are just laughing about it and of course it’s funny but how are you not insanely moved by the way art connects everyone on earth from a centuries-old sculptor to a toddler in 2023

i know folks just kind of SAY things online and especially with young buckaroos there are just ‘lines’ that get tossed around endlessly online (not the hero we need etc. etc.) but i would just like to take a moment and mention something about this particular 'line’
i will give benefit of the doubt to buckaroo who posted this i am sure you did not think much and probably meant well with a little throwaway comment but please understand something about this
AUTISTIC BUCKAROOS have been compared to robots and machines our whole lives. we are constantly dehumanized in this way. so while it might not seem like much of a comment i would just say this for neurodivergent community it often feels like a deeply unkind way. it will likely only get worse as time goes on.
anyway buds who do this it is honest mistake i know you are not trying to hurt anyone just something to think on in the future. maybe just take moment to consider the history of dehumanizing autistic buckaroos and calling them robots

I know multiple autistic people who have not gotten paid for freelance writing assignments they did because the people they were turning those assignments in to decided their writing sounded AI generated. It wasn’t. It just wasn’t written by a neurotypical human.
the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i went nonverbal, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy… until. he tried to ask me “you okay?” but the way he chose to do that was by sending “👉🏼👌🏼❓” and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
