Your compliance and silence as well as the compliance and silence of your ancestors is what allowed these schools to open and kill first nations children. The children of MY people.
Dont follow me if you cant reblog this post or the one with sources to your political blog or your most popular blog. Add trigger warnings if you must but if your political blog is only focused on the harms you personally face like being lgbt then you need to see some bigger pictures and stop being afraid of angering your racist mutural or actually saying some shit about racism. If you can reblog some antifa graphics or add blm to your bio to be a surface level ally, you can reblog some sources on the genocide first nations people faced and still face today.
They were CHILDREN.
They were murdered in cold blood.
I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.
Here’s another photo of the legislative assembly from yesterday. Later on there were more items, candles and signs at the memorial, as well as a big poster with 1505 painted on it but I didn’t get a picture
People need to see this. Not just quickly glance at the photos and keep on scrolling. They need to see this.
Reblog this or just stop following me
I had seen the first picture of the church, but not the second.
I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.
This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.
They were all children, injured, abused, and killed in my country’s attempt to erase them. I want the world to see this and hold the state accountable to *active* reconciliation> I mean we could at least truly adopt UNDRIP in action instead of words for god’s sake.
Everytime I see people write MCYT I think its someone misspelling MCR. I have no reason to think this, it's not even the same number of letters??? and yet seeing your post about people hating mcyt made me wonder what My Chemical Yomance T did to earn people's ire.
i was in the grocery store and saw an onion on the ground and picked it up, absently saying “poor little guy.” behind me a teenage girl started laughing and then stopped and went “aww. i’m sorry for laughing. that’s nice actually.” and the cycle of cruelty is broken for another generation as a young person realizes that it is not embarrassing to have empathy for another thing that was once living, because certainly to be a lone white onion rolling on the ground in a supermarket would be terrifying to anyone
The funky guy pictured here is actually a goosefish! He shows up on the google image search for tasseled wobbegongs because someone misidentified him once in a popular post and it stuck.
so I figured my pronoun pin needed an update… I didn’t wanna get a new one bc I like this one 🥺 so I improvised. i was afraid I’d regret messing it up but I like it better fucked up a little bit. it gives it character. tells a story you know?
If you live in the USA and you’re pleading for donations to pay your rent, bills, or get food then dial 211! Please dial 211 before the last minute!
It’s a toll free service with people who will help you find programs in your community to pay those bills, find food, and find housing! They will give you numbers to call so you can get help.
It is not 100% foolproof. Their job is to direct you to a program they believe will help your current issue, but it’s still a step up from praying random strangers online will give you enough cash before a deadline! The added benefit of these community programs, which get funded by the local government most of the time, is if there are more people using them then they can get more money to help more people.
You’re not taking resources from other people if you use your community services. Your taxes pay for them. Use them.
Dial 211 first to see if they can help, and if for some reason they can’t, then make your donation posts!
Hi I work for my state’s 211 service. It really breaks my heart how many people only know to call us at the last minute. 211’s can provide a whole wealth of resources to use before things ever get to a cut off utility, eviction, or homelessness!
I can’t speak for all 211’s but most should also have a website detailing all the agencies in their database. if you don’t like phone calls, this can be something to reference instead.
If you don’t have health insurance but you need to see a doctor, reference 211! We list clinics that provide free or discounted general care, vision, and dental services to low income households and people without insurance! Many hospitals also have financial aid policies that can severely reduce your bill if you had an expensive procedure!
If you’re stuck in a dead end job or need educational resources reference 211! There are a lot of programs focused on providing basic adult education as well as trade skills or other high demand fields! State governments are generally more interested in funneling people into work than providing benefits, but you can still use this to your advantage especially if you have some form of disability but are still able to work. That includes if you’re neurodiverse or have mental health issues! Most of these programs are extremely underutilized.
If you believe you qualify for public benefits but the bureaucracy of the process is in your way, reference 211! There are agencies specifically geared towards helping people obtain the benefits they qualify for- for free!
If you need help with your taxes-
If you need help finding a pro bono lawyer-
If you need help finding affordable housing/section 8 housing-
If you need help finding food pantries-
If you need help paying for your prescriptions-
If you need help obtaining disability aids or assistive technology-
If you need help finding transportation options-
If you need help following a natural or personal disaster (like a home fire)-
If you need help repairing a home you or your family owns or it needs modifications to be accessible-
If you need Queer resources-
Reference your 211!!!!!
I had no idea what 211 was before working for it but I wish I had. I’ve learned so much about what resources are actually available to the community even in a ho hum area of the country like my state. I’ve saved my partner literally thousands of dollars just from the medical resources I’ve gathered.
Not enough young people know about or utilize these services but they are there for you!
P. S.
This isn’t an intended use of 211, but I like to reference the agency listings when I look for jobs. Many of the agencies listed are non-profits which, while they certainly are not perfect, generally have lower barriers of entry to decent paying jobs with benefits. The work environments tend to be much kinder and at least pretend to be forward thinking. You’re more likely to find jobs without as many people applying as well, especially if they’re only advertising their positions through their own website.
Hi this post is going around a lot, i took this straight from the Critters for Sale steam page because i was talking about it and how much i love it. check it out, its so fucking good. all of the art is outstanding.
please please please play this game if you can. its fucking GOOD.
One of the most life-changing things I ever learned came from Mythbusters, where they tested and proved (with cognitive testing puzzles and reaction time tests) that lying down and resting with the intention to sleep STILL provided significant mental benefits over just staying awake, even if a person couldn’t fall asleep in the amount of time they had.
It helps me to actually sleep to know that just lying down with my eyes closed is still doing me some good, and helps me to not freak out/beat myself up when I stay up later than intended. Any amount of rest is better than no rest!
So if you didn’t know that…now you do
do you know that i think of this post every time i can’t sleep op. what mythbusters did for you, you have done for a great many others.
One instructor in nursing school, fifty years ago: “If you can’t sleep, rest. If you can’t rest, at least lie down and pretend.”
Most important: Spend the money you have on a motel. Churches probably will not actually help and shelters can be dangerous or turn you away. At a motel you have free breakfast, access to running water, and a lockable place to sleep. Do not waste money on a gym membership like the popular version of this post says to do, YMCA memberships are like $40.
2. Contact family and friends. Now is not the time to worry about being a burden. Your survival and safety comes first and that is all that matters, anyone worth having in your life will agree.
3. Start a gofundme. Even if someone can’t offer you a place to stay, they might be willing to toss out $5 so you can eat today.
4. Libraries have free wifi. Apply to any and all jobs you can think of if you aren’t already working.
5. Any home is a good home. Even if it’s a dingy apartment in a bad neighborhood. If its cheap and you can afford it, snatch it up.
6. Pancake mix and peanut butter are filling, cheap, and last a long time.
Movies where the lead actor did their own stunts are always either “the director forced them to stand in freezing water for fourteen hours a day while periodically throwing rocks at their head for the sake of ‘authenticity’ and they got PTSD and almost died” or “they insisted over the explicit objections of the production’s insurance company that they be set on fire for real because it would 'help [them] understand the character’s motivation’” – there’s absolutely no middle ground.
Though sometimes an actor goes from one to the other in the course of their career. Jackie Chan was firmly in the former camp when he started, then became the latter by the time of the Rush Hour movies.
But even then, no middle ground.
Jackie Chan’s a complicated case because he was directing some of this own films as early as 1980, putting him in the position of simultaneously being the unhinged director torturing his lead actor and the lead actor being tortured.
Union-mandated meeting between director (yourself) and actor (also yourself) about the film’s safety protocols
AJSJJDKSJD THE QUILTING SHOW MY GMA WANTS TO GO TO HAS A “FREE TICKET FOR UNDER 30s” IM!!!!! that’s SO funny ?? They wanna encourage young ppl SO much to get into quilting
what i imagine the quilting convention back room looks like
“Liminal” means “boundary” as in “the veil is thin here”
Liminal spaces are places that feel dreamlike, fuzzy on reality. Their boundaries are unstable. A bus station at night. A long desert highway. A bridge over a river.
They do, however, have an opposite; the Proximal space. These are places that feel far too real, extremely defined, boundaries that seem to override natural forces like time or space. Large warehouses without windows, identical chain stores at disorienting hours, your home after a nap of indeterminate time.
The traditional liminal space is the crossroads. Liminal spaces are places you travel through, but never stay. Motels in the middle of nowhere. Airports. Places like that.
The traditional proximal space is the monument. Anywhere that exists but isn’t really “used” for anything. Their presence resists use, closer to landscape than location.
the reason i like reblog bait posts here is that in other places it’s always something like “REPOST or this SCARY DEMON will SHOW UP in your room at 3 AM!!!” or “SHARE this to 10 PEOPLE or you will have BAD LUCK for 7 YEARS!!!!”
and here its like “reblog to punt prev into the fucking sun” or whatever
reblog to punt prev into the fucking sun
Oh welp. Here I go
WHEEEEEEE
Also all of the positive posts. Reblog to give a good grade at being a mutual, reblog to tell them you are proud.
great addition prev is still in the fucking sun tho
On my old server, there was a character named ßillyßadass.
This never failed to make me laugh, because that letter is not pronounced like B. It is a sharp S.
That guy named himself SsillySsadass.
Also to people who you Σ as an aesthetic E

This is pronounced Stargoat.
Reblogging for Stargoat.
STARGOAT
I saw in Japan a bag of marshmallows named SCANDINAVIAN MÅRSHMÅLLOW and I still have not recovered from that. It reads as SCANDINAVIAN MORSHMOLLOW
I always read STARGÅTE as ‘stargåde’ with a Swedish pronunciation.
Star Riddle.
This one about broke my brain:
There is so much going on here that we need to properly break it down:
Η (eta): Long “e” sound like in “free” Ψ (psi): “ps” sound like in “psychology” or the noise you make to call your cat Ρ (rho): equivalent of English “R” Λ (lambda): equivalent of English “L” Τ (tau): equivalent of English “T,” one of two letters properly employed here Φ (phi): equivalent of English “F” Σ (sigma): as noted above, equivalent of English “S” Μ (mu): equivalent of English “M,” other properly employed letter That “presecription” Rx combo: Does not occur in Greek or any other alphabet, what the Hell is it doing here Θ (theta): soft “th” like in “thing” Γ (gamma): Kind of an asperated “gh” sound like you start to make a hard “g” but stop halfway through Δ (delta): hard “th” like in “there.” Χ (chi): asperated “kh” like in “challah” Π (pi): Equivalent of English “p”
The other letters do not occur in the Greek alphabet, although you will see English letters used for things like names and titles.
So when we put it all togheter, this miracle of title design reads something like:
i sometimes make posts on this website. if you like posts on this website you should follow me. just the logical progression you feel me? seems really obvious. so go ahwad & do it
are you begging for follows??? lmao
I posted this without tags. Meaning only my followers could see it. You fucking loaf of wet bread. You fucking doornail
Sending you to the shadow plague dimension
but if we all reblog this, now you’re getting exposed to new eyes! follow-begging scum that you are.
Then don’t fuckin reblog it. This is your fault not mine
To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit
This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.
orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!
ftr I am forever going to be bitter that the post I wanted to be “let’s talk about extinct ecosystems and how cool they are!” got derailed into yet another post just talking about a single taxon like the millions of other posts on palaeoblr
Please tell me more about these extinct ecosystems. Why did they go extinct? Could an ecosystem like that return?
When I say “extinct ecosystem”, I mean those ecosystems that have existed in the past, with extinct animals and plants etc. inhabiting them
by their very definition, they are gone forever
there are ones that were truly unique, like Polar Tropical Forests and Fern Prairies, that we just could not have today
but there were ones that have equivalents to today, as well, like the first savannahs and steppes of the Miocene - they just have earlier versions of the plants and animals
there were so many because there are so many today, and each one had its own flora and fauna and was glorious
There’s the wetlands and forests of Hell Creek in the Latest Cretaceous
the bizarre Volcanic Lake Forests of the Jehol Biota
whatever the hell the Ediacaran Reefs were
the Scale Tree Swamp Forests of the Carboniferous
“Mesozoic 2” aka pre-human Aotearoa
the Western Interior Seaway dominated by Mosasaurs
and so many other things, I couldn’t possibly list them all. Every time period had its own biosphere and biomes, and they were all unique.
ie, the ecosystems present during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum
we have fossils of plants that showcase how different tropical plant lifestyles had to be up at the poles because of the light weirdness
the important part is “tropical”, not “wet/rainforest”. those are two different things
Temperate and Boreal Rainforests are wonderful and some of my favorite living biomes, but they aren’t what I was talking about
May I ask about the fern prairies? That sounds really cool!
Grass is a relatively recent thing
it first evolved in the latest Cretaceous, but it didn’t actually take over everywhere until the Miocene, when grasses that process light differently (look up C3 vs C4 photosynthesis) evolved and just took the fuck over the planet
before then, other plants formed the low ground cover over the earth, and in many places those plants were ferns - spread all over the ground and covering it, much like grass, but significantly less dense. Dirt would have been much more common everywhere.
This is why I am begging every single game developer to remember that grass is not a neutral ground cover
My favorite extinct ecosystem, if it counts while being as physically tiny as it was, is the floating logs that existed in the ocean between the first appearance of woody trees and the first appearance of organisms that could break down wood - floating reefs of a sort, trailing enormous filter-feeding crinoids below them. The baleen whales of their time
yeah that counts! And how bizarre those must have been!!!
